Just when he had begun to get used to the idea of being in an underwater city, even despite how much he disliked actually being underwater, it would seem that his worst fears had become reality.
As he begun to make his escape, another problem arose. Stuck within the crowd, he’s pushed and shoved around, even despite his attempts to follow the crowd as everyone rushed for the exit. In the end, he ends up working his way out of the crowd— or perhaps getting shoved out of the crowd might be a more accurate description of what had occurred.
He takes a few moments to get his bearings once more, and more importantly putting his hood back on. Realising he was, more or less, back where he started, Seto starts to make his way for the exit, only to stop after taking a few steps.
Spotting someone curled up on the ground in the corner of his eye, he quickly walks over to them, kneeling down beside them before holding out a hand.
“Are you alright? We should probably get out of here, before-” before the bubble around the underwater city collapses. While he certainly didn’t want to be still here when that happened, like hell he was leaving while someone else was still down here.
He just hoped that his sister was safe, wherever she was.
@scarfheroine
It would be nice if they all could have some sense of normality in their lives for once, wouldn’t it? She has spent her time in the underwater city…arguably well, if not a little worried underneath it all, and on more than one occasion she’d considered seeing if she could still go back up and make sure everyone’s doing all right back there too. In the end, Ayano decides to stay where she is, which might’ve been a regrettable choice in hindsight ( but ah, aren’t most of the choices she makes? )
She is perhaps calmer than she should be, all things considered, after the announcement breaks out— no, perhaps it is not quite that she is calm, but she hides it better. After all, she cannot do a thing if she rushes in a panic…even if she cannot do much, really: that has never deterred her before, and standing around doing nothing will just leave her alone to worry over her own thoughts.
( Are you a little scared? Of course, she’s always been a bit of a coward, no good at anything; she can admit those things freely, but resolve is steeled to help in whatever manner that she can, that is the spirit of the person she is )
She wanders a little, eyes searching for anyone that seems like they might help…she wouldn’t be surprised if someone got hurt in the rush earlier; though she’d be lying if she denying that part of her is searching for any familiar faces. Plenty of familiar faces, ones she’s seen in the city ( both above and below water ), but she doesn’t really stop until she spots—
“Kousuke!” Voice might sound a little chiding ( if not perhaps, hypocritical ) but she’s always been soft on Seto anyways; so there’s no real heat behind it as she rounds towards him. “You’ll get left behind, hanging around back here, what are you…” Eyes light up a little when she draws close enough to notice other accompanying him; doesn’t yet quite occur to her that perhaps she needs to be careful about what she gives away. “Marry! You too!” A soft click of her tongue before Ayano wraps her arms around the pair and pulls them into a brief hug ( ah, they do not have time for such gestures, but she thinks they all could use the gentle reassurance it might bring ).
“You’re both okay, right?” Eyes are flittering, overlooking the pair for anything that might feel unusual— tries to hold Seto’s gaze, fretful, but she doesn’t really have time to call attention to her concerns. Maybe another time. Okay. Inhale. Exhale. Be strong, they’ll be counting on you. “Let’s move to somewhere safer to talk, okay?” Not that there’s much ‘safe’ here at the moment, but it’s probably best if they get moving somewhere.

Panicked crowds, pushing and shoving and yelling— Marry tries to make herself as small as possible, but even then, she can’t avoid the rush of people. A few times she’s knocked into, hair stepped on, girl holding her hands to her ears and squeezing her eyes shut as tight as she can.
She hasn’t even really processed the announcement, or the collapse, the response overwhelming her. Eventually, most people seem to have passed by, and there’s only a few stragglers remaining, though Marry doesn’t notice, still focused in on herself, trying to breath and calm down.
Are you alright? Soft voice calls out to her, and, how strange that so much tension leaves her body when she hears it. She recognises it, but, she cannot place it.
Tumblr media
“Ah... I...” She can’t say she’s okay, but... “I’m not injured... I think,” she decides on, hands slowly falling from her ears to her side and opening her eyes slowly. That’s... the boy from the flower shop, right?
“What’s... what’s happening...?”
Gaze flickers between him and his outstretched hand, and she tentatively reaches out to take it—
This time, when a new voice is heard, she places it to a name straight away! Breath catches in her chest, eyes widen; Ayano was here? Painful memories and a selfish relief cascade through her, though any negatives are buried as Ayano takes her and the boy into a warm embrace.
Tumblr media
“Ayano..!” Marry squeaks out, surprised but not ungrateful— no time for it, perhaps, but it was what was needed. She presses her head against Ayano, fingers curling around other’s clothes.
“Mmh...! I got... knocked down in the crowd, but, that’s it...!” she responds, not even thinking to question that Ayano knows the boy — knows him well enough to hug him tightly — far too busy with her attention focused on Ayano’s comforting presence.

