ONCE UPON A time, she called him that for the first time. she was still little, her eyes huge like a baby cow. she'd been sick, curled up in his arms. he'd almost missed it, but the way she mumbled the word is burned into his memory -- even when he inevitably looses his mind & all his senses, he will hear her saying it until satan drags him home.

" i can tie a bow, evie, " he says, joking but soft, " i'm not so useless. yet. blue or yellow, petite ours? " he shows her the ribbons in question: one a baby blue, the other a pale yellow with shiny white polka dots.

HE RISES FROM the bed, concern creasing his brow. evelyn was presently in the care of one susan grimshaw, meaning they could talk of grown up things she was too young to know about.

“Elskan, I c-c-can’t not worry.” That was a bit of an understatement, words shaking as she spoke, fingers working into the scar that cut just below her brow. “I can’t…” A breath, arms curling tight over her chest to try and hold herself still. “I can’t s-sleep like this.”

what kept casey with the gang for so long was the illusion of safety for him and evie. once sean is killed -- out in the open in broad daylight -- that illusion begins to crack, shattering completely with the brutality shown to kieran, but he doesn't fully leave until after hosea is killed and dutch begins to violently unravel.
