1 :: welcome to paradise

OKAY HI, the first chapter omg i’m so excited!! the title of this chapter was inspired by “welcome to paradise” by green day!! it’s on the playlist, so check it out if you’d like (: remember to vote, let me know your thoughts on this chapter at the end, thank you!!

“connie, you can’t lie to the IRS. they’re going to know if you lie about how much you’ve spent when you do taxes.”

with a loud sigh, you brush off connie’s last statement, mentally thanking the universe that he doesn’t have to start doing taxes until next year. listening to him talk about this had you losing brain cells by the second. you loved connie, truly, & would do anything for him, but sometimes las pendejadas that came out of his mouth had you questioning your love and patience for him.

when you were at the age of five, your parents decided to pick up everything they thought was valuable and move to the united states. this was when you became connie’s next-door neighbor & eventually, his best friend. you didn’t know how to speak english, but it did not stop connie from wanting to hang out with you, to him, you were the coolest person ever, simply because you spoke spanish. even though he was so young, connie was very patient with you, he never got mad at you because you didn’t understand him, he knew it was hard for you already have moved to a foreign country where your mother tongue wasn’t spoken by everyone. he wanted you to feel comfortable in your new environment, so even at his small age, he did everything in his power to do so. it wasn’t long before you began picking up on the english language, you were young, with going to school & connie helping you as much as he could, you quickly began understanding.

you and connie were inseparable, glued at the hip at all times, like two peas in a pod. your parents and his mom thought it was cute how close you both were & at some point began believing you both would date when you became older. this of course, was not the case, as a few years passed it became very clear to everyone that what you and connie had was strictly platonic. you both viewed & treated each other like siblings, it went as far as you both claiming you were blood siblings to people who didn’t know you. of course, not many believed you for you both had quite distinctive features, but it didn’t matter to you both, you were children.

peace of mind wasn’t something you can use to explain for how you felt with iwaizumi, at least not anymore. the nights the two of you would share ever so often, once he had started to train the team for the olympics— that's when it had fallen apart.

you spent nights at home, the bed empty with just you lying in it with his pillow that held his scent in your embrace. the video calls daily had become to none, the messages of spamming each other when you can had also become so empty.

it felt like living with a stranger, how cold it has felt for months but he would acknowledge you. how couldn’t he, you were his first love.

but it’s called first for a reason.

listening to the clicks of the doorknob unlocking to allow the other resident inside made you flinch from the couch. the door from the outside had expanded into the living room then had shut out when he closed the door behind him.

iwaizumi looked at your curled up form, “ i’m home. “

if he were any honest, it still hurt him to see you in such a state but he couldn’t bring himself to hurt you more than he has. especially when he has done the despicable towards you.

you turned to face him, the dark circles under your eyes had framed the dull eyes that once brightened at the sight of him. but what surprised him was the fact that you allowed him to see you with tears on your face.

he knew that you cried behind the walls that he sat in, but never up front.

you sat up before launching yourself onto him with your arms around his neck, his hands instinctively finding themselves at your waist. you weren’t naive to the feminine scent that lingered on his clothing ever so often— but you were a fool to stay but would also be one if you were to leave him.

“ just hold me tonight. “ you whispered into the embrace. he felt your soft breaths against his neck and knew that you can find the evidence of another woman on him but didn’t say anything.

iwaizumi knew that the mention would hurt you more than you were aware of. although having you within his arms once again made every sense of guilt run down his body and clench his chest with hatred.

not towards you but himself, that he allowed you to hurt— not even properly either. sadly, he wasn’t going to stop hurting you either, that’s why he had hate for himself.

tightening his arms around your waist to secure you against his larger frame, “ okay. “

iwaizumi patted the back of your thigh, signaling you to jump and you did so. he took you to the bedroom that you two once shared long ago.

placing you down into the mattress, he lied next to you and pulled you to his chest. you can hear the intense rapid pace of his pulse hammering against his ribs, that the first time within months— you were back in his arms.

you never asked him what he was up to or where he was been, nor did you ever confront him about what you had caught onto.

he knew why, of course he knew why.

“ are you comfortable? “

“ no, but it’s this or nothing. “

iwaizumi looked down at you, caressing the back of your head with his large palm and stared at the beauty that he had ruined. the tears staining your cheeks with your lips parted from the small sobs you’d release.

just a little was what you were asking for, he can give it to you— just not forever. one day, it has to stop before it becomes an unhealthy routine for you to hold yourself hostage in these walls you used to call home that held nothing but just aching pain.

feeling your breaths slowly grow faint, he assumed you’d fallen asleep to the arms that you missed residing in.

he narrowed his eyes at the ceiling, with a whisper not expecting a response, “ why do you put yourself through this? “

closing his eyes to go into the sleep state like you, his chest clenched when he heard your small voice that had felt it’s loudest since the last time you two have spoken, “ because i still love you even when you don’t. “

his breath bitched at your next words, “ i know i’m not your only.. “ you halted, gripping his clothing with your forehead resting in his chest to avoid his intense gaze. “ but at least i’m one. “

just a little bit of his heart was all you were asking for.
