                  engaging the ENEMY alone — it was a rule not to be trifled with, && yet here our naive rookie went. even AFTER the lectures && stern recognition he underwent, smokescreen found himself avoiding backup at every turn. that is, until it came back to cost him. the troopers were overwhelming, && he was backed up to a wall. leaking energon from his abdomen, smokescreen grunted as his armor wafted with searing smoke from metal burn. a single eradicon managed to backhand the boy to the ground, sending droplets of energon to the dirt.

                            ❝ is that… is that ALL you got?? ❞ a taunt earned him a kick to the already bleeding wound, a cry wrenching from his throat.
-- IT  WAS  ONE  RULE  that  Optimus  knew  Smokescreen  would  not  obey  at  every  given  turn;  he  could  always  see  the  determination  in  the  other’s  optics,  trying  to  prove  himself  worthy.  It  wasn’t  something  that  struck  the  Prime  on  a  personal  level,  but  that  determination  was  something  he  knew  well;  and  it  usually  got  the  rookie  into  trouble.
With  a  groundbridge  to  Smokescreen’s  location,  he  opted  for  the  element  of  surprise,  gunning  down  the  eradicons  that  surrounded  the  young  mech.  While  Optimus  chose  not  to  have  his  own  initial  backup,  he  did  have  Bulkhead  ready  in  case  something  went  wrong.  So  far,  however,  so  good.
Tumblr media
The  Prime  didn’t  speak  when  he  had  offlined  the  eradicons  in  the  area,  but  rather  slowly  paced  over  and  offered  Smokescreen  his  servo  to  help  him  up  on  his  pedes.  If  one  paid  enough  attention  to  detail,  however,  one  might  be  able  to  see  a  hint  of  disappointment  in  his  optics.

Was he insane? “They-” he growled “You’re insane.” he scolded as he looked up to the mech. “Have they? after they killed Leadfoot? Killed Ratchet? How many of us must die before you can see that?!” Ironhide found his voice raising as he tensed and took a step back away from the prime. “can you? If it wasn’t for sentinel… if it wasn’t for him betraying US we would not be in this position! I warned you!” his voice cracked “I warned you about their violence!” he frowned “I trusted you” his voice murmured softly “I can’t trust humans anymore. Humans are hunting us. It is either US or THEM.”
Tumblr media
-- OPTIMUS  KNEW  THAT  TONE.  It  was  not  something  he  was  willing  to  accept,  nor  was  he  willing  to  allow  Ironhide  to  try  and  bring  down  what  he  stood  for.  With  a  swift  glare  of  his  optics,  the  Prime  took  a  step  forward  in  a  wary  confidence,  denta  slightly  gritted  as  he  spoke.

          “ Yes,  I  know  what  they  did  ---              what  they  did  to  Leadfoot,  what  they  did  to  Ratchet.              You  don’t  think  I  know  what  the  humans  did?              I  don’t  trust  them  ---  but  I  do  trust  Cade  Yeager,              for  I  wouldn’t  be  here  otherwise.
                           I  stormed  on  KSI  for  a  reason,  Ironhide.  I  would  have  done  the  same  if  you  were  the  one  being  melted  down  into  nothing. ”
The  Prime  never  tolerated  such  accusations.  While  he  knew  that  Ironhide  was  speaking  the  truth,  Optimus  refused  to  count  his  human  friends  as  those  he  was  to  hide  from  and  fear.  He  knew  that  anything  he  ever  did  never  satisfied  the  humans;  there  was  always  a  casualty  that  they  would  use  against  him,  there  was  always  something  that  would  reflect  back  on  him.  Yet,  Cade  had  never  done  that.  Optimus  knew  Cade  was  someone  trustworthy,  despite  being  human.
If  only  Ironhide  could  see  that.
          “ Do  not  try  and  tell  me  who  to  choose.              I  have  my  side  and  my  spark  will  always  be  for              the  Autobots.  For  our  kind.
                           Just  because  I  trust  one  human  doesn’t  mean  that  I  automatically  choose  their  side.  They  tried  to  kill  me.  They  worked  with  Lockdown  to  try  and  be  rid  of  me  once  and  for  all.  I  hold  many  regrets  and  trusting  the  human  military  was  one  ---  trusting  Sentinel  was  another. ”

