I love the juxtaposition of this piece. I also appreciate the muted colors on the left, with you being more clear on the right. It adds an element of call and response to me.

I appreciate the movement included within this series. Even though it's a photo series, I feel, as a viewer, that I am watching this happen in motion.

Good Talk: Project 5
This piece was directly inspired by a quote from "Good Talk" where Mira Jacob is sharing how exhausting it is to feel like she has to be thankful for everything: her life, being published, racist comments. I found this quote particularly poignant and wanted to create a piece that played off the graphic novel style of comment bubbles, while also creating a piece that just amplified Mira Jacob's work and experience.
I chose to create a rather simple piece, with a simple background and simple color, while also using a chalk-esque tool to highlight the anger and messiness of the emotion being expressed. I also chose to curl all the words into a tight ball in one speech bubble, to highlight the feeling of everything being too much and anger feeling uncontainable and exhausting. This piece is exhausting to try to read, and that was intentional.

For this piece, I wanted to play on the concept of comfort, vulnerability, faćades, and queerness through bed and home as metaphor. As layers are slowly removed, what is revealed is a body without clothing--- in its natural state.

I really like this one a whole lot. I like the subject matter, and I like the back and forth mirroring/opposition between old clips of women as submissive/quiet and newer clips of women showing emotion/speaking/being alive. I love it!

For this project, I wanted to explore media representations of the cultural phenomena of witches--- this piece explores conflicting concepts of what a witch is, it's significance, and binaries of race, gender, and sexuality and the demonization of women.

This series was edited so precisely that I thought you had just taken pictures of real places. I like this duality of natural and built. Nice job.

I like this one! I like the redaction of the background along with the face in this one---it's creepy and lacking space (in space?).

I really enjoy the repetition of eyes in this series... Very well done. This series is rather hyperrealistic (almost but not quite real) to me and spooky, while also being very normal. This conflict for me makes this series really captivating. Question is if the inclusion of the mirror makes for a good break in repetition, or if a series with all eyes would be more powerful. I'm undecided...

I thought a lot about water being the main life source on earth and the fact that we treat it so poorly (the proverb:“When the last tree is cut, the last river poisoned, and the last fish dead, we will discover that one cannot eat money…”) as well as like the ideas of innocence and the way that we see the world so I combined images of eyes with water. There are a lot of parts even in polluted water that seem beautiful at first and in the eyes of naivety, there will only be the beautiful parts but that doesn’t mean that the ugly doesn’t exist and there are people who will want to fix it. All of these pictures were from the same river at different parts where it pools and holds onto the trash that people throw into the river. I initially went on a walk with my friend who had never been on that trail before. He is quite the optimist and kept talking about how beautiful it was while there were people visibly suffering underneath every bridge we walked under and the water was tangled with old clothes and trash caked in mud. I wanted to work with negative space especially when it comes to eyes and faces but I ended up wanting to fill that space for an intentional message.

I like the inkblot abstractness of your series--- that some parts are almost recognizable and others are not. These together make an interesting and captivating series!

Sometimes when you stare at the world long enough, your vision gets blurry, and suddenly you're not staring at the world anymore. Suddenly there are just shapes. You can change the world by not even moving. For this one, I didn't even notice the black at first but then as I looked again, I found it and noticed it. I realize that a lot of the 2D art I make is aesthetically pleasing or it has to "look good." The original photos are an example of this as they all are clear, focused, and the lighting is pleasant. I wanted to make something more post-modern and more focused on experimenting without perfectionism.

I like the commentary on binaries that are apparent in this series. Additionally, in many of the pairs there is a structural similarity even within their duality or opposition to each other.

“Man Vs Mother Nature”
Man Vs Mother Nature is a series of ten photos, some black and white and some color. This series of work explores the concept of an allegorical masculine figure (industrial) versus that of a feminine allegorical figure (natural).
There seems to be a divine feminine aspect to the natural world including fertility, delicacy, strength and beauty. I see nature as a self portrait. I am and we all are delicate strong and beautifully feminine.
On the contrary is industrial. Unnatural, structured, destructive and powerful. This masculine allegorical figure exists within my mind because of these qualities.
There is design, beauty and art in both man and mother. As well as similarities and differences. I often wonder if the two can coexist; what potential does each image hold; will man be overcome by nature or nature overcome by man.

I like the personality and relatability of this series.
The Disappearing Act
During my childhood my family was never the type to say "I love you" or express the word love by a kiss on the cheek or a hug. We've always expressed it by actions. For this project I decided to go for the word love as the main subject, and when I think of love I think of a heart. In every picture you'll see everything I love and with my hand forming a half a heart or a whole heart. I also did all these pictures at my house surrounded with the people I love and the things I love, such as I love the sunset, I see every evening in my driveway, I love sunflowers, I love my boyfriend, my best friend and my nephew. Love is infinite ♾️

I like this concept and the execution of it. I like the sense of time included in this series, as well as the "impending doom" feeling I'm getting from looking at it. It reads almost like a film to me.

"Athazagoraphobia"
Project One: Disappearing Acts
Throughout my photography career, body image and insecurity have been one of my main focuses. The idea behind this series is the disappearance of self. The fear that as time goes on, you'll just begin to disappear. That who you are as a person, and how you impacted society would just begin to fade into nothingness. I made this series black and white, because I wanted to bring attention to the nothingness and the fear. Taking color out of an image does that. It brings a sense of sadness and fear.

This is a great example of art that is socially and environmentally engaged--- you took the prompt of the walk and made it an act of service (upkeep?). I like the rhythm and repetition of the photos. I like the idea of starting with a photo of an empty bag, and ending with the photo you have. Great job.
