Just a quick note that I am still very much here and working on things !  Stuff’s just off-dashboard for a while ‘till I make some progress to set up a queue. 

I also got very little time off work this month and still have to prepare some things for my trip to Las Vegas at the start of April, so I’m slow ( as per usual ) but not dead !

ok big SPOILERS ahead for my general go - to interpretation of post - movie on both my blogs.

toothless and the light fury do leave for the hidden world, but they frequently visit new berk.  i agree with the lesson that there comes a point where even best friends must live their own lives, something I’ve come to experience about a year ago, but i disagree with the notion that it must be final / feature such a large gap of time. 

toothless absolutely visits hiccup !  of course, he will be spending a lot of time in the Hidden World to begin with ; everything is new and exciting, and especially if accepting the romantic relationship between the furies ( which i only do with specific writers / my own interpretation. ) But there will be days, if not weeks, where toothless spends time with his best friend and family in new berk. 

the light fury is hesitant, and the first few times leaves toothless to travel alone. but gradually, she begins following him, always sticking close to either fellow fury or other dragons, never caught too close to a human. for her, this is where character development begins to bloom. this wild, untamed creature explores a world she has never known ; much like toothless does the same. 

these two introduce one another to the worlds they have known their entire lives, growing and learning side by side.

that scene in httyd2 where hiccup pulls toothless out of the alpha’s control?? I will never not weep like a little baby watching that.

toothless has not, and never will, forgive himself for stoick’s death. he loved that man just as much as he loves any of his friends. he was proud of that chieftain, of the change of heart and his kindness. for toothless, it was his own weakness / he didn’t fight hard enough against the alpha.  

not to mention that, based on his behaviour shortly after, he wasn’t even aware of his own actions at the time and only somewhat gathered the information through hiccup’s actions. this dragon has absolutely spent copious amounts of time sitting at that shore where they sent stoick off.

              o’  lightning — borne  creature,  name  hailed  with  primal  fear.   your  fury  awoken,    there  was  only  instinct  when  talons  had  choked  prey  and  scales  splintered  beneath  force  of  a  crushing  maw,  waste  laid  to  kin  of  another  breed.   when  snapping  jaws  and  lashing  tails  threatened  other  half  /  soul  beloved.   monsters  with  furnaces  churning  in  their  bellies.   they  are  nothing,  and  they  will  return  to  nothingness.

            what  sight,  then.   for  architect  of  heaven’s  wrath  to  be  sat  beside  mere  human  with  nay  bellow.   a  beast  in  all  rights,  even  when  bestowed  aquatic  feast  does  smoke  rise  from  flared  nostrils  and  is  anger  felt  with  every  heavy  chomp  into  delectable  meat.   claws  flexed  /  gaze  without  rest,  territory  declared  his  own  he  watches,  ever  prepared  to  defend  what  is  his.   tension  pervades  an  air  crisp  with  lingering  electricity  /  wounded  animal  does  not  lower  its  guard,  surging  with  unspent  energy.

              o’  chief — made  boy,  how  fortunate  are  thee.   lie  your  hand  ‘pon  mark  of  battle  etched  into  a  darkness  running  cold  despite  thunderstorm  raging  beneath.   form  rises  /  air  fills  large  lungs  only  to  be  expelled  in  aggravated  huffs  whenever  hungry  belly  permits.   with  grumble  and  hiss  come  complaints,  but  ne’er  regret.   haze  of  temper  clouds  his  mind  and  ears  refuse  to  listen,  yet  still  comes  a  tail  made  whole  and  wraps  around  he:  best  friend,  for  whom  skies  had  shook  with  thunder  and  lightning  struck.

 httyd3 spoilers below ( stuff from the description / trailer ) & a lot of salt. 

aside the fact that I just really don’t like romance in movies bcs it never has enough time to be properly developed / some character is 90% of the time just There For The Protagonist To Romance(TM) 

it feels so uncharacteristic for toothless???  sure, it’s exciting and new, and By Odin, there at least something close to a Night Fury beside him, and there’s a solidarity. but throwing away that relationship with Hiccup for that???  Absolutely Not. Never In This House. 

I’m sure they were trying to go with the lesson of how friendships can end, and how you gotta Grow Up, but it’s just.  Not A Plausible Thing in this scenario. Hiccup and Toothless, while there is much to be explored in terms of being dangerously dependent, would always return to one another, and never say a final goodbye ; not this early in their lives. 

The Light Fury in itself is a great character !!  I love her !!! but it’s just. the biggest vibe that she’s just there for the sake of dragon romance. Hell, they didn’t even give her a name because “she is meant to stay wild” ????  that just alienates her further ; it alienates the reason why toothless leaves, which is a big part of what peeves me about the whole thing.

from what i’ve seen in the trailers + spoilers, we don’t really get to know her.  we don’t get to know what toothless sees in her / this discovery to leave behind hiccup - and all the other friends !!!  ofcs they’re the main characters of the story, but toothless has made so many friends along the way. 

SHAKES MY SALT !!! i truly hope  the movie actually proves me wrong, but I just??? don’t have much hope.  I AM JUST. SO UPSET !!! i’m going into this with such negative expectations and i hate it. but toothless is My Son and I will Fight For This. 

also, ENDING SPOILERS ahead 

the nightlights??? they’re perfectly adorable by design, but their colors look so fake and unrealistic to me. like, the white paws & spines are ok. but then the one with the very suddenly black fin ?? the white underbelly?? it just. doesn’t transition as nicely. they could have given them some gorgeous dabble effect, or transition it better with the scales.

and that 10 year timeskip sounds iffy to me as well.

Toothless in Coco being an alebrije / spirit guide?? fully obsidian by default but able to don a look reminiscent of the httyd3 design??  absolutely.  very faint lightning traveling over his form on occasion.  some people knowing him as the mischievous creature he is, while others have only seen him as a foreboding shadow in the skies.  there’s also talk of these being two entirely different beings.  myth about the boy !!  stories !!  a tale of lightning and death !! varying reputation !!

One way to gauge how much respect / adoration Toothless has for you is by whether or not he looks to you for guidance and input. Be it in a scenario of danger or mundane interaction, Toothless is a very headstrong dragon. If he wants to do something, he usually will. 

In this scene, despite his clear fury, he looks not only to Hiccup to determine their approach, but also Astrid. During the bonding time with Valka, when it is time for the dragons to feast, Toothless is practically enamoured by all the fish, but he still looks to Hiccup on his back for the go-ahead.

It is not that Toothless does not value the input of other people ; but there are only a few he trusts so much that he takes their leadership over his own decisions without question.  Only a handful he respect enough to be considerate in moments that come natural to his being as a dragon.

To us, it might seem like simple human decency to ask someone if they would share their food, but Toothless? He is a powerful dragon that grew up with the lesson that every meal could be his last. Though he knew the concept of sharing, he never applied it until Hiccup came along because there never was another who had shown the same courtesy.  If he wanted something, he just took it.
