The Solar Sisterhood and the Children of the Night, in their heyday were a force that was not to be trifled with.

While supposedly operating in secrecy, everypony knew it was unwise to speak ill of the two sisters so openly and brazenly should you find yourself in a dark alley at the wrong time of night. While never official recognized by the two sisters, the imperial cults wielded considerable influence on the innerworkings of the Equestrian government. In the years since the abdication of the diarchy, their power has waned. Their reach however is still vast.

Even stranger than the imperial cults however is their link to the Ministry of ██████ █████████ and ███████ █████, the last sorcerer.

Before she was usurped by Chrysalis, Queen Myxine's navy would occasionally engage in joint training exercises with Equestria's own navy. Sailors from both nations always seemed to get along well.

Pictured is Puerto Caballo, home to Equestria's largest naval base. It was and still is the favored destination of any sailor from the six continents.

"I sure hope it was worth it... doin' business with reds." For Equestria, the years leading up to the Great War were plagued by civil strife in the wake of the economic catastrophe unintentionally caused by a panicking Griffonian Empire. This was highlighted largely by the rise of both partisan groups and organized crime. It was bloody whenever the two came head to head, none more so than the feud between the griffon crime families of Whinny City and the Equestrian Red Army. Between the communist partisans, fascist sympathizers, the crime families, and the police, many of the major cities became warzones.

Pictured is CPL Ruby and (then) SSG Pepper. By late fall of 1019, the Changeling Army had advanced far enough south that they were a little less than 100 km from Manehattan.

Their advance was briefly halted in the small town of Rivi-au-Pas. The Equestrian Army attempted to stage a static defense here. However due to a failure to adequately disseminate vital military intelligence, the force deployed to the area was woefully ill-prepared to encounter an entire changeling armor brigade. Equestrian forces were quickly encircled and overrun. Though the changelings were eventually routed from Manehattan and the town was retaken months later, the Battle of Rivi-au-Pas is considered to be one of the biggest blunders in military history having nearly cost Equestria and her allies the whole war.

In the early hours of June 1st, 1019, Changeling Army Group .IV crossed the Equestrian border via the neighboring country of Kisberia, taking the Equestrian border garrisons by surprise. The residents of the town of Hooflow woke up to the sounds of tanks rolling by their windows and jackbooted changelings marching through their town square. The Great War had begun.
