Then, Alicent marries the widowed king, a decision Jocelyn always was a little put off by. Then her best friends start growing apart and she feels caught in the middle. Then, her brother dies and even though making a daughter the heir was fit for the king, Jocelyn's father didn't feel the same and now she was worried her family name may slip into someone else's hands. Gaemon Targaryen (Alicent Hightower ship)
When your older brother is king and your twin brother is renowned as a great warrior, it was easy for eyes to pass you over. That was Gaemon's life. From childhood to adulthood, with Daemon being married off to avoid causing problems for their older brother, Gaemon got to remain until he found his own wife. But who knew when that would be. Instead he focused on his own life and skills, his dragon and his poetry and his swordsmanship, and after years of just doing that, he finally decided to at least leave the castle for his own. Some travel, some visiting other houses, and he didn't return to Viserys again. Until he received word of his older brother's death, which made him come back and see Alicent for more than just brief conversations for the first time in years.

Thunderbolts was just....so good
Darielys Inman (Bucky Barnes ship)
Dari wasn't a hero. She would never claim to be and she never wanted to be. Heroes were people who did good and saved lives, not people that were experimented on and then abandoned when it didn't seem to work. People who felt like they had vibrations within them for years that didn't seem to go away no matter what drugs she tried and what programs she was in to curb the addictions. People who cause power outages and don't know how to stop it, whose only chance of money or much of anything is a woman named Valentina. And when she finally feels better and like she has a chance to stop working for her and live her own life after one last job, she ends up in a covert facility to kill a target. A job that makes her learn that Valentina was planning on getting all of them killed.

UNDERGROUND TERRORS
Tumblr media
JON: "Are you certain you want to do this? You do not have to—"”
MELLY: "I know you'd rather I didn't. Just another nut to listen to, follow up on, and file away in the endless shelves of this archive, right?"
JON: "That wasn't what I said."
MELLY: "Of course you wouldn't say it in front of anyone, Jon, but it's written all over your face every time you record a statement. You are not that slick."
JON: “If you say so. I just wanted to give you an out before you dive back into the incident that made you abandon your homeland and your family.”
MELLY: "It's okay. I want to get it out there. Every time I come to work, it feels like it's clawing its way to the surface, and I get a shiver down my spine whenever I walk past that creaking space on the floor."
JON SIGHED, LEANED OVER TO THE OLD RECORDER THAT BARELY SEEMED TO WORK FOR HIM MOST OF THE TIME, AND PRESSED THE RECORD BUTTON.
JON: “Statement of Amelia Bird, regarding her time in the Paris catacombs and the deaths of her sister and husband. Statement taken directly from the subject on March the 17th, 2016. Statement begins.”
MELLY TOOK A DEEP BREATH, STRAIGHTENING IN THE CHAIR BEFORE SHE SPOKE, LULLED BY THE SOFT CRACKLING OF THE RECORDER.
MELLY: "I can't recall what prompted us to organize the trip. Really, it was an impromptu decision. My husband's name was Andrew Hughes. I cherished him a lot. He received a sizable inheritance from his recently deceased father, Gregory Hughes. My sister, Monica Bird, and I had always managed our finances well and had saved a good deal of money, enough to maintain this dream of seeing the world. We were fortunate enough to be able to afford the trip and ready for a vacation from the awful ins and outs of work, chores, sleep, and nothing else. In hindsight, "blessed" might be a strong word. But my sister had recently had a falling out with my mother, Sheryl Bird, which surprised me given that Moni was usually her darling daughter. It didn't matter if she had an abortion at fifteen or crashed her minivan into the side of the house in a drunken stupor a year later—Moni was her angel, the daughter she'd always desired. It didn't matter how smart I was, and you know how smart I am. Despite my talent, extracurricular activities, and master's degrees, it never seemed enough. I could always do better; be mindful of the future and avoid becoming overly lazy. It was driving me crazy. I don't think anyone was surprised that I stopped talking to her after I started college. I didn't invite her to my wedding, and she was smart enough to get the hint. Of course, I knew my sister and father, Benjamin Bird, were still telling her about my life. It's the unfortunate consequence of not completely cutting off your family. But in all honesty, Dad and Moni were never the issue. It may seem unlikely, but I never blamed my little sister for being the favorite. She did not choose the role in the play about our dysfunctional family. So, when she was ready to break out and begged to join Andrew and me on our journey, I couldn't resist her puppy dog eyes—I never could. I wish I'd had the fortitude to deny her even one request now."
THERE IS A BEAT OF SILENCE AS MELLY STARES AT A PICTURE OF HERSELF, ANDREW, AND MONI IN FRONT OF THE EIFFEL TOWER WITH A SENSE OF MELANCHOLY.
