Material Memory
Olga Balema Etienne Chambaud Anne de Vries Nicola Martini Maria Taniguchi
January 23 - March 8, 2014
Fluxia is pleased to announce Material Memory, a group exhibition with new and existing art works by Olga Balema, Etienne Chambaud, Anne De Vries, Nicola Martini and Maria Taniguchi.
Memory should be here understood in a spectrum that exceeds the dualism between internal, soft, cerebral human memories and externalized, mechanized hard data.
In the world of objects, what we consider is both the individual or cultural imprinting left by human beings in the formalization of their artifacts and the information that materials and matter formations carried out independently from any potential human usage.
Like a body memory diffused outside of a central brain in scattered cells, with no insurance that any recollection might be able to combine them in a constructed and meaningful image, the art works in this exhibition venture in this extended spectrum.
From the depths of an ice cave to the rising tracks of sneakers, from unstable chemical reactions to the image of a wall, Material Memory should be seen as a spatial index of formations, formalizations and information.
