Isaac's father, Poul Clarke was always his biggest paragon and he hoped to become a skilled and sought engineer like him one day. Isaac has always been more of a daddy's boy, even though Poul was away a lot due to his work. He admired his dedication and skills.
When Isaac learned about his parent's dead and was prevented from seeing their bodies or inherit any of their possessions, he was mostly heartbroken about being unable to see his father or any of his works again.
Don't get me wrong though, he loved his mom too, but she was extremely unstable, dealing with severe depression that she likely refused to get therapy and medication for, which caused a shaky relationship with her very early on already. When Isaac was able to leave Earth and work as an engineer in space like his dad, he took that opportunity without any second-thoughts.
The thought if he could have prevented the outcome of their dead if he stayed on Earth does haunt him, but it is a underlying trauma that he pushed deep down, and now it is buried under so much stuff that he needs to deal with.

I imagine Isaac as an engineer/mechanic and John as a soldier/mercenary in alternate verses for simplicity's sake, but also because it's easy to translate parts of their upbringing and story to other verses. They're still THEM, but can be adjusted into different universes.
I guess I just like it if the canon character is still recognizable under all the new and foreign plots, but still fits into the other muse's world without things getting weird for both?
I definitely prefer canon divergent portrayals on both ends for wild and adventurous crossovers tho. Being too hung-up on canon and accuracy is just jarring to no end (and canon material often has stuff that just sucks). Also, I only watched playthroughs of the Dead Space games because I was too chicken to play them myself, so there's that =,)

🔧 — For your sake. Isaac has grown used to the unusual, maybe a little too much so, but there's still something so slightly unsettling about Karson and the way he makes it known that he's... not like him. These constant reminders as they go, they certainly don't help it either. What if the Hound stops caring either way and decides to just rest in a dead shuttle until arriving at the next civilisation?
But, the Engineer knows that nothing so far really warrants any of those ill thoughts about the other. Shaking his head, writing his paranoia off to the tense and stressful days without much rest, he descends to the engine room after just a nod and a mumbled "Thanks". Isaac keeps the inbuilt communication channel of his suit open, but remains quiet for a while.
As he eventually starts to calm down though, finally acknowledging that they are as save right now as they possible could be (given their circumstances), he breaks the silence between them. Only the subdued background-noise of screws getting drilled into a steely surface accompany his words. He is still working as he talks.
"I don't think I've managed to ask you before, but... did you get what you were looking for?" As far as it concerns Isaac, he is content knowing that the station and whatever gruesome secrets it held, is gone by now. They certainly profited from each other there, but, have they been on the station really for all the same reasons?
Karson hums in response as he tabs through data, waving away warnings big and small. He grimaces at whatever he's seeing, giving up on translating units of measure in favor of the shitty truth.
"We've got a few days of each other's company before we hit a partially decommissioned mining station. They're not so friendly to outsiders, but we should be able to refuel, get help, and be on our way without too much of a problem if you do more of the talking than me." He prizes his skull mask, but he's got an alternative way to veil his face- not out of vanity and not out of religious necessity, but simply because he knows it disturbs most organics. Hell, even his own kind. You go through life with a gaping hole where your nose should be, you're bound to get stares.
"Water supply should be fine, and I don't need it, so I'd say you're not in any danger- so long as we keep the ship held together." Karson enjoys food and drink, but it's not necessary for his kind. In emergencies, he'll lean on the starlight that keeps him alive instead and focus on helping his more mortal companion make it to pressurized safety. He can survive the void, inconvenient though it is.
The Order gave him a very specific mission with very unspecific reasoning. He's completing the tasks as planned, allying with whoever he needs to for his end goal. The one upside for Isaac? He's met one of the more reasonable Hounds. Karson, bottom of the ranks and unbothered with trying to change that, is more invested in a job done correctly than accolades for a job done in a showy fashion. He gets no pleasure in unnecessary bloodshed and is patient enough to work at the speed of a human without complaint.
"I'm going to work on fixing life support for your sake. You work on the engine systems, yeah?"

if you have "original characters do not interact" or some form of anti-original character language in your rules... you are weak and will not survive the winter. you're missing out on unbelievably inventive characters created by your deeply passionate peers. you're missing out on so many types of interactions and unique perspectives not found in current mainstream media and the content it produces. there are so many talented people in the rpc with amazing original characters, and you're just writing them off for no reason. what a shame.