MELLY: "I was worried that Moni's presence would disrupt what was supposed to be a solo trip for me and Andrew, but it all worked out pretty easily in the end. She served well as a buffer when a travel mishap threatened to escalate into an argument between Andy and me, and when we needed some alone time, she was quick to take the hint and divert her attention elsewhere in the area. That was the thing about my sister; no matter how crazy she was in her youth, she had completely changed her ways since then. By the time we arrived in Rome, she knew exactly how to keep herself out of trouble across the border. She knew how to watch out for herself. I was never quite as good at it, strangely enough. So, when we arrived in Paris, nearly halfway through our journey, a lot of my concerns about people in other countries had vanished. So I didn't even notice when this one guy sat next to me in a bar while Andrew and Moni played drinking games across the room. I had to fight hard not to wrinkle my nose at his stench—rotten meat and damp earth had suddenly permeated the air. I looked around to see if anyone could help me, but the area was suddenly deserted. I initially assumed that this was just some drunken, awkward guy trying to flirt with me, so I held up my left hand and pointed to the wedding band on my finger, unsure of which language he spoke."
SHE EXAMINES THE AREA WHERE HER WEDDING RING WAS ONCE KEPT. THERE, THE SKIN TONE WAS A SHADE PALER THAN THE REST OF HER HAND. IT WAS ONLY RECENTLY THAT SHE HAD REMOVED IT.
MELLY: "He shook his head, a grin spreading across his face gradually. I was surprised by the state of his teeth. They were covered in blood and dirt, as if he had recently been chomping on dirt roads and gravel. I tried to get out of the booth, but his hand wrapped around my arm in an unexpected and swift motion, trapping me in place. He spoke abruptly, his voice gravelly and somewhat condensed. 'Not you,' he said in slightly broken English, a thick French accent obscuring his words. I couldn't find the words to respond. 'My name is Jacques DuPont, and I want to tell you a story. It's about an individual named Émile Laurent. I think you'll like it.'”
MELLY: "I was frozen in place, as if his hand was capable of keeping me there. I had no idea why he chose me to tell his horror story, and I still don't, but I listened nonetheless. I guess part of me hoped that if I didn't make a fuss, he'd leave faster. My silence, I suppose, served as a signal for him to proceed. So he did.”
JACQUES: "Émile was born in the early 19th century. His mother was poor and struggled to feed both of them, so she eventually decided to drop him off at an orphanage and leave Paris. The boy grew up to tower over his peers and had not spoken since his mother abandoned him. The women who watched over him quickly developed a fear of him. People in the area knew not to keep pets because they would disappear in no time. For years, everyone around him lived in silent fear. That was until Émile turned sixteen, and the other kids thought it would be hilarious to play a prank on him. So they enticed him into the cellar beneath the orphanage—a small space beneath a sturdy hatch that wasn't even big enough to be classified as a room. They pushed him inside, locked the door, and resumed their normal activities. That day was a field day for the orphans, which they knew not to lament because it was the only time they ever experienced any joy. Émile refused to leave his room, according to the pranksters, who told the nuns this when they inquired about his whereabouts. The nuns were happy to believe this lie. With his limbs confined at the sides of his body, Émile's whimpers reverberated off the damp dirt walls as he spent hours in that small cellar. He became more and more irate the longer he was in that cramped room, and by the evening when the nuns and kids came home, his cries were the only sounds echoing throughout the house. Émile was quickly located and set free by the nuns, but they were unable to soothe him. The children realized their demise was imminent when the first nun let out a shriek of horrifying pain. Émile moved through the building in less than an hour, and when the police broke down the orphanage's doors, he sat in a pool of blood at the bottom of the stairs, holding one of the nuns' heads in his arms. The remaining body parts were haphazardly scattered throughout the building, carelessly ignored. Émile was not questioned, nor was he given the benefit of the doubt. They just threw him into a jail cell and chained him to the wall with multiple metal chains. One nun, the youngest in the orphanage, who had only recently begun her assignment there, was surprisingly still there. She had taken refuge in a hidden alcove beneath the large staircase, which only she had recently found, and listened to the children's cries and the damp sounds of flesh being ripped to pieces. The following day, she left Paris, refusing to participate in any trials. Less than a week into his captivity, Émile tore his restraints from the wall and shattered the flimsy metal bars of the prison cells. Any policeman who stood in his way was killed, and those who were wise enough to avoid him would later claim to have heard whispers coming from beneath the station's floor. Émile easily tore apart any officers who attempted to stop him as he made his way to one of the catacombs' hidden entrances. Never to be seen again, he vanished into the catacombs, but he was undoubtedly heard from each time a poor fool entered those caverns and failed to come out. You have my gratitude for hearing the story. Remember my name, please.”
