eleven little self care tips for students
Get enough sleep. Your brain needs it. Set yourself a ‘bed time’ and fall into the routine of going to bed and waking up at the same times each day.
Drink water and lots of it. Aim for 2 litres a day. This one’s easy, you can do it. Ditch the juices and carbonated beverages, just add a slice of lemon to your water if you feel like something fancy.
Allow yourself to switch off. Don’t be afraid to read books that have nothing to do with your studies. Go to the cinema. Work out. Take your mind away from your workload.
Take care of your skin. Wash your face every morning and night. Moisturise after every shower and bath. Don’t go to bed with your make-up on, no matter how tired you are.
Talk to your friends and family about something other than school. Don’t let your studies detach you from the things going on around you.
Work out. Even just once a week, or whenever you can. Go for a walk or a run, maybe just for 15 minutes. Follow along with a YouTube exercise video from the comfort of your own home or try out some yoga moves.
Make time for your hobbies. Studying is your full time job, but there’s plenty of hours left in the day. Don’t neglect the things you love.
Cook. Sometimes all we have time for is microwave noodles, but don’t fall into the habit of relying on the basics. You’ll feel the difference.
Don’t forget to laugh. Watch a hilarious film. See a comedian at a local venue. Watch funny videos on YouTube. Reminisce with friends. It’ll do you good.
Ditch the caffeine. Don’t rely on Starbucks. It’s delicious but you don’t need it. Save up all the money you’d usually spend on coffee and treat yourself to something instead.
Make your bed every morning. You’ll be grateful at the end of a long day when you can get into a cosy bed that doesn’t look like you just rolled out of it.

types of study breaks for every situation
if you realize you’ve been studying for hours: grab a snack to refuel your body and watch a sitcom to refuel your brain. then back to the books.
if you’re feeling stressed out: take some deep breaths, text your friends, maybe stare at a wall for a few minutes. gather yourself.
if you can’t seem to focus: get moving and get outside. take out the garbage, check your mail box, maybe walk your dog. just get moving and get fresh air. it’ll help bring you back.
if there’s something else going on in your life and you can’t get it off your mind: write down what’s going through your head, sort of like a diary entry. it’ll help you work things out.
if you’re just mentally and physically exhausted: set a timer for 25-30 minutes and take a nap. any longer and you’ll hit REM and you’ll wake up feeling just as tired. once you wake up, get some caffeine in you.
if the material is boring as hell: find another way to study. see if there’s a crash course video online about it or draw out what you’re trying to learn in diagrams and pictures to make it fun.
if people around you won’t shut up: listen to some music. soundtrack and classical music is always good because they won’t absorb you as much as music with lyrics. white noise (like ocean waves, rain sounds, etc.) also works.
if you only half understand a concept: call/message a friend who’s not in the class and try to teach the material to them. this will help you mentally work through the material and will help you remember it as well.

How to get motivated? 5 tips!
Have role models. According to me, role models are one of the most helpful things I’ve ever found to get motivated. The most common ones are Hermione Granger, Rory Gilmore, Cristina Yang and Elle Woods. Choose whatever celebrity or character that inspires you and think of it whenever you’re feeling unmotivated. I personally like to reread the first three Harry Potter or rewatch Legally Blonde when I’m feeling low. By reminding yourself of your roles models, you might want to study or work even harder just to be like them
Make a goals list. When you’re experiencing hard times at school or wherever, goals and dreams (aren’t they the same thing?) are the one thing that keeps you from falling apart. Nobody said it was easy but if you don’t work hard to achieve your goals, no one will for you. You’re the master of your destiny. Embrace it. You have the power and the abilities to reach your goals. So write a goals list and put it on your desk or where you can look at it whenever.
Read motivational quotes. I do have a “Positive Jar” I made a while ago and it’s highly helpful. On some pieces of paper, I put many useful things including motivational quotes. So whenever I’m feeling unmotivated, I just open the jar and read two or three quotes. You need to be positive (and it can be quite hard, I know that) but by reading inspiring messages, you’ll feel better, trust me.
Have a healthy lifestyle. I believe that motivation comes from a healthy lifestyle. If you don’t get enough sleep, if you have bad food habits or if you don’t exercise at all, you’re most likely to feel down and depressed. Whenever you’re having a rough time, go outside for a walk, breathe some fresh air and try to relax. Try to drink more water and to make sure that you sleep as much as you need (most people need between 7 to 9 hours of sleep).
Get started. There are some days when we feel slow and lazy and all we want to do is watching tv shows while eating junk food. We’ve all had those days and that’s fine: we need those unproductive, lazy days but when you have a test or a deadline coming, you can’t lay down the whole day. So get up and get started. It gets better once we start working, I promise. Write it down and read it whenever you’re feeling down because if you stay in your bed all day instead of doing your homework than you’re most likely to have a bad grade and it won’t help you getting motivated… It’s a vicious and cruel circle. So GET UP!

