Assessment 3
Final work + Statement.
According to the weekly topic that my group investigated in Assessment 2 which was experimentation
During Assessment 2 I was having questions in my mind.
The questions are:
How we can present the nature?
How can I understand the nature around me?
How we affect nature and integrate it with your life?
Can you have different, exciting, and stranger arts work from nature?
Those questions led me to create my final work for assessment 3 which it a different side for nature a dancer water on the leave.
First, I started this assessment with experiment what around me from nature I tried experiment different material from the nature and divide them according to shape, colors, and characteristics. until I reached to the relationship between water and the leaves and how some leaves resists water and some of them not, during that I discovered a distinctive leave  located in the front garden to my house which can resists water and keep it on the surface.
Process:
Since I had my idea’s I was thinking how I can explain it very well, I used around three cameras from different angles to capture the motion of the water, I edited it with premiere pro than. I was needed to play around with the lights to give it more depth and suit with the idea, I played with Brightness, Color Balance, Hue, Curves and Gradient fill in the After Effects software. After given the video the perfect lights and make more light on the water than anything else in the video to let the audience focused on it more.
After that, I was wanted to have the perfect sounds that proportionality the motion of the water I play around with my library the sounds I had recorded it before also I used some of the loops that come with my software Garage Band.
My work presents the nature beauty that dancing on the sound of nature

the concepts were looking at how nature is composed within our urban environments and about consumerism. Examples are the lights in our trees, how the trees themselves may be natural, but they were planted for a specific reason in that spot and the lights are totally man made. even look at the food photos and be like how the chicken is natural contrasting the things around it and the consumerist market.

Assessment Task Two: Time-based Collaborative Project
11. Plant Movement
This frame combined the film techniques of stop motion and timelapse to create an effect of plants taking over negative space. This experiment conducted by Mariam comments on the central conceptual idea of nature vs man. The negative space occupied by an unnatural “whiteness” is reclaimed by the plant as it fills the screen. Utilising computer software as depicted above, Mariam’s experimentation, therefore appropriates the use of plants and nature to create and occupy space as seen in the chosen work.

Assessment Task Two: Time-based Collaborative Project
8. Science Experiment: Floral Typography
Materials:
Selection of Plastic Flowers- sculpting material for words
White Foam Board- background
Camera & Tripod- for documentation
Adobe Lightroom- photo editing- lighting and angles
Adobe Photoshop- GIF compilation
Aim:
For this experiment, we posed a number of questions that we intended to explore, including:
“AM I STILL A PLANT EVEN THOUGH I AM PLASTIC?” which was the physical question that was spelled out with flower petals
To what extent do manufactured/man-made flowers imitate and replace natural flowers in an art practice and in general society?
Do these flower petals offer an authentic imitation of natural flowers?
Hypothesis:
Once documented and edited into a GIF, the plastic flowers will offer a satisfactory imitation of natural flowers.
Method:
Decide on question that will be spelled out using plastic flowers
Situate white foam board in a brightly-lit area and place Camera and tripod above board so that the frame encompasses all of the white board.
De-assemble plastic flowers from their original bunches and stems, cutting up individual petals on larger flowers.
To determine how large each letter needs to be in order to fit within the camera focus/frame, create a test word “AM” and view through camera lens.
Once appropriate letter size has been determined, spell out each word of question “AM I STILL A PLANT EVEN THOUGH I AM PLASTIC?”, individually, taking photos once each word has been assembled, and then sweep the petals and flowers off the board, starting again with a new word and blank slate.
When all words have been assembled and documented, load photos onto laptop and edit the lighting and angle of each word to be uniform, using Adobe Lightroom
Once photos of words are edited, upload into Adobe Photoshop and edit into a GIF.
This GIF will later be compiled into the finished artwork, which involves a selection of experiments in an atypical grid formation.
Conclusion:
Similar to the artist example, this experiment also used flowers and leaves to create images and patterns; however, rather than creating a portrait, the plastic flowers that were cut up were used to ask a question “AM I STILL A PLANT EVEN THOUGH I AM PLASTIC?”. This experiment explored the practice of imitating nature through man- made materials, which was one of the questions previously posed. The hypothesis, which concerned the question of whether the plastic flower petals used offer an authentic and satisfactory imitation of natural flowers, was proven correct.

Artist Statement for Studio Gateway Assessment Task Two: Time-based Collaborative Project
The artist example that our group chose to respond to was “COFA1001 2015 Collaborative Experimental Portrait”, which documented a portrait made of found natural materials; and was taken against a paved brick backdrop. As this was a student work, we were unable to identify the specific maker. This example was found within the weekly topic of Experimentation.
Although it seems that the original intentions of the image were to capture the experimental nature portrait, we decided as a group to extend our understanding of the work to encompass not only the subject, but also the background; which allowed us to formulate our response: How does the urban/industrial world interact, imitate, and destroy the natural world?
Experimentation is primarily used to formulate questions and seek answers. In relation to our weekly topic, we decided to extend our chosen artist example by ways of formulating a number of related questions to explore, and to deconstruct its structural elements; altering it to suit the requirements of a time-based final artwork.
The purpose of conducting multiple experiments for compilation was to explore the concepts and questions formulated from the artist example and weekly topic, from multiple angles and through different materials and techniques.
The final time-based artwork was made up of a selection of frames in the forms of video files, timelapse and GIF’s. In order to create a satisfactory selection of frames to compile into the final artwork, a number of experiments were conducted collaboratively. A number of frames required preparation prior to being assembled in group meetings, these preparations were completed individually and then brought in and worked on. Although each experiment was created with the intention of being compiled in the final time-based grid format, the experiments can also stand on their own.
A further structural element of sound was laid over the final time-based artwork, using a selection of sound files both created by Mariam, who recorded wind, bird, water and paper sounds; as well as sourced from the software used: Garageband, which included an ‘Afghanistan Sand Rabab’ and an 'African Rain track’.
From the numerous frames we created, the following analog & digital techniques were used: Paper cutting, Shadow Box, Paper collage, Origami, Crayon melting, flower arrangement, typography, Photography, Film, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effect, GIF’s, Timelapse, GarageBand.
(Further information on the materials and process of each experiment frame can be viewed in their respective tumblr posts)