MELLY: "He was gone as quickly as he arrived. I listened to the story carefully, and it horrified me. I'd never heard of Émile Laurent and had to look him up later. He's a lesser-known serial killer. Mostly because his murders were difficult to prove after he disappeared into the catacombs. I wanted to ask Jacques why he told me this story, but when I finally came out of my trance, he was gone. I joined Andrew and Moni at the bar. I didn't tell them what had happened because I didn't want to ruin their fun. That night, however, I had a dream about the catacombs—not Émile Laurent, but those caverns. I had never been there, but in my dream, I knew everything about them. The next day, I insisted on going to the catacombs instead of climbing the Eiffel Tower. My husband and sister seemed to be about to admit me to a mental hospital. We Bird girls were well-known for our dislike of cramped quarters. Our older cousin once locked us in a cellar similar to the one Émile Laurent was in back then. Our father did not find us until midnight. We never talked about what happened in that cellar, but it was bad enough to put us off underground spelunking for life. Still, something compelled me to go down there and explore. I can't explain it, but the sensation was magnetic. It took me a half hour to persuade them that it was not a joke and that this was what I wanted, as well as to persuade Moni to accompany me, but they eventually agreed, and we received last-minute visitation tickets to a tour of the catacombs."
MELLY LAUGHED SOFTLY AND SADLY..
MELLY: "The public tour of the catacombs was about as boring as you'd expect. At least if you are a true explorer. They must prevent tourists from wandering into dangerous areas, where they could become lost in the endless tunnels below. If you aren't careful, you'll find yourself in the dark with no way out. That is precisely what happened to us. I'm unable to explain it yet again. I suddenly stopped walking. I was at the tail end of the group; it must have been the one day when they didn't have a guide in the back to call the herd. I could swear I heard something, and it stopped me dead in my tracks. I thought it was only for a few seconds, but it must have been minutes—or even longer—because the next thing I recall is Andy shaking me and yanking me out of my trance. We quickly realized that the group had left. We couldn't hear them anymore, and every turn we took to catch up with them led us deeper into the cavern. The only wise decision I had made was to bring extra supplies, lights, and batteries, but even that wouldn't help us in the end."
JON: "You were gone for two weeks. What happened during that time?"
MELLY: "I can't remember much. All I know is that it changed my life as I knew it."
JON: “Go on.”
MELLY: "We were split up pretty quickly. We had no intention of doing so, but before I knew it, my sister and then my husband had left. In all my life, I had never felt so afraid. Down there, it was dark, and I can still smell the damp earthy smell. I had a few flashlights and my headlamp, but I made the snap decision to save the battery until someone came to our aid; I hoped Andy and Moni were doing the same. I carefully walked through the caverns, pausing every two hours to protect the lights. I was confident that once the tour group discovered we were missing, they would arrive quickly. I know it was foolish of me. You're well aware that no one arrived. Not for what seemed like eternity. A total of twelve days. That's how long I wandered down there, staring at the endless walls of bones whenever I wasn't sitting in the dark, sipping stale water and trying to ignore the faint noises of clattering metal chains that seemed to get closer every time I rested for too long. I looked for Andy and Moni, of course. However, there was no sign of them anywhere, so they could have been in another universe for all I knew. I can't tell you how long I cried each day or how much I slept, if at all. The darkness enveloped me, and I had to fight the urge to reach for the flashlights every time I heard the chains clink and the heavy footfall that was getting closer by the day. The flashlights eventually broke down, leaving me in the dark. I'm not sure how far into my two-week stay it was, but it had to be early because my eyes became accustomed to the darkness quickly. I stuck to my plan, gradually exploring the corridors, trying to feel my way along the walls and avoid any openings in the floor. But the noise didn't stop. Chains, footsteps, and occasional drops of water on the floor. And bats. I was certain I heard them, but I couldn't tell you whether they were real or not - all I knew was that they kept me calm.”
JON: “So, how were you found in the end?”
MELLY: "A good question, to be honest. I really don't know. I just know what the cops told me later. Another tour group came across me twelve days later. I was covered in dirt and my eyes were described as "crazy." I was extremely dehydrated and malnourished, and when they treated me at the hospital, they discovered after cleaning the blood off my hands that I had ripped off my fingernails - most likely while trying to claw my way out of the caverns.”
MELLY GLANCES AT WHERE HER FINGERNAILS HAVE CRUDELY GROWN BACK.
JON: “Statement ends.”
MELLY: "The bodies of Andy and Moni were never discovered, but it's highly likely that they either died without food or water or that they went somewhere they shouldn't have in the dark. I have no idea what became of them, and I doubt I ever will. When I was well enough for them to let me go, I thought about what I should do next. I knew I couldn't go back home. I was not going to face my mother and have her blame me for my sister's death, even if it was my fault. I asked my father to clear out my and Andrew's apartment, sell all the furniture, and do whatever he wanted with the personal belongings; I didn't want any of it. Even after learning of my new address in London, my father continued to send me photographs. The UK was our next stop on this trip, so I decided to make it my permanent home. The invitation to work here came about two weeks after I had moved into my new apartment. And you know the rest. I've been trying to forget everything, but recently a package arrived. I thought it was my father again, sending me more stuff I hadn't asked for. But there was no return address, and when I opened the box, I realized it contained my sister's camera. It was pretty smashed up, and the lens was broken, but I was able to extract the last few minutes of footage before we went down there. For some time, the rest was corrupted. I was able to repair the damage last night, which is why I'm making this statement today. I just can't look at it. My sister's last moments of life. Whatever happened to her, it would destroy me. So I'd like you to do it. I don't care whether it has anything on it. I've come to accept my role in their deaths. I just want that suffocating sensation to end."