treasure hunt frenzy part 2
@marryonette > @couragegained > @scarfheroine
For a while, it seems like the city of Theorillia and the underwater landscape are welcoming, quiet and filled with strange plants and animals that Marry spends her time watching, sometimes scrambling to take pictures for Kyouka but mostly relaxing.
Marry hadn’t been certain when she’d gone down to explore (as much as could be said, considering how close she stuck by safe areas) but was enjoying herself now. She’d found a quiet spot in outside the housing complex, sparsely populated — she’d seen a boy earlier, who seemed vaguely familiar, but not many others — and was resting her chin against the soft water grass, arms curled up beneath her chest, and that was where she had been when the large cracking sounds suddenly started up—
Girl takes a few moments, to process, and lifts herself up with her palms, raises her head to look upwards, trying to find the source of the sound. She doesn’t quite place it, not until a droplet of water lands on her nose, and eyes widen. Next plays the announcement, declaration of chaos.
“...Leviathan... Guarding the entrance...?”
Though the area had been quiet, earlier, people come rushing outside of the housing at this, and there’s a cacophony of voices, angry and shocked and confused; Marry barely gets up to sit properly before in the panic she’s knocked down again, face meeting grass unceremoniously.
People run past, and girl makes herself as small as possible, trying to scoot out backwards out of the rush and not get stepped on.

treasure hunt frenzy part 1
@liondanced
A girl crouches by the far edges of the protective bubble, wide eyes trained on the threshold and the people crossing it; every few minutes, she crawls closer — one hand leaves the protection — but scrambles back almost immediately.
It was all well and good to say she didn’t want to bother her friends, but... At this rate, she seems like she’s unlikely to explore past where she’d landed falling down from the water slide.
Perhaps she would be better suited to exploring the city of Theorillia instead of the outskirts? It’d be less dangerous, after all, and she glances over her shoulder for a moment to consider it, but seems rather paralysed by options.
A stranger calls out to her — inquire about what she’s doing — and she startles backwards, eyes darting anywhere but to look at them.
“...E...exploring... I think...”

treasure hunt frenzy part 1
Curiosity and fear are often at odds with one another; usually, they went to war over smaller things — approaching a stranger, trying a new type of food or peeking in on a scary show or movie — but this was fundamentally not much different.
Her motives were different than others, perhaps, their search for truth and answers more serious than her awe of the landscape, but even Marry was struck wanting to explore the strange location known as Theorillia.
Kyouka had expressed disinterest in it, citing that it was suspicious and likely dangerous, and Marry didn’t want to bother any of her other friends into accompanying her.
So, scuba diving gear clutched in arms, girl watched over threshold of the water slide, hesitating between the options of safety and adventure.
She could always return at any time, after all, and if it came to it she still had marginal use of her eye powers, however limited they had been by the city.
Arguments from both sides fired away in her head, kept her locked in stagnancy until someone jostled past her, knocking the clumsy girl into stumbling forward, straight...

Even as bundled up as she is, she couldn’t help but worry about Marry being cold— maybe she’ll have to look into getting her a pair of earmuffs or mittens, something to put her mind at ease, even if the chilly season will be gone before they know it. Soft laughter echoes other’s statement, leans in a little to look upon being prompted to do so. “So there is! How lucky for you, hm? Do you like marshmellows, Marry?”
Tumblr media
If nothing else, other girl is a warm comfort that serves for a good distraction from lingering thoughts about this time of the year, the ache of what she is missing here is eased with having her here: not quite a replacement, just her best at recreating some structure in her life. Affection is only a soft and genuine kindness that spills from her, free hand reaches out to brush some stray snow from her hair. “Huh…? Oh, no, it’s okay, it’s your drink, so you should enjoy it, all right? I’m happy even with only one…and besides, it might melt before you can do that anyways. Heheh, thank you anyways.”
A gift like that from big sister would be adored; even if it were Summer, Marry would probably find herself wearing them as a constant. Clothes from friends were both comfort physically, and comfort emotionally.
(Hum. Isn’t that why she never takes off her hoodie..? She must have gotten it on her entry to the Mekakushi Dan, but... Specifics evade her, and she can’t quite place the familiarity to any one member.)
The question doesn’t quite tear Marry’s attention away from her lucky find, but her gaze does flicker up for a few moments to meet Ayano with a smile and an enthusiastic nod—
“They’re so squishy in my mouth, it’s like eating a pillow..!”
Perhaps not the most accurate, but it carries the basic sentiment. There’s not much of a flavour to them other than sweet, really, so her enjoyment comes mostly from the unique texture!
“Oh... You’re right, it would get messy if we tried to move it, wouldn’t it...?”
Marry seems mildly disappointed at that revelation, but it doesn’t last long, as (with a last quick glance to Ayano, triple checking) she raises the mug to her lips and takes a sip! It’s too hot to drink much in one go, but marshmallows go down easily, milk stache all that remains when she returns it to it’s prior position.
Was double marshmallows as lucky as an upright tea stalk?
Probably not. But it was just as gratifying!
“Next time, then, Ayano gets the cup with two... Hm, hm...!”