Ironhide looked up as he spotted his previous commander. He never announced that he had gone neutral but he couldn’t fight like this… Fight for nothing. “Prime.” He greeted a bit gruffly, he didn’t like his tone but- he couldn’t soften it. The mech couldn’t stay out in the open long, not when the humans seemed to be around every corner.
“how did you find me? Don’t you have a few human PETS to tend to?” he hated the venom but he couldn’t stop it from dripping into his tone.

。what is / are Optimus' greatest fear(s)? has he ever experienced them? how badly was he affected by them? is there anything that would, for lack of a better phrase, "scare him shitless"? if / when he encounters the, how does / would Optimus overcome his fears?
TYRAN V;
Optimus prefers to tell others that he isn’t afraid of anything, not even death (which is something he has experienced and would do again); in fact, he does have a couple of fears that aren’t voiced. The fear of failure is something that weighs on his spark more than he likes; he worries that without his guidance and leadership, the Autobots will fall apart and become almost non-existent, leaving the Decepticons to win the war and bring tyranny to both Cybertron (or what remains of it) and Earth. He doesn’t want the Autobots to fail, he wants to give his kind a fighting chance, but he fears that if he isn’t around, everything will come tumbling down. Another fear is not something, but rather someone; Megatron. Optimus knows what Megatron is capable of and he knows that while Megatron has major setbacks, he is unrelenting and ruthless in his comebacks. He knows that the mech is a force that should not be reckoned with; the worst part is, he knows Megatron on a personal kind of level. He considers him a brother. This does make the situation much worse than it should be.
Of course he’s experienced his fears, and while he wishes to admit that he isn’t affected by them, he really is. There’s not a sound escape to either fear. It’s either this or that; he fails or succeeds, there’s Megatron or there’s not. However, it varies on whether or not it even affects him. Really, it depends on the timeline. At first, Optimus was definitely afraid of Megatron but not so much afraid of the failure that could come from his death; this flips around in the later films, as he perceives Megatron as a threat but not so much a fear, while the overwhelming fear of failure leads him into undesirable situations. The Prime had already failed his team on many occasions and he compromised the trust he had with the humans of Earth; with the influence of Quintessa, he had no other way to avoid failure but to seek redemption.
Nothing from the first four films quite scares him to the point of being scared shitless. While he is a mech with weaknesses and fears just like any other mech would, Optimus has never quite faced the true meaning. Sure, he had a wave of fear hit him when he tried and failed to kill Galvatron and he had fear strike him hard when he was taken aboard Lockdown’s ship, but he was never quite scared to that point. Facing Quintessa in the fifth film? Well, there’s a different story…
To overcome his fear of failure, he thinks of the best case scenario and aims for that. Optimus has a strong sense of determination; if he sets his mind on something like that and works damned hard for it, he’s either going to succeed or it’s going to hit him harder than a freight train at 100km+. It’s worked for him for the most part, but it’s also done a complete 180 degree turn on him; his assault on KSI was meant to exact vengeance for Ratchet, for any of his friends and comrades that were melted down in such a monstrous way. The best case scenario was getting out of there in time before something bad happened. What instead happened was they were pursued by Stinger and Galvatron, then he got captured by Lockdown and Tessa ended up on the ship with him. While this doesn’t help in the way of his fear, it does help when it actually works. As for Megatron? Well, there’s no true way to overcome that fear…
TFP V;
Optimus in TFP is much more open about his fears. While they may seem a little illogical and almost out-of-the-blue, he has a slight fear of overwhelming amounts of change and a fear of torture. Ironically, both stem from his former self, Orion Pax; while he has changed drastically in form, fighting spirit and determination, Optimus sometimes struggles to face the fears that Orion had developed before and during the war for Cybertron. These two fears stemmed from the drastic shift in socio-political stability in the Cybertronian race and the threats that were starting to be thrown around by others. Nobody knows for certain if Orion ever faced torture or was close for torture, but if someone was able to capture the Prime, there will be a split second where you can see the fear in his optics. The fears that his Tyran counterpart have are also fears he has in this verse; the fear of Megatron is heavily influenced by his other two fears, and the fear of failure reflects on Orion’s overwhelming hesitancy to be considered worthy.
As dabbled in the previous paragraph, he has had some form of experience in his fears and he is pretty affected by them. While it’s unsure if Orion ever faced torture, it is definite that Orion had definitely felt the true force of change with the instability of social structure crumbling. Yes, he wanted equality for all, but he never wanted there to be two sides fighting over freedom and tyranny. It sparked that fear that huge waves of change also bring the worst with it, much like the with the challenge in system brought forth a wave of change that ignited a civil war. Optimus, even though he should never be bothered about his worthiness as a Prime, still reflects on events from the past and tends to overthink his own question; am I truly worthy? He reflects on the worst parts of the war along with the conflict he brought to Earth, and he lingers on it a bit too much. As for Megatron? That is the one fear he faces almost all the time.
His fears tend to get the better of him compared to his Tyran counterpart. Sure, freezing to death is one thing and basically being killed from a gigantic laser is another, but nothing beats that sudden wave of terror he experiences when he watches his plans fall apart and his team suffer for it - essentially, being scared shitless from his fear of failure. The worst part of this wasn’t necessarily on Cybertron, but on the Nemesis itself; when trying to seize the warship, he had thought he lost Bumblebee to the mix. Not only does he consider Bumblebee a close friend but he sees the scout like a son; he knew that all Bumblebee wanted was to go home and be promoted from Scout to Warrior. In those moments when he watched Bee fall, Optimus was slammed in the face with a wave of failure. He thought he failed to get Bee home. He thought he failed to give Bee the true honor that he deserved by pulling off such a reckless stunt to seize the Nemesis. It’s not easy to crack open the Prime in the heat of battle, but watching that happen? Prime was quick to turn one fear into a motivation.
To overcome his fears, he tries to reason them out. What if he never brought about a large wave of change? Perhaps Cybertron would have never recovered. What if he didn’t face Megatron in that very moment? His team might have had to suffer for his cowardice. What if he never avoided capture? He had his team to rely on to get him back and he was confident in them. What if this failed? Perhaps there wouldn’t have been a home to go back to. It’s almost a subtle way of convincing himself to put full trust in himself and his team to overcome his fears and win - and it usually works out for him. If it doesn’t work, however, then he uses the same method his Tyran counterpart uses; aim for the best case scenario.

