Just hit me that it was 25 years ago today when I got to hang out with Gregory Peck in Fort Worth, TX. The second of three encounters, this one was extra special as he made time for us to chat 1-on-1. Forever thankful for the kindness he showed me. 🙏🏼

Faith is a force, a powerful force. To me, it’s been like an anchor to windward - something that’s seen me through troubled times and some personal tragedies and also through the good times and success and the happy times. Happy Birthday, Gregory Peck! (April 5th, 1916 - June 12th, 2003)

Happy 105th birthday to my extra dad!
They say the bad guys are more interesting to play but there is more to it than that - playing the good guys is more challenging because it’s harder to make them interesting.

Add in the fact that he was as nice as he was handsome, it almost seems improbable someone like him could have even existed. Was lucky enough to have him sign one of my favorite promo photos the first time we met.

I swear, some people just shouldn’t have the right to look as they do.
Damn.

Twenty years ago this week I met with Gregory Peck for the last time. While we had exchanged letters, emails and phone calls, the memories of the three times we met in person are so fantastic it feels like they happened to another person.
The third and final time was extra special as Greg and Veronique were kind enough to invite my mother and I over to their home for the afternoon.
As we were saying goodbye for what I did not realize would be the last time, Greg went for a hug. I had a happy childhood but hugs were not a large part of it. Greg smiled and said "That's not how family hugs. THIS is how family hugs!" as he pulled me in deeper for a comforting embrace. Forever grateful for my "extra dad."

Good Lord, what is it with Gregory Peck and crazy horses in westerns?.. )))
The pinto’s name is Dice, he was quite an accomplished actor, with nine acting credits to his name (he was even Zorro’s horse in “Zorro Rides Again”) and his own page on IMDb.

- Ramón, whatever happens, this is strictly between you and me and the horse, right?

20 years ago this week I flew to Fort Worth to attend a Q&A with the cast of To Kill a Mockingbird. 20 years ago today I had the chance to meet with Greg one-on-one for the first time. The second of our three encounters. Still feels like all of that happened to a different person!

Robert Forster
July 13, 1941 - October 11, 2019

I caught a part of the season premiere of The Simpsons earlier tonight and was surprised to hear Robert Forster voicing a character.
He’s a heck of a nice guy. I interviewed him my sophomore year at KU for a film class. I even got him to say “May the Fors be with you." The week after the interview he sent me the above signed photo.

Happy 101st Birthday Eldred Gregory Peck! April 5th, 1916 - June 12th, 2003
You have to dream, you have to have a vision, and you have to set a goal for yourself that might even scare you a little because sometimes that seems far beyond your reach. Then I think you have to develop a kind of resistance to rejection, and to the disappointments that are sure to come your way.

Here is video of my friend Gabrielle Boulaine. She passed away in 2010. This is one of her last performances filmed when she knew she was dying. I’m grateful to have been able to say goodbye to her. I’m grateful that she could leave all of us with this piece.
