My parents grew up in the 70s, so they're huge fans of 'The Rolling Stones' and 'Queen'. Me an' Piers listen to old punk rock as well, not so much modern music. I think Piers sees himself an' Team Yell as the rock band of the century...

'ello my old chums! I thought I would update you all, it's been a'while since I last posted:

. Spikemuth now has its own Pokeathlon Dome. Team Yell thought the place needed a leg-up, since we don't even have a proper stadium here. It's been a success so far! trainers from all over Galar have been checkin' it out.

. I'm goin' to Ecruteak City soon, would you believe it?? I've always wanted to go there. Piers booked the flight in March, and we're settin' off on the 22nd of August. I'll be sure to tell you guys about the trip.

. I've been practicin' playin' the electric guitar over the summer. The reason I started playin' it in the first place, was because of Piers and my parents pretty much. My family are all into rock music. I was just an amateur before, but I've definitely improved.

. The Gym is business as usual, I guess. Piers steps in as one of the challengers sometimes, so trainers can battle both of us.

. Morpeko has been gettin' a lot stronger, as I've been trainin' her at the new Pokeathlon Dome. I think she's motivated enough to take part in the tournaments- it's the power-up drinks which she doesn't like.

In general, I think ditto is real cool. I find it annoyin' when my opponent 'as one though. You just know it's goin' to use transform an' hijack the moves your pokemon has.

Would you ever want to compete for the title of champion in another region?

I mean, Galar is my home turf so I think I would feel anxious about movin' to another region. Also, I ain't the strongest Gym Leader so it wouldn't be easy. If I could be the Champion of anywhere else though, it would be the Pokemon League of Kanto an' Johto.

What's your favourite region that's not Galar??

I'm in love with the Johto region right now, so I'd probably go there. I'm fascinated by its history an' culture. I keep askin' me mum if we can fly there next summer- It ain't a hot region, so I won't 'ave to worry 'bout my bro complainin'.

Like Gloria’s other two rivals? I’m assuming you’re asking about Marnie and Bede haha

Marnie is an ace trainer! She really puts up a fight in battle and is a super great friend! I’m proud of her for being Galar’s own dark type gym leader! She’s brilliant :D

And Bede is amazing as well! I’m glad we’re chatting more and getting to know each other better because he’s a lovely lad (once you get past his hard exterior). I can’t think of any other trainer that could take Ms. Opal’s place as the fairy gym leader like Bede can!

Hi bro! Emilie dared me to ask ya this one. If you 'ad to choose between bein' a singer an' a pokemon trainer, which would it be?

Ah a good question, y'see music 'as been m' passion since I were your age. Pokemon battles n' bein a gym leader was never my lifestyle goal it was a means to an end and after a rather... unpleasant disagreement with mum I took off on m' own

But when it all came down to it, music didnt put money in my pocket so I ad to be practical

I battled enough to make a home for myself in Wyndon... tried to put out my music there but it didnt catch on until I started to mix battling with it

It was then I was approached by Chairman Rose he said he liked my style so he made me gym leader and I chose our home for the gym

Now Rose never like that but I told him where he could shove his dynamax den

I came back to spikemuth as gymleader piers

whats it like living in spikemuth?

It's pretty pleasant to be honest. Where my family an' I live is nearer the sea-front. The area near the Gym needs better lightin', I'll give ya that. I still like usin' it, though, an' Piers often uses the podium for performances. I think my bro talked 'bout this a while back, but there's an Art Gallery, a Museum and Library, lots of pubs and Karaoke bars. Obviously there's the shoppin' centre, which keeps me busy for hours whenever I visit. There's a Cinema tha' I use often, an' a famous sweet shop.

The sea-front is a different story, though. It's less enclosed, the line of houses on the promenade is real' pretty, and there's a Pier which is always lit up at Christmas. I'll be turnin' 17 next May, so I'm gonna ask Team Yell if they can light it up for tha' as well. There's also a large Park near the sea-front, which is where Spikemuth Fair is always held. I like walkin' down the beach with my pokemon, 'cause it's peaceful. Outer Spikemuth is also a great place to go for a stroll. My bro don't like usin' the path along the cliffs, though 'cause 'is hair gets in 'is face in the wind.

Ooc: Why Marnie had little screen time in Pokemon swsh- Theory

So this is the kind of dumb little analysis I'd put on my other blog, but since it's Marnie-centered... (I promise I won't do this often)

. I think there's many reasons why Marnie's character might have been pushed aside. If you compare her to the other rivals at the beginning of the game, there are two factors influencing her personality which Bede and Hop together arguably lack: Support and Self-esteem.

. The level of support which Marnie has from Team Yell is undeniable, and her confidence and 'cool headed' mindset is what brings her fans close to her. She is her own person, and is motivated by confidence. These are great factors, but they do not give Marnie's character as much room for development as that of Bede and Hop. Marnie doesn't have what she wants, which is to become the champion (Like everyone else) But because of these two factors, she seems to have what she needs in order to feel encouraged and valid.

. Bede is on the other end of the spectrum to Marnie in terms of familial support. He is revealed to be an orphan after Chairman Rose disowns him at Stow-On-Side. Bede's attempts to help Mr Rose prior to this are arguably driven by his need for a parental figure, and someone to recognise potential in him.

. Hop, on the other hand, lacks self-esteem due to his position under his brother's shadow. Yes, Marnie is also under the shadow of Piers as a Gym Leader, but Leon is the famous 'Unbeatable Champion' which is why Bede's words have such an impact on Hop later in the story.

. Bede's lack of support and Hop's lack of self-esteem are the main contributes towards their turning points as characters, which is arguably why they both had more screen time than Marnie. Bede's lack of support is somewhat resolved when Opal takes him under her wing. Hop's low self esteem is resolved to an extent, when he finds his ambition to be a professor, and steps out of Leon's shadow.

. At the start of the game, Marnie is used as an example of what your other two rivals don't yet have. I'm not saying that having a whole team to cheer for you is the same as a single old lady rooting for you, but Marnie does in a way foreshadow the arcs of both Bede and Hop. Bede eventually recieves the encouragement and support that he needs, even if it isn't exactly Team Yell, and Hop begins to believe in himself when recognising his individuality.

. Therefore, I think the main purpose of Marnie's character was to symbolise what Hop and Bede really needed, which is why she had little screen time compared to the other rivals. However, I still think it's a shame that Game Freak didn't pay more attention to her as a strong female character. I really like Marnie's design and personality, but she could have had an arc of her own as well. This could have been based on her relationship with Team Yell, or even with Piers.

I wanted to write about this so badly because I've been thinking about it. Next post will definitely be in character. 🎭
