Nixie had actually cleaned their house whenever Marie was supposed to come over. They had wanted to make a good impression on the sheriff, especially since they didn’t have many friends. In the dining room, they had set up a whole station for cutting, sewing, and customizing clothes. To the side, they had a whole set up for tie dye or bleaching. With a knock at the door, they walked over and opened it. “I hope you brought a lot of clothes.”
Marie had wiped through half of her wardrobe before heading over to Nixie’s. She wasn’t about to go over there with one or two pieces of clothing - she’d rather they didn’t get to it all than to run out. Some of the things she’d tossed out right away, others she’d kept for the other to work some magic on. “Oh please, I would never disappoint.” She chuckled, gesturing to the large bag she’d brought with her. “I hope you have enough ideas to get through them all.”

Franklin closed his eyes. She said that he could always tell her about what was happening, but could he? He knew of her past, but what about her potential future? “You were attacked that night, right?” His breathing picked up as he waited for her answer. “By something you had never seen?”
Marie swallowed hard at his question, the memories of that night still haunting her nightmares, certain that they would do until she was able to find exactly what it was that attacked her. “Yeah, I have no idea what it was. Nasty though. I called animal control with a description and they just... laughed me off the phone. Even the gun shots didn’t frighten it off.”

“I’ll make sure that he knows all of that.” Elenore smiled softly at the sheriff. “How are you doing with all of this? It can’t be easy.” She asked, hoping that the woman would give her more information.
Marie took a deep breath at the other question unsure how best to answer it. She didn’t even know how she was coping, whether she was even coping. “It’s just... very busy. It’s not easy, I can tell you that for nothing. But it can’t be easy for those who lost their loved one.”

“At least I can listen to decent music,” she said with a laugh. Most of the time, she tuned out the music in the diner, preferring to keep the songs stuck in her mind playing on repeat. “But the company would be nice.”
“There is that. This diner music must get pretty boring for you after a while, huh?” Marie chuckled, though she didn’t mind it. She much preferred background noise to complete silence. “Well company I can promise you. I can’t say it’ll be good company, but company nonetheless.”

“Drunk.” Franklin answered with a nod. He shook his head at her next question. “No, I did something…” He didn’t know what else to say. “The night of the third, it was a mistake.”
"You know you can always talk to me if you need to about these things.” Marie offered a small smile, her words meant as a friend more than as a sheriff. Having lost her own father, she knew how hard it could be, even if she hadn’t lost hers in the same way Franklin had his. “What happened?” She asked, the night of the third etched in her own memory, the night that she got attacked. If Franklin hadn’t been near the house then it would explain why he perhaps hadn’t heard her scream for help.

“Is there anything I can tell him? He’s really missing his uncle.” The lies were slipping off of Elenore’s tongue with ease. She didn’t mind telling the lies, but it felt weird that she was spying on the mayor.
"Only that we truly are doing everything in our power to find out what happened. That’s really all the news that I have, and I can’t give updates to many people.” Marie assured her, although the other did seem to be concerned. “Just encourage him to come to me if he has any concerns. Or if he knows anythng.”

“No, you needed to be there.” Franklin said with a weak smile. He knew that the sheriff was the most important person at that crime scene. Without Marie, there was no hope in finding who killed his father. “It was… Though I’ll admit, I was too drunk to remember much.”
There were a lot of things that Marie wished that she could change, and that was certainly one of them. She should have been there more for Franklin as a friend, rather that put her job first the way that she had done. “Drunk?” she asked, not missing her opportunity to be the friend to him she should have been before. “Are you still drinking a lot, Franklin?”

“Then don’t be shocked if I sneak some.” Nixie joked. They had their own alcohol stash if they wanted some, but getting drunk when DIY’ing clothes didn’t seem like a good choice. “Or maybe I’ll be good.”
"You better be good, like you said, I’m the best sheriff this town’s had.” She teased, using the others words against them to make sure. “I can’t be witnessing laws be broken, they’ll exile me and you’ll be back having some awful sheriff.”

“And risk getting the best sheriff this town has ever had in trouble? Here I was thinking I’m a good person.” Nixie placed their hand on their chest. “Or maybe sparkling juice?”
Marie let out a laugh. “I’m not sure about the best sheriff, but I appreciate the sentiment.” Her eyes rolled playfully at the other, before nodding. “Sparkling juice it is. But I might bring a little something for me and me only. It’s hard work being the best sheriff.”