THE RESEARCH INCLUDES A FINAL RECORDING OF MONICA BIRS, WHICH DETAILA HER ESCAPE FROM AN UNKNOWN ENTITY. SHE IS OUT OF BREATH AND REPORTS RUNNING FOR TWO DAYS IN A ROW, ONLY BREAKING WHEN SHE HEARS THE RATTLING OF CHAINS. SHE REACHES A WALL AND REALIZES SHE HAS NOWHERE ELSE TO TURN. HER CAMERA HAD FALLEN FROM HER HAND A FEW FEET AWAY, LEAVING ONLY HER WHIMPERING TO BE HEARD AS THE SOUNDS OF RATTLING CHAINS INTENSIFIED. A FEW SECONDS LATER, THE CHAINS REMAIN RATTLE AS INVISIBLE FOOTSTEPS APPEAR IN THE CAMERA'S VIEW. MONICA BEGINS SCREAMING AND DOESN'T STOP UNTIL A SUDDEN SNAP AND THUD IS HEARD. THE SOUND OF DRAGGING CAN BE HEARD, AND SECONDS LATER, MONICA BIRD'S BODY IS DRAGGED ACROSS THE CAMERA'S VIEW BY UNSEEN SOURCES. HER HEAD BEEN COMPLETELY SPUN AROUND, AND SHE WAS MOST CEETAINLY DEAD.
JON, LATER: "I've done a lot of following-up on Amelia's statement; it felt wrong not to. She did, indeed, embark on a world tour with her husband and younger sister. Until Paris, their tour had been extensively documented. Andrew Hughes and Monica Bird were never seen again, and their bodies were never recovered, which does not seem unusual in a place like the catacombs. These vast and dark tunnels stretch for miles, and it is easy to become lost in them. I was certain that Andrew and Monica were just two more lives lost to the caverns until I saw the final footage of Monica's last few days alive. Like her sister, she would save the battery life of her torches and camera by only recording herself every few days. I'll include the recording in the statement after this. Another thing to keep in mind is that no official tour of the catacombs was scheduled on the day Amelia and her family descended into the tunnels. Martin followed up with Jacques DuPont. Monsieur DuPont, along with his brother Henri, appears to have gone missing several months before Amelia and her family did. DuPont was discovered wandering the catacombs alone a week later, without his brother. He was treated at the hospital and questioned by police before being released into the community, where he disappeared again a month later. Curiously, a few weeks after Amelia left Paris, a tourist reported being told a story by someone who looked suspiciously like Monica Bird—something that should be impossible if you've seen footage of her final days and death. End recording."

okay so i need to know everything about sarah- or anything you're willing to share because i love her already
Ahh, I’m so glad you love her!! I can definitely tell you some fun facts! (And I’m also gonna tag @aceyanaheim, @ginevrastilinski-ocs, @manyfandomocs, @tempests-of-hope, and @dancingsunflowers-ocs.)
Sarah does not have a mom in basically any sense of having one - nobody ever told her which female S.H.I.E.L.D. agent donated the egg she grew from (she wasn’t actually carried, just basically grown in a lab) and she’s never been that interested in finding out.
Almost everyone working in S.H.I.E.L.D. has had a hand in raising her, but, of course, she’s spent the most amount of time with Coulson and Hill and Natasha and Clint (and May, as much as May likes to pretend she doesn’t have a soft spot for her).
They all made sure that Sarah knew how to actually do the standard spy stuff, like interrogation and stealth, and do it well without relying too much on her powers.
Of course, she’s also incredibly skilled in a variety of weapons and fighting styles, as well as an amazing ballet dancer due to Natasha’s tutelage.
Pretty much everyone at S.H.I.E.L.D. is an aunt or uncle to her, and she will absolutely call them that (except for Fury, who is always and forever Grandpa to her).
She’s kept away from Steve for a little bit still after he comes out of the ice, because Fury isn’t sure how he’s going to react to finding out that S.H.I.E.L.D. basically created his daughter without his permission, so she only meets him about a month before the events of the first Avengers movie.
Steve, of course, is shocked and a bit betrayed that this would have been done without his consent when he was pretty much dead, but he also has a connection to Sarah from the very beginning and wants to make sure he’s as good a dad to her as he can be.
She makes friends with Bruce almost from the moment they meet, because she’s not the least bit afraid of him or of the Hulk - in fact, she eventually calls him Uncle B, and the Hulk Uncle Green Bean.
Tony sends her to start attending Midtown after he discovers Peter (Civil War doesn’t happen in Sarah’s canon, so it happens differently somehow) because he wants to make sure someone has an eye on him. Sarah’s not exactly happy about being a glorified babysitter at first, and Peter, who of course knows who she is, doesn’t really love being watched, but they grow stupidly fond of each other very quickly.
She’s ultimately a poly ship with Peter, MJ, and Ned, but she starts dating just Ned at first, with Peter and MJ dating each other, and they all realize they all have feelings for each other and come together eventually.
