I'd have to say that the demos for Young Lust and Sexual Revolution are my favourite at the moment, but the demo for Mother is very much up there. I think the final version of Mother is pretty powerful, in fact I cried a lot the first time I heard it, but if you compare the lyrics in the two versions, the final version is much more tame and soft. The final cut (teehee) of Mother addresses over protectiveness and not letting Pink date freely, while the demo version has lines like "Mama will burn all your pornography, she'll watch what you hear and she'll watch what you see" and I think that those old lyrics capture the essence of The Wall much better. They're uncomfortable, gritty, restricting, even more so than the actual lyrics and The Wall is supposed to be about a man addressing all of the uncomfortable truths in his life and becoming tangled in the feelings. It also hints at the wartime references that run all throughout Roger's writing, the limiting of informational input from the media. I also wonder, seeing that Pink is inspired a lot by Syd Barrett, if the Mother character is based on Syd's family, because I'm sure I've heard that they were all overly protective of him after he spiralled and they limited his contact with the band.

With a band that is as deep as it is wide like Pink Floyd, I am just constantly learning more things about them and their discography. I have learnt so much about The Wall demos, having listened to all of them as I far as I know, and this morning I found out that the wonderful, sleazy demo 'Sexual Revolution' which was not included in the final product of The Wall has been turned into a real song for one of Roger's solo albums, meaning that this incredible hidden song that pairs wonderfully with the demo of Young Lust was not just forgotten and it got the attention it deserved, though I still prefer the vocals of the demo at this moment in time