“I could go without that.” Franklin made a face at the thought of pumpkin soup. His mother always won the Fall Festival with hers, but he hated the stuff more than anything. “Are you doing okay? I understand why you did what you did?”
Marie wasn’t sure how to answer his first question. She didn’t know if she was okay, the soreness from her shoulder causing her more issues than she’d anticipated. “I still should have done it myself. I was a coward.” Opting to go straight to the latter remark, she still felt guilty about not being the one to deliver such sad news to her friend. “The funeral was lovely. As lovely as these things can be, I mean.”

Elenore sat down, crossing her legs under the table. “I’m close with Hunter. He’d never come over and ask.” It wasn’t a lie, but at the same time it seemed strange. “Elenore Mendoza.”
Marie nodded her head as soon as the other mentioned Hunter, but she herself didn’t know him well enough to pry, or second guess if it was true. She was doubting everything around her currently. “Good to meet you, Elenore. But I can’t talk too much about what is still an open investigation. You know how these things can be.”

“You’d bring wine to an underage person?” Nixie asked with a smile. “Well, well sheriff. I’d absolutely love some, but isn’t it illegal?”
Marie let out a small laugh. “I’d say I was testing you, but I didn’t realise. Shot yourself in the foot there, if you hadn’t mentioned it I would have brought wine without question. Sprite it is.”

franklin-marsh:
The familiar scent of Marie made Franklin’s skin flush in a way that most people would perceive as embarrassment. The sheriff was alive, but he turned to look at her. She looked like someone who had been attacked by a lycanthrope. His heart began to pound. Her scent wasn’t changed, but he knew that it wouldn’t be until after the moon, if he had actually bitten her.
Other than that night, Franklin’s last meeting with her, he had been drunk. Incredibly drunk. “I’m sure the pumpkins will come through here shortly.” He closed his eyes and took a breath. “I’m really sorry, Marie.” His apology wasn’t just for the diner, but the attack. He hadn’t meant to hurt her, to change her, but would she even know what he had done?
Marie’s mouth offered Franklin a small smile, while her eyes still had a sadness behind them. She hoped that this encounter wasn’t going to end the same way the other had, with raised voices, a screaming match with her friend (she hoped he was still her friend) the last thing she really wanted. “I hope so. Can’t go wrong with a pumpkin soup either.” She paused as he apologised, taking a deep breath. “I’m sorry too. You were right. I should have come and told you myself. It was selfish of me not to, not when you’ve been through so much. You should have heard it from me and not the uniforms I sent up to the house.”

Upon hearing that Marie may have been turned into a lycanthrope, Elenore had been asked to keep an eye on the sheriff. It was strange, spying on the one person who could easily catch her. She felt the need to stop watching from a distance and go up to the woman. “Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you had any leads on the death of Mr. Marsh?”
Marie hadn’t been into the station for a few days, still working on recovering from whatever creature had attacked her the night she went back up to the crime scene. She’d had the files sent to her apartment to try and work on it from home, but it didn’t have the same impact when she was laying on her couch in pain. She was meant to be going in to pick up some more information, but was disturbed by the voice of the other. “Nothing that I am allowed to discuss at the moment.” She confirmed, her eyebrows pulling into a frown. “Are you a friend of the family? I don’t recognise you.”

“If you’re still here, I might definitely take you up on that. Usually, I just eat in my car.” It wasn’t that she enjoyed eating in her car, but it made it easier for her to take her full break.
“Okay well I definitely can’t let you eat in your car, that’s not fair on you.” Marie said with a small smile, knowing that as much as she didn’t want to be around a lot of people at the minute, she couldn’t allow the other to spend her break in her car. “I won’t even disturb you, but I can’t let you sit in the car.”

“Thursday night?” Nixie asked with a smile. “I can get all of the DIY stuff by then. Amazon Prime is a life saver.”
“Works for me!” Marie grinned, a small laugh following quickly. “Oh god it’s saved my skin on a number of occasions. Usually birthday’s I’ve forgotten about.” she confessed, a guilty look filling her face. “I’ll get wine and snacks and we should be all set.”