At some point, I’m not sure how just yet, she gets light generation powers alongside her super solider enhancements.

ALL the emoji headcanons for Lottie? :D
Oh, Anon, I love you for this, thank you!! Also gonna tag @manyfandomocs and @littlebvtterfly!! <3 <3
🍽️ - All-time favorite food?
Some really well-made fish and chips, specifically from the little place a few blocks away from her flat.
🥤 - All-time favorite drink?
Raspberry lemonade, usually with an extra spoonful of sugar added to it.
🕛 - Favorite midnight snack?
Hot Cheetos, accompanied by a big glass of water. She usually shares this with Tim, and the others despair at their choices.
🍺 - Thoughts on alcohol?
She doesn’t judge other people for drinking unless they’re violent or cruel when drunk, but due both to her childhood and the fact that alcoholism runs in her family, she won’t touch it herself and has actually developed something of a fear of alcohol.
✏️ - Favorite creative endeavors?
Planning her outfits and accessories, sketching eyes and taping them up all around the archives to deter Elias’s powers, and planning and executing pranks with Tim.
🎮 - Hobbies?
Originally her hobbies consist mostly of pranking and the occasional little sketch, as well as her research into any sort of supernatural being or occurrence that deals with fire (although this really counts as more of an obsession than a hobby). After everything starts picking up and going to shit, there’s really not much room left for hobbies, although she will still indulge in some drawing to calm herself down every now and then.
🧑🏼‍🚀 - Dream job?
After first being burned, she kind of stopped having a dream job and became a lot more focused on just figuring out what had happened to her mother, and wanted to chase any job that would help her figure that out. But before that, she’d wanted to be a librarian, an ambition that did end up coming true when she first started working at the Magnus Institute.
😨 - Biggest fears?
Becoming like either of her parents, losing control and becoming a true avatar of The Eye or The Desolation, losing her people, losing the fight against the Entities.
🤞🏼 - Biggest hopes?
That one day the fight will be over and she and her partners will be able to finally settle down and have their happy ending, and that one day, she will properly overcome her brokenness and actually learn to accept the love the others give her.
🤫 - Biggest secret?
For a while, her biggest secret is that she had lied when applying to work in the Institute and actually had had a paranormal experience before working there. After that, when The Eye and The Desolation start properly wrestling for dominion over her, the secret she keeps from the others is that sometimes, she wants to give in to the power The Desolation offers, to embrace the fire in her blood and hurt other people the way she’s been hurt. (She never does, but during the worst of it, there are times when the urge becomes so strong she can hardly breathe.)
😉 - Lying ability?
She’s pretty damn good, generally, but it becomes harder for her the closer she is to the person or people she’s lying to. To strangers or people she hates, she can lie as easily as breathing, but when it comes to her partners, or her friends like Georgie or Basira, her lies become more awkward, fumbling things that nobody really believes.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 - Relationship with their family?
Absolutely terrible. After all, both of her parents were abusive drunks, and her mother is the reason her torso is covered in burn scars and the reason she’s been marked by The Desolation since she was only fourteen years old. They’re both dead now, thankfully, and she’s never been able to find it in herself to mourn them at all.
🛝 - Best childhood memory?
When her father finally finished drinking himself to death, a few months before her eighteenth birthday. She knows she should feel guilty that that’s her best memory of him, but her childhood was so rife with fear and pain because of him and her mother that it’s no real surprise her best recollection is that of finally being free of it.
🫂 - Favorite way to show affection?
Lottie is the to absolutely heap compliments and praise on the people she loves. She can also be very physically affectionate, but some days she struggles with touch - her tendency to load sweet words on someone until they’re throughly flustered, though, is eternal.
😍 - Thoughts on romance and/or sex?
Though she is, of course, incredibly respectful of Jon’s asexuality, Lottie does thoroughly enjoy sex, whether with her other partners or one night stands she’s had in the past. Romance, however, is a bit of a different story - Lottie has experienced so little genuine love or affection in her life that, when confronted with it, she tends to act a bit like a stray dog being offered pets for the first time: wary of it and ready to snap at the faintest hint of ulterior motives. She does get better about accepting and giving it, once she’s with the others, but it takes a while.
😳 - Reaction to being flirted with?
It really depends on the person and their intentions. If it’s just someone chatting her up for the purpose of a no strings attached hookup, then Lottie has no problem flirting back with her usual quick smirk and quicker wit. But if the person is genuinely meaning to ask her on a date? They’re going to be met with wide eyes and awkward stammering, tinged with wary hostility.
💘 - Relationship status?
She and Martin are dating (or sort of dating, with no real label on it) at the beginning of her story, and by the end, she’s in a very happy relationship with her four partners and fellow Archivists.
🌹 - Favorite thing to do on a date?
When going out on a date with just one of her partners, Lottie is always happiest doing what will make that partner the happiest (and they all have different ideal dates). When going out with all four of them, she always likes packing a picnic and going to the park on a cloudy day. They’ll usually have the park all to themselves, and they can all just sit and enjoy a nice picnic lunch together, laughing and eating and talking.
