Tbf I feel like it's a fact well acknowledged that for a large proportion of heterosexual men and women, a s/o or a spouse is just something they want so they can show it off to people of the same gender, or something they idealize in the abstract as the thing that will solve all their problems and give them a place to belong without ever considering whether the person they're eyeing as a partner is willing/able to be that ideal, it'd be nice if there was more drama focusing on those realities.