I can’t help and think of his hunger, like, come on! He must have been starving!
2 years in stasis getting tortured and psychoanalysed by people that needed to get therapy themselves and also having to survive ANOTHER apocalypse? He had negative stomach. There was nothing in him. I can’t comprehend how he wasn’t a stick, easily blown away by wind.
what I am trying to get is that I wouldn’t have blamed Isaac had he decided to get a little snack in someone’s body. As a treat.

John loved his son dearly, but he couldn't handle his own emotions or Dylan's affection for him. The idea that Dylan wanted to be 'like his dad' terrified him, he was not a good person to be idolized or taken for as a example. He wanted to protect his son from the same terrible life he had, and of the dangers from it. But in the end, his constant distance and hostility didn't save Dylan and John realizes that he just should have been there for him instead.
As far as Isaac goes, he and Nicole had no plans of getting kids. They haven't been at the stage to talk in-depth about it though, but it was something they communicated and agreed upon right away due to their busy lifes when they started dating. Same later with Ellie.
All in all though, Isaac would handle a kid better than John when it comes down to taking care over one. He brings the patience and understanding to the table that John still lacks. But what John lacks in warmth, he would make up with being fiercely protective, dedicated to not lose a child under his watch ever again.

Trope Talk (muse of your choice!) @niratias / Meme (accepting) (Taken over from my other blog)
Tumblr media
Beware The Nice Ones Isaac may be a quiet and nice guy who prefers to just get along while minding his own business. But that man will curb stomp monsters and sass the hell out of someone if he has to. He can and will snap if pushed too far, so better don’t go under the pretense that his kindness and passive stance make him a weak pushover.
So while he’s not too hard get along with others, I like to have the opportunity to have him more unhinged, more ‘I’m tired of being nice’ every now and then. I think the developers should have given him more bite in DS3, given the shit he went through. Here he definitely adapts and gains a level in sass around other muses he hangs around with.
Gadgeteer Genius Isaac has the skills and know-how to build weapons and tools into useful gadgets to get by. He customised mining tools and medical applications into deadly firearms before. He certainly improved his skills over the past few years, but he’s not necessarily proud of it. He definitely prefers just doing his actual job, fixing ship parts and mining tools the way they’re intended to work.
Him having the skills and a knack for building/repairing things is certainly a good plot device for crossovers. He can be the team’s engineer/mech, either independent or employed by a huge questionable planet-cracker company.
Giving Up on Logic Isaac used to solve problems on his job by applying logic and science. But ever since getting exposed to Alien technology and dealing with Necromorphs, nothing is as it seems anymore. He’s given up on the comfort of things making any sense to him and just rolls with the situation at hand.
Which also comes in handy with crossovers. There’s not much he actively questions anymore, which makes him a not-too-complicated companion. His fascination for further advanced, older and/or different technology definitely remains tho.

PROMPTS FOR PATCHING UP WOUNDS *  assorted dialogue, adjust as necessary
it's honestly nothing. i can deal with it myself.
next time something like this happens, you have to promise to tell me.
you're making a big deal out of nothing. i'll be fine.
how long have you had that?
i'm good at this, you know. patching up wounds.
would you cut it out? i'm trying to help you.
why didn't you tell me you were bleeding?
you didn't have to take that hit for me.
what are you hiding from me?
it's not the worst injury i've ever seen, but it's pretty bad.
how long were you going to hide this from me?
at least let me look at it.
there. it looks much better.
this will help with the pain.
i'm forever in your debt.
i didn't have anywhere else to go.
this wasn't supposed to happen.
is that your blood?
i've patched up nastier wounds than this.
stop squirming! you're going to be fine!
this is bad. this is really bad.
i just need a band-aid and a nap. i'll be fine.
we need to get you to a hospital.
how does it look? be honest.
keep your eyes open, okay? keep looking at me.
it doesn't hurt that bad.
give me your hand. let me look at it.
who taught you how to patch a wound like that?
it's not as bad as i thought it would be, that's for sure.
would you just let me help you? please?
you saved my life.
let me go find my first aid kit. it's in here somewhere.
i'll take care of it. you just sit and rest.
see? that wasn't so bad after all.
i've seen worse.
take two of these and drink some water.
ow! that really hurt!
i've got you, okay? everything's going to be fine.
you're gonna have to take your shirt off.
well... it could have been worse.
it looks worse than it really is, i swear.
roll up your sleeve a little, will you?
does that feel all right?
i didn't even realize i was bleeding.
you could have been killed out there!
give me a second to patch this up.
don't close your eyes. you hear me? stay with me.
i'm not giving up on you just yet.
you still need some time to heal.
i'm right here. i won't leave your side.
thank you for taking care of me.
if you can still hear me, help is on the way!
just squeeze my hand when it starts hurting.
how long have i been out?
let me check for a fever.
did you patch this up?
i've had worse injuries than this.
where did you learn to do that?
take some deep breaths for me.
look at me. you're going to be fine.
hold still! stop moving around so much!
i'll take care of you.
what the hell were you thinking?
where does it hurt?
i'm so used to doing this myself.
lift up your shirt a little so i can see.
lay back down. you're not healed up yet.
you never should have put yourself in harm's way like that.
looks like i've got myself a really good nurse.
will you stay with me while i sleep?
no one's ever helped me like that before.
i would have died had it not been for you.
don't you get it? if you don't let me help you, you'll die.
we have to be quick about this.
this could get bad.

