First full preview! . First rounded @art_resin piece! . This is the second of a new series utilizing abstract techniques and a new mold process that allows for greater visibility into the layers. . This fits me, ask my friends. I believe that in order to grow we must remain open. That can be painful and worrying, and it can be inspiring and emotionally uplifting. The best long game usually happens if it’s all of the above. . I hope you like it :) . @art_resin and mixed media on 10x14 @trekell_art_supplies woodpanel. This is the second in my new series that began with “Mother Mary.” It is my first rounded work. . Tap to buy, and I will have this available at #illuxcon . @surrealismartcommunity #surrealismartcommunity #artlovers #resinlife #newcontemporaryart #buyartwork #resin #portrait #bestdm #academic_artworks @academic_artworks #heydanielmaidman #swsfeature #heydidi #bizarrepoet @ellohype #elloartist https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo9B3b6jWok/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=33fhpxn7wrb4

A look at the thickness on “A Midnight Train” 5x7x about 3.5 Gold leaf, mixed media, @art_resin Available through @havengallery Life is complicated and messy. The edges aren’t clean. The layers stack up and make sense from a few angles, or none. Somehow all of this always adds up to something. #contemporaryart #newcontemporary #artist #surrealismartcommunity

Just in time for #comiccon and a visit from a good friend. This is Jean Grey, Phoenix, of the X-Men. And a story. 8 years ago @dandossantos_art invited me to an art retreat with some of the most badass painters in the land. I was brand new, didn’t even realize the ability in the room I was so green. I asked everyone to sketch on small cards and we would give them to Dan as a thank you for organizing the trip. When I saw what everyone else was doing I felt so embarrassed. No way could I sketch anything worthy. I didn’t say anything but when I gave Dan the cards, I kept mine back. I kept the card and occasionally doodled on it. Nothing felt good enough. For years. I didn’t throw it away, but I lost track of the card amidst scraps and art supplies. Late one night while cleaning the studio I found the card. The actual card. I had an idea and it felt like the right one. So, from the ashes of a moment of crippling self-doubt, rises this small piece. A small thank you for an invitation that changed my life in ways I can’t possibly list here. And a circle finally complete. This is @art_resin and #ink and mixed media on one 8 year old tiny piece of card stock. #inktober #resin #xmen #jeangrey #phoenix Thanks Dan :) (at Clinton Hill, Brooklyn)

Airport sake leads to Instagram art giveaway. On August 23rd, after my return home to Brooklyn, I will give away one of my travel sketches. I have been having an amazing trip and am cramming in sketches everywhere I go (SWIPE to see the ramen ordering machine and a few more I haven't posted yet). This 40th birthday trip has truly reinvigorated my sketch practice and I want to share my good feelings! It's true that en route to Bangkok I let the waiter select a sake for me and I think he took liberties with the size. However, rest assured my inspiration is from the heart. RULES 1. Follow @marcscheff on Instagram 2. Share/repost this post on Instagram and mention @marcscheff and tag #travelsketchgiveaway 3. Multiple shares get multiple entries, including shares on other networks (at least one IG share required) That's it! I'll be posting more sketches here and will pick a winner on August 23rd. Thanks for sharing!

Crop of something new coming for @havengallery's "Mythos" show. “I found that I couldn't muster any belief in a literal heaven or hell, anyway. I thought the best we could all do was to look after one another and clean up the various hells we've made right here on earth.” ― Octavia E. Butler, Parable of the Talents Octavia Butler's "Parable of the Talents" is a dystopian prophecy. The quote below was written about an early 21st century presidential campaign. This quote was written in 1998. That would be 19 years ago. And it's not the only one. “Help us to make America great again.” ― Octavia E. Butler, Parable of the Talents