five tips for study marathons
In Belgium we have this thing called ‘blok’. It’s the name for the two to three weeks of marathon studying between the end of classes and the start of exams, related to the verb ‘blokken’, which basically means ‘hardcore studying’. It’s obviously not a very pleasant time, so here are some tips to survive those study marathons!
1. Hydrate. Of course has been said again and again, but that’s because it’s so important! I usually get myself either a half-liter pint and a (reusable!) straw. Straws really help me to drink more, but they’re not very good for the environment, so if you can get your hands on a reusable one, go for it! You can also try adding fruit to your water for some extra flavour.
2. Breathe ouside air at least once a day. I don’t care how you do it. Take a walk at noon, go on a morning run, breathe really deep when you’re in line for the library, stick your head out of a window, I don’t care. Just do it. You need the oxygen and it’s not good to sit inside all day.
3. Don’t wear stuff you sleep in. Now, I’m not saying you can’t wear pjs. What I’m saying is, don’t wear the pjs you wore to bed. Not even if you study at home. Don’t do it. Make sure your brain knows that studying and sleeping are two very different things.
4. Get off your butt during breaks. Sometimes when I’m on a roll at the library, I can study a whole afternoon, with breaks only to go to the bathroom and to refill my waterbottle/make new tea. It works, because I walk around. Point being, have a dance break! Go for a walk! Move!
5. Sleep is useful. I get that if you have an exam the next day and you really need to finish this last chapter, you stay up until 3am. But otherwise, don’t do that to yourself. You can do that tomorrow morning. Your brain needs sleep, you’re not wasting time. Promise. Take care of yourself.
I hope these are useful! You can do this!

I think all Gilmore Girls fans can agree that Rory Gilmore is the original studyblr! If I’m having a chill study session, I’ll play an old episode where she is extra motivated or there is a big focus on academics. The following are my go-tos!

S03E17- “A Tale of Poes and Fire”
Rory picks her college.
S03E22- “Those Are Strings, Pinocchio”
Rory graduates high school and deals with paying for college.
S04E01- “Ballrooms & Biscotti”
Lorelai and Rory have to deal with the stress of preparing for college.
S04E02- “The Lorelais’ First Day at Yale”
Rory starts college.
S04E03- “The Hobbit, the Sofa, and Digger Stiles”
Rory begins her college shopping period.
S04E06- “An Affair to Remember”
Rory has trouble finding a good place to study while she is behind on her class syllabus.

Rory is told to toughen up her journalistic writing, so she writes a harsh review and faces the consequences.
S04E10- “The Nanny and the Professor”
Rory participates in the orientation for her school newspaper.
S04E14- “The Incredible Sinking Lorelais”
This episode once again deals with academic failure.
S05E10- “But Not As Cute As Pushkin”
Rory gives a tour of Yale to a high school student.

6 Things People Don't Always Tell You About Studying
1. you ace tests by overlearning. you should know your notes/flashcards/definitions basically by heart. if someone asks you about a topic when you’re away from class or your notes and you can answer them in a thorough and and accurate answer, then you’re good, you know the material.
2. if you don’t understand something, it will end up on the test. so just don’t disregard and hope that this specific topic won’t be on the test. give it more attention, help, and practice. find a packet of problems on that one concept and don’t stop until you finish it and know it the best.
3. sometimes you just need that Parental Push. you know in elementary school, they would tell you “ok now it’s time for you to do your homework! you have a project coming up, start looking for a topic now!” ONE of your teachers might be like this. be thankful for it and follow their advice! these teachers are the best at always keeping you on track with their calendar. if not a teacher, then have one of your friends be that person that can keep you accountable for the things you promised you would do.
4. you just need to kick your own ass. seriously. i know it sucks and its hard to study for two things at once. BUT. I DONT CARE IF IT’S HARD. you need to do it and at least do it to get it over with because you can’t keep putting things off. If you do, you will eventually run out of time and you will hate yourself. force yourself to do it. i made myself sign up for june ACT even though there’s finals because if i didn’t, i probably never would. like do i think i’m gonna be ready in one month? probably not, SO I BETTER GET ON IT AND START STUDYING!
5. do homework even if it doesn’t count. if you actually try on it, then you will actually do so much better on the tests, it’s like magic.
6. literally just get so angry about procrastinating that you make yourself start that assignment. I know how hard it is to kick the procrastination habit. I have to procrastinate. So I make myself start by thinking about my deadlines way early. I think, “oh i have a presentation in three weeks (but it really takes 2 weeks to do), i’ll be good and start today.” when that doesn’t happen, you say you’ll do it tomorrow, and this happens for like the next four days. I get so mad at myself for not starting when i am given a new chance to do so with every passing day. By that time, you actually have exactly how much time you need for it AND you were able to procrastinate the same way you usually do ;)