😴 - Sleeping habits?
They’re not… good. And they never really get good. She’s already plagued by nightmares and running off coffee most of the time at the beginning of her story, and given everything that happens, that just gets worse. (At the very least, she now has four partners who also have nightmares, all of whom are more than happy to soothe her back to sleep or stay up with her when she can’t fall asleep again.)
🛏️ - Bedroom setup?
The room Lottie shares with her four partners is a calm little place, removed from any of the other chaos in their lives. The walls are painted a calm, light blue, with a few of Sasha’s drawings and one of Tim’s garish “Live, Laugh, Love” posters pinned up on them. The bed is a king size, big enough to fit all five of them and covered with a thick purple comforter and the huge stuffed dog that Tim has named Barnaby. There’s several bookshelves around the room, filled with both books and the assorted little knickknacks that Martin loves to collect, and a little fuzzy purple rug by the bed, and the whole room is filled with an air of peace and domesticity.
🛁 - Bathing habits?
Due to trauma, Lottie hates taking baths, but she does do her best to shower at least once a day. She always washes her body first, then her hair, preferring to use men’s body wash and a green apple shampoo. She shaves her legs once a week and her armpits twice a week, and doesn’t like to put any lotion or anything on when she’s done, although she does use a special wash for her face after she’s out of the shower.
🤕 - Reaction to being injured?
Let’s just put it this way: if Lottie’s leg got fully torn off, she would still insist that she could stand up. Due to her childhood, her instinct is always to ignore her pain and push through it, and it’s usually a chore to get her to actually accept that she’s hurt and accept help for it.
🤒 - Reaction to being sick?
It’s much the same as being hurt. Getting Lottie to ever admit that she’s sick is a Herculean task, and she’s known for just trying to push through it until she pretty much collapses.
😷 - Reaction to being put into quarantine/ lockdown?
Honestly, as long as she had her partners with her, I don’t think Lottie would mind a quarantine at all. The more people are kept in their homes and kept away from each other, the less opportunities for certain Entities to wreak havoc (although she does know that some, like The Lonely or The Corruption, would have a field day with lockdown).
🪦 - Thoughts on death?
She knows it’s inevitable, of course, and she’s never really been scared of it, especially not after learning about The End and meeting some of its avatars, physical manifestations of it who can be spoken to if not reasoned with. The only thing about it that scares her is the thought that it might come for the other Archivists before it comes for her, and then she’ll have to live with having lost one of the people who are her reason for continuing on.
🎁 - Favorite gift ever?
As cheesy as it sounds, she would definitely say that it’s getting to be in a relationship with her partners. The others loving her truly saved her in more ways than one, and she’ll never stop being grateful for it.
🥸 - Favorite costume ever?
She didn’t really get to celebrate Halloween much as a child, but her first Halloween working at the Magnus Institute, Martin persuaded her to dress up as Belle and the Beast with him. It felt a little silly, but she actually did feel pretty in her cheap yellow costume dress, and she had a lot of fun doing the couples’ costume with Martin.
🕺🏼 - Thoughts on dancing?
She’s not particularly good at it, but she loves it, whether it means competing with Tim to see who can come up with the worst dance move or just swaying around the kitchen with Jon in the middle of the night to music only they can hear.
🎵 - Favorite genre of music?
She’s not generally picky, but she does love punk music and songs that have an angry feel to them.
🎶 - Three favorite songs ever?
“Rebel Girl” by Bikini Kill, “Basket Case” by Green Day, and “God Save the Queen” by Sex Pistols.
📺 - Favorite TV show?
Taskmaster - it’s a harmless, low-stakes show she can put on for background noise and have a good laugh to, which is exactly the kind of show she needs in her life.
🎞️ - Favorite movie?
The original Carrie. She resonates with Carrie White so much, particularly after her mother’s death and her getting marked by The Desolation for reasons she can’t explain until after she learns about everything.
🔪 - Thoughts on scary movies?
She really loved them when she was younger - consuming fictional horror stories was, for her, a great escape from the horror of living in her house with her parents - but after being scarred and experiencing real horror for the first time, she lost her taste for them a bit. By the time the truth about the Entities and the Unknowing is revealed, she can no longer stand to watch them at all; she has enough spooky things in her everyday life, she doesn’t want to voluntarily experience any more.
🍿 - Favorite movie snacks?
Kettle corn is usually her go-to, but she also likes sour candy and whatever sweets Martin has stress-baked recently, with a big glass of soda to wash it all down.
📖 - Favorite book?
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson.
🐁 - Favorite small animal?
She is a big cat person. She adores The Admiral, and when the five Archivists adopt a cat of their own, a little grey thing called The General that looks like a little ball of lint, she absolutely dotes on her and quickly becomes her favourite parent besides Jon.
🐘 - Favorite large animal?
Elephants! She loves how smart they are and how good their memories are, and the fact that they find humans cute is one of her favourite ever facts.
