adeline had been having a fairly good day, all things considered. sheâd woken up on time for work, had little to no trouble on the subway and had spent her day executing orders to perfection without missing a beat. she shouldâve known that her string of good luck wouldnât last long, but still hadnât anticipated the rag to slip from her grip just in time for the hot steam of the milk frother to wreak hell all over her skin, causing her to jump back and yelp in pain, âson of a bitchâ she hissed, rushing around the counter and holding her hand to her chest as she attempted to move past the anguish the burn was causing her. without really thinking, she grabbed a napkin and emptied a half drunken iced latte onto it, scooping up the ice to hold it against her pink, aggravated skin. she was in her own bubble, relishing in the relief she felt when she suddenly noticed someone sitting at the table she was leaning over. âoh-â she breathed, shooting them an apologetic glance, âthat wasnât your drink, was it?â

Coffee was an essential during an average day, whether Marceline was working or not, she couldnât live without it. Seeing the blonde without her daily intake of caffeine wasnât the prettiest sight, and she truly couldnât subject innocent people to her uncaffeinated wrath. It wasnât unusual sight to see her at the counter, fully immersed in whatever was playing on her phone screen.
The sound of a small screech garnered her attention, her baby blue hues zeroing in the petite waitress ahead of her. She was just about to offer her sympathy before they grabbed hold of her iced coffee, the light brown liquid falling against inflamed flesh. âI was just about toââ There was no reason for her to be mad, even if she really wanted to finish her drink. Oh well. She had all the time in the world to order another one. âUh... yeah, it was, but you know what? Itâs fine. I just hope it eased the pain a bit.â
