In Rodolivos and in the villages of the mountain Pangaio, the barrel where the grapes were pressed was called “Kourito”. This name apparently came from the Kouretes (deities of the mountain) and they had to do with the guarding of the god Dionysus in his infant age, from the hatred of Hera. The old inhabitants of the area gave this name to the barrel because it protects the favorite drink of Dionysus, the wine.
In Rodolivos the cultivation of the vine has been going on for many centuries. All the inhabitants of the area have knowledge about the grapes and the products produced from it. For example the ritselia, the mustalevria, the petimezi, the sweet grapes and also even the leaves of the vine that the housewives use to make the well known “sarmadakia”. And of course wine and tsipouro!
The first day of the festival, the Cultural Association offers the Pangaio tea to all the women of the village. After that it follows a small feast with traditional dances. It is a call to the god Dionysus to leave the high peaks of Pangaio for a while and to join the people in this celebration.