🐈 - Favorite pet?
She never had any pets growing up, unless you count the stray cats outside the flat she lives in at the start of her story that she sometimes feeds. But once the Archivists adopt The General, she dotes on that little creature like a true parent (and is a loving sort-of stepmother to The Admiral).
🐜 - Thoughts on bugs and spiders?
Before her entire life became creepy, she could’ve taken or left them, really - she didn’t necessarily like them, but she’d rather have shooed them out an open window or scooped them up and deposited them outside than killed them, and she found Martin’s kindness towards spiders adorable. After Jane Prentiss, and The Web, and everything else, she can never look at another creepy crawly, even if it is completely innocent, without at least trying to squash it.
🚢 - Dream vacation?
Anywhere warm and sunny, preferably with a beach, where she can just get away from everything with her partners and forget about the world they live in and everything they’ve been through.
💼 - Must-have items when packing for a trip?
More pairs of underwear and socks than she probably actually needs, headphones, sunscreen, and snacks for the trip, whether she’s going on a plane or driving.
🚗 - Driving skills?
The driving skill ranking in the polycule probably goes: Martin, Sasha, Lottie (who is competent but you cannot ask her to parallel park), Jon, Tim (who should only be allowed behind the wheel if they desperately need to escape the police or a monster).
⛺ - Thoughts on camping?
She’s never liked the idea of it, sleeping on the ground among the potential heat and danger and bugs, but after Everything she is even less willing to ever do it and risk getting torn apart by some kind of Hunt or Slaughter creature.
❄️ - Favorite season?
Autumn; she adores the whole aesthetic and will eat very little that’s not pumpkin flavoured during the month of October.
🎄- Favorite holiday?
Christmas; growing up, it was one of the only times of year her parents even attempted to be normal, loving parents, and though she never really got many presents until she started dating the others, she still remembers falling asleep in front of the dinky little tree her father was able to scrape up, bathed in the soft glow of the Christmas lights, fondly.
💸 - Financial situation?
The Magnus Institute does pay pretty well for an archival assistant’s job, and after Lottie and her partners are able to convince Elias to pay them all as head archivists, the money gets even better. At the start of her story, Lottie is able to afford a decent flat and treat herself fairly often, and eventually is even able to pay her equal share of the down payment on the house the Archivists buy together.
🏃‍♂️ - Athletic abilities?
Despite pretty much never exercising, Lottie is in fairly decent shape. She’s not particularly strong, but she has good endurance and is able to pull herself up to something if she can get a good two-handed grip and run decently long distances (both things which come in very handy as her life gets more dangerous).
🏀 - Favorite sports to watch or participate in?
None. She hates sports, she was never any good at them in school, and you won’t get her to play anything now.
😢 - Biggest emotional triggers?
Oof, that’s a bit of a list: angry yelling, anyone being mad at or around her, people around her drinking or being drunk, being touched when she’s already upset, seeing anyone else with burn scars, any visible fire in general. (That last one does get better when she starts to hone her Desolation powers a bit more.)
😡 - Biggest pet-peeves?
People who chew with their mouths open, people who are assholes for no reason, people who make fun of abuse victims or anyone with trauma.
👩🏼‍🎓 - Level of education?
She graduated from university with a bachelor’s in parapsychology and information sciences - she wanted to go for a master’s but couldn’t afford to stay in school any longer.
🙈 - Visual skills?
She has 20/20 vision and can see far distances away, and is good at picking out little details in what she sees.
🙉 - Listening skills?
She has very good hearing and is a good listener, always willing to let those she cares about vent to her and comfort them about their problems.
🙊 - Speaking skills?
Though she does swear quite a lot and doesn’t often use the sort of “intellectual” language more common in academia spaces like the Magnus Institute, Lottie is very good at getting her point across when she speaks, and is skilled in banter and coming up with comebacks.
🧮 - Math skills?
Oh, Lottie is… not very good at math. She can do basic addition, subtraction, multiplying, and dividing on her own, but after a certain point she’ll need a calculator, and if you start getting into long division or algebra she’ll just glare at you and give up.
👔 - Style?
Outside of work, where she does tone it down a bit, Lottie tends toward a more alternative style - lots of black, combat boots, wide-legged jeans, a lot of band shirts and fishnet tights. Sasha sometimes teases her and Gerard about having similar styles (and is then faced with a joint lecture on why alt and goth styles aren’t the same at all).
👑 - Self-image?
Bad. Horrifically bad. Cosmically bad. At the beginning of her story, Lottie sees herself as irreparably broken because of her past, and not worthy of any affection or love; this gets worse as her life spirals into supernatural chaos, and she starts to see herself as a monster because of her powers on top of it. Her partners are all trying to work on it with her, but it’s a lot to unpack and it will take a long time.
🔨 - Handy skills?
Despite constantly having to try and fix things around her childhood home whenever it broke and her parents couldn’t be bothered to call someone, Lottie is not handy at all and usually wound up having to pay someone in the neighborhood to do it in those situations. She’s fairly hopeless at anything having to do with plumbing or various other kinds of home repair.