It’s a hard call to make, not something that either of them had the answers to, in this time and place. Perhaps, somewhere, another reality, another pair of girls had the answer to that. It was probably better off for them to not know.
( Ah. Favoring eyes do not need to be active for her to read— disappointment? Something negative surely, and fingers squeeze hand in hers apologetically. She dislikes upsetting people, deterring her actions: Marry is trying her best for her, and she should be more appreciative of that fact )
“Probably. But I’m sure that we could say the same about most of our friends, hm?” Not that Ayano could blame him, sickly boy who’d had his life snatched away in an instant— to see friends, to make friends, that must be a kind of happiness not even she could match.
Tumblr media
She pauses when the other does— actually, that brings up a good point ( see: she hadn’t questioned much for the fact that Marry could recognize her, because there were pictures and pictures and pictures of a family that eldest sister doubted were ever hidden from sight, but for Haruka: there’s definitely something off about what she says ). “Well… actually, I’m wondering the same thing, Marry. How do you know Haruka…? I mean, like, how did you recognize him? You hadn’t met before, right? It’d only be natural for him to be surprised by that.” She doesn’t recall if Retaining Eyes had been used, but regardless, she’s sure that’s enough reason for him to be surprised, if she’s barely making sense of it.
There’s probably a good explanation, but she isn’t quite sharp enough to piece together what that might be.
It’s a comforting gesture for her too— long has gone the days where three siblings followed her like baby ducklings, hands held in hers as both guidance and reassurance ( for the best, really, she would have blindly led them into the end, wouldn’t she? Not intentionally, of course, but the point remains ). Tugging on her hand gets a smile, small shake of her head, though Ayano watches other girl carefully; doesn’t want to push her past her limits. “I hadn’t gotten much of a chance to look around really, but I was planning on seeing if any of the small stalls had anything nice to buy. Like, as souvenir gifts for the next time we see everyone.”
Ayano’s hand squeezes Marry’s gently, and pressure is a small condolence. The girl doesn’t quite respond, but she leans over without thinking towards elder sister’s direction.
She wishes, perhaps, that she could be just as helpful to Ayano as Ayano is to her; that she could be just as comforting a figure, that she could lessen Ayano’s burden. But wishes are not reality, and Ayano has spent many lifetimes relying only on herself, habits not changed so easily.
Over time, perhaps! That she can work towards. She doesn’t know how much just her simple presence helps Ayano already.
“You’re right...!”
Girl nods in affirmative. Naturally, any of them (anyone) would be excited to know someone they knew was in Koi as well. Being alone was a scary thing, no matter who you were.
Ayano speaks, and Marry blinks, almost freezes for a second; Ayano, as well? Haruka she had shrugged off, perhaps thinking that he was more confused about her recognising him as Haruka and not as Konoha immediately — she had made that mistake, sleepily, before the idea that her friend had disappeared set in forever — but Ayano surprised her, having never met Konoha before.
“How do I know him...? Everyone introduced me, of course...?”
...You hadn’t met before? That’s... Thoughts and ideas and memories mingle in her head, dancing around as she tries to reach for them. Was it possible that she hadn’t met him? That those memories were the same as those countless deaths?
Her expression looks rather pained, forehead furrowed. Marry’s fingers curl, and she finds herself squeezing Ayano’s hand back, frustrated at her own confusion, but it passes when Ayano’s soft voice speaks out again, suggesting they search for souvenirs to buy.
“...That sounds nice,” girl admits, happy to trail after big sister,

