Today I introduced my sister to “the problem of Susan” and I had to explain to her that Susan was left out of Narnia cuz she liked boys and lipstick now and without missing a beat she said but what about Peter? Does Peter not like girls? And I knew she was pointing out the inherent misogyny at the center of the “the problem of Susan” but the implications of that question are a source of much hilarity to meeee LMFAO like Does Peter not like girls? Does he like boys? Is he Gay? Is Narnia really just a homo-utopia where Lucy is also a lesbian and Edmund is a bisexual disaster and Susan was kicked out cuz she was too straight??? Can I make CS Lewis turn over in his grave with this new reading?

Just read that someone’s neighbour was playing “Tattoo” and someone else started blasting “Cha Cha Cha” even louder.

One thing I still wanted to say about Käärijä is that I don’t think Eurovision should be only about music. Cha Cha Cha is a song that feels like it was almost taylor made to be a fan favorite at Eurovision.

It’s catchy but not generic. It’s simple but it’s still got an edge to it. It’s in Finnish but no matter your native language you can still sing to it. The performance has a great energy all throughout and it utilizes the whole stage. The outfits are instantly recognizable both in color and silhouette. Not to mention the way they presented Käärijä off-stage and on social media…

I guess I’m just tired of pretending like all that is somehow easy to do. Like that isn’t a skill comparable to like writing a pop song. And I’m not trying to say that Loreen didn’t deserve to win. Clearly she is super talented and had her own merits. It’s just frustrating to see so many people treating her merits as somehow intrinsically more valuable just because they’re serious and therefore give the song a veneer of meaning.

Cha Cha Cha also has an inherently funny premise: screaming “Cha Cha Cha” is unexpected and just funny. But most importantly, that humor translates to every language. The theme this year was United by Music. To me that kind of language transcending humor is exactly what unity through music means.

I'm taking driving lessons in Finland, and yesterday during my lesson Cha cha cha came twice on the radio so I put the volume up, but then the Swedish song came on and my teacher straight up changed the channel 😂