🪜 - Thoughts on heights?
She’s not scared of them at all; aside from the vertigo it inevitably causes, The Vast is the Entity that affects her the least, because she has no fear of heights at all.
🧸 - Most prized possession?
The little friendship bracelet that’s part of a set that Tim made for the five of them when they first started working in the archives together. It’s poorly made and broke long ago, but Lottie still keeps it in a little jewelry box and would break down if she ever lost it.

Lottie Carthold ᯽ Something Wicked (This Way Comes)
Lottie had never once regretted taking her job at the Magnus Institute. Sure, the old place had sort of a terrible reputation among other academic institutions, but the pay was great considering her job was just to catalogue and sort books and studies on supernatural phenomena in the Institute’s library, and as someone who had often escaped into horrifying tales as a child to distract herself from the very real horror of living with her parents, the whole thing felt more or less like her dream profession. Plus, working in the Institute’s library had brought her Martin Blackwood, her sort-of boyfriend with the sweet smile and best-made cups of tea she’d ever had. Even after Lottie and Martin find themselves transferred to work in the Institute’s archives, Lottie is determined to find the best in her situation. Sure, her new boss is a snide bitch of a skeptic, and the archives themselves are in a terrible state of disorganization, but they also have a gorgeous, clever former artifact researcher and a total goofball with a love for pranks, and she gets to do some actual in-field investation. Only, some of those investigations seem to be pointing towards a larger conspiracy, something overarching hidden in the archive’s mountains of files. And they’re being stalked by an Eldritch horror worm lady who Lottie had punched in the face to save Martin. And there’s still the mystery surrounding the dead of the former Head Archivist, and whether, as Lottie suspects, the extremely odd head of the Institute has anything to do with it. Maybe Lottie does regret taking this job a bit.

All the fandom meta questions for loml Gage Gothel??
What do you think the fandom for your character would be like? Are they a fan favorite, a love to hate villain, derided for whatever reason, or something else?
OHHHHH A FAN FAVORITE THROUGH AND THROUGH. at the end of the day, gage is pure comic relief with a tragic backstory who's kind of a bitch but still a good guy. and he's GAY. that kind of character is GOOD FOR THE SOUL. like yes gage can be kind of shitty/annoying at times but more than anything he is silly and loveable.
What feelings does your character most often instill in their fans? Affection? A desire to protect? Open lust? A love/hate dynamic? Why do you think their fans feel this way?
the spectrum would run from like. pure affection (that is my son, i am wrapping him in a blanket and taking care of him, here are the adoption papers) to love/hate (i love that stupid fucking twink. i need him obliterated.) like a lot of people would love him to death but emphasis on death. they need to squish that guy like a bug. does this make sense. they hate to love him, they wish they could hate him.
By contrast, what would their haters dislike about your character? Is it a petty complaint? A mischaracterization of the character or their intentions? Are they just a woman in a largely male-centric series?
gage gothel get behind me i'll fight the haters. no but fr i think a lot of people would call him selfish (he is), especially bc of like. chad love interest. even though he's The Worst TM (this is coming from a chad stan but i understand it). he's also a HUGE hater and at times kind of a brat (when he digs his heels in refusing to help, most of the time when he doesn't want to go to the isle and possibly see his mother), and at times even has manipulative/narcissistic behaviors. he's desperately trying to reel those in tho
What controversies/drama would your character incite in fandom?
hmmm i do think him ending up with chad would be controversial i can't lie. mostly bc of how dirty chad did evie in the first movie. and like. evie is his friend. kind of a shitty thing to do (even though evie canonically dgaf). and i KNOW some people would be out there trying to police his moral compass....... bc it's more of a random number generator than an actual compass. he's trying his best okay!!!
What fan-material would exist for your character in fandom?
oh video edits out the WAZOO. and fics he's the first one i've answered this for where i feel like he'd be a fanfic Darling. probably a little bit of everything else too!!
Is your character the subject of ‘imagines’ or ‘x reader’ style blogs?
probably a few but not many bc i don't think those Really exist in the descendants fandom?? especially not for a canonically gay character
Are there any tropes fandom would put upon your character, for better or for worse?
he'd so get the 'camp gay' edit. mal's funky gay best friend. sometimes they'd turn up his bitchiness by 3 million percent and make him just really really mean. as for like fics he and chad would def get hit with like. arranged marriage and fairytale/disney movie aus (a cinderella au with them WOULD eat i can't even lie). my personal fave for them that i have is a merlin au so i can only manifest that in this alternate universe <3
What would be the ‘incorrect but wildly popular’ interpretation of your character in fandom?
again, mean campy gay KFNFNLFLN genuinely him falling into the gay best friend stereotype. which is his NIGHTMARE btw.
What corners of fandom would consider your character blorbo material?
everyone with taste!!! i think there are a lot of descendants fans especially currently that like Complex Narratives and they would EAT GAGE UP. but also like. chad fandom, audrey fandom, fuck it even mal fandom.