Ah…..Halloween had been and gone, so to have nicknames used when he wasn’t worried about his identity remaining secret in costume felt strange and a bit unfamiliar to his ear - especially such a close-knit one - yet he couldn’t bring himself to argue against it or say that she should use his name instead. Well…p-probably just the holiday spirit and all, you know. Besides, his focus was on a more concerning matter: that Marry seemed to honestly think HE wanted to keep the ticket!
“Wait, no, no- I wanted to give the ticket to you, not myself. Christmas is a season of giving, it’d be more than a little selfish to use such a thing for me. Besides, I don’t know many people personally that well, so I felt you could put much better use to it than me…I don’t have many people I’m exceedingly close with other than Aya and you, you know? I’m…not the most agreeable person, who’d want to go with me, anyway?” Klug, your self-doubt is affecting you again. Breaking the habit was easier said than done, sadly…
“Huh...? You didn’t want ideas who to bring?”
Klug corrects her, and Marry seems mildly confused. She hadn’t once considered the possibility of Klug not including himself for the gift. After all, it had been he who’d won it, right?
The girl nods along slowly, as he continues. She seems to understand his point a little more — Holidays were for sharing — but... Well, once he’s finished talking, Marry’s brow furrows slightly.
“It’s not selfish, if you use it for yourself... After all, you worked hard at the Maze to win it, right?” Though it’s verbally a question, she doesn’t really leave any room in the conversation for him to answer. Instead, she shakes her head gently to stop herself getting too worked up; her own insecurities were similar, perhaps, voices telling them they weren’t deserving.
“... Then, if you’re giving it to me, I can choose who I invite, right...?”
Conversation changes gear, slightly! If she can’t convince Klug to use the gift for himself, then the next best thing is this. Marry lifts her chin, and—
“Then, the first person I want to invite is you, Klug..!”

gift time! outside marry's door sits a cardboard box, her name written across the box itself in sharpie. the name of who sent it is nowhere to be seen. even so, it's certainly got its fair share of contents. a book on goldfish, a photo realistic sketch of her favorite breed of said fish, a small goldfish keychain, and a mug that says ' best secretary'. seems like someone couldn't decide on just one thing.
When Marry opens the box, spies the first sign of goldfish, her eyes light up! She moves the box over to the largest fish tank in her and Kyouka’s apartment, and opens the book up to show her small fishie friends to show them; she’s probably going to read it to them, later, the thought that they probably couldn’t hear her through the water and glass completely irrelevant to the idea.
Jotaro’s sketch elicits a gasp, as well, and the girl holds it up to view it. It’s a far cry from her crayon drawings, every single feature detailed perfectly on the fish, almost like a picture taken by camera.
“I have to work hard... so I can draw like this as well...!” she nods her head, encouraged!

A small package has been left at her door, small note tucked inside, which reads: Marry! A proper initiation to the dan from the leader is in order, don’t you think? Happy holidays! I hope next year will be good to us too. The package contains both a pink hoodie and sweater, the number four stitched onto it with some flowers. She’s also tucked in some kind of storybook that she thinks she might like.
Marry opens to apartment door, and it catches on something outside! It seems there’s another package for one of the girls! She opens the door gently, and picks up the package, taking it inside.
The note is read first; No name is mentioned as to who it’s from, but Marry knows instantly, soft smile melting on her face as she holds it in her hands.
“It’s from Ayano..!” she says, voice hushed but expression bright. She’s trying not to wake Kyouka, but she’s still very excited. She moves over to the couch, seats herself, and opens the package rather clumsily.
Storybook and sweater are held out appreciatively, and the hoodie is worn almost immediately with wide, cheesy smile.
Kido had welcomed her into the Dan, of course, but there’s something special about it coming from the founder of their little gang.

❝ Uh… so— ❞ A purple gift box tied with golden ribbon is offered suddenly, an expression akin to nervousness on her features as she continues, ❝ Look, I’m not good with this sh— stuff, but you gave me something and I don’t like owing people so here. ❞ It’s probably safe to guess that the statement is only half true, or she wouldn’t be so embarrassed! Inside is a pink, white fur-lined winter hooded cape with bunny ears! Wow!
Curious tilt of the head, Marry blinks as she turns to meet Nicolette’s hesitant voice; smile grows visibly when she sees the small box in friend’s hands, and it is taken gratefully.
“Miss Nicolette...!”
Marry’s slightly surprised, at the offering, but definitely not displeased! The box is held closely to her chest. Nicolette’s always been nice to her, but she still worries that her constant awe and questions might bother the taller lady.
“Did... did you like it, then? I thought it would look really nice, in your hair, but I know you have a lot of things like it, and I wasn’t...”
Oh, how words flow! Her eyes dart from side to side, but it seems she’s as nervous as Nicolette in this situation.