"There's no warrant anymore if you take the whole thing apart." (from Viktor) // @niratias / meme
Tumblr media
🔧 — "I know", Isaac replies, fully focused, as he continues taking the newly acquired device apart with a screwdriver. Clearly he could care less about warrants -> hey, it's another reason why he doesn't want people to gift him new, expensive things when he goes to adjust them anyway.
"I need to change out some of the valves and flaps to optimize its output. And since we can't really do this the official way right now, we have to go the not-so-warrant-friendly way about it. Good old 'DIY'. Mind giving me the wrench from the toolbox next to you?"

"When is the last time you showered or changed clothes?" (from Karson) // @niratias / meme
Tumblr media
🌐 — John is still recovering from a ship crash several days back. He barely left the bed he was dropped in since, which alone is already uncharacteristic for him. But, after waking up in a foreign place within an unknown colony and hearing that Earth is most likely lost, that everything his wife, Isaac and he himself did was just for nothing after all, where is even the point in trying anymore?
Sensing that the other still looms about, John turns on his back. Just lying around gets tiring too, and he hates being this unkempt and useless. But he just can't seem to find the energy to do anything about it.
"Fuck... if it bothers you so much, then why didn't you just let me out there inside that damn wreck to die?"

🔧 — One perk of having been a hired engineer within a huge mining company is a decent knowledge of ores, rocks and, more specifically, the tools to cut them properly. And of course, extracting any samples from the meteorite would go faster if he had a RC-DS Remote Control Disc Ripper at hand, but alas.
The superficial scans he conducts through his suit show indecisive results, but there appears no direct risk of this whole thing exploding into their face upon cutting it, at least. If there are any valuable ores in there, they could either sell or use them on their projects. Either way, they won't know until further examination.
"Alright, please stay back while I cut off a few samples."
Isaac, trusting Doc to take safety distance, then turns on his trusty Plasma Cutter, adjusts the alignment of the blades and gets to work. He cuts off several slices of the meteor until getting core samples out of it, too. So far, so good?
"Before we extract more, I suggest we get back to the cabin and thoroughly scan the samples."
As far as scans go, they fixed his mining suit when Isaac arrived back to this version of Earth, but the scans seem still a little unreliable. It will need some fine-tuning later. After having more information on their peculiar find.

Tumblr media
ᯓ🧪˖° “Ah, a quick death via toxicity. Not one of the worst ways to go,” Doc chuckled as he watched Isaac’s suit unfold and shield his face (man … he needs one of those). “Now— if we were really lucky, it’d be painless, too.”
Doc was always one for safety precautions. Usually. The truth in the matter was that ultimately: he was a hypocrite. So there he remained, bare-faced except for the goggles on his forehead.
Okay, okay, fine. He snapped them down over his eyes. There we go! The lens of the goggles suddenly zoom in like scopes as he inspected the meteorite further (as best as he could in these conditions).
“I’ll take your word on all that Necromorph business— I’m not seeing anything too alarming outside traces of nickel … so by all means, it very much could just be a lone bit of asteroid that found its way planetside.”
Surely nothing else. Right? Doc placed his hands on his hips before he took a few steps back, just in case.
“Well. Like many great scientists and researchers before us: when in doubt, give it a good poke.”