。what is Optimus' alignment? has Optimus ever had to cross his own morals over the course of the war? how far would Optimus go to end the war? is there a limit to what he would do? does Optimus believe in "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few"? if he was faced with a choice of sacrificing 10 000 lives to save 10 000 000 lives, what would he do?
Once again, it’ll be Tyran V. vs the TFP V. since there are some differences.
TYRAN V;
Optimus’ main alignment is a switch between Lawful Good and Neutral Good. While he is almost absolutely set on listening to the laws that the world of Earth provides, it is later in the films that he is more than willing to bend the rules so he can operate in a way that is still protecting the Earth and its inhabitants. While under the influence of Quintessa in TLK (from what I know of; I still need to see the movie), the Prime’s alignment drastically shifts to Neutral Evil. Though this is a temporary alignment, it deeply affects the Prime’s overall attitude.
During the war for Cybertron, Optimus tried his best to stick with his own morals. To go against his own morals was to betray himself and everything he stood for; not only that but it would affect the team and how they saw the Prime. While Optimus is very much a mech that believes in his morals, he has crossed his own line a few times during the war. He hates to admit it; in fact, it’s a miracle if Optimus could ever openly tell someone of this. His morals are, but not limited to; “do not torture”, “think before you act”, “strength in numbers/union is strength”, “revenge is dearly bought at the price of liberty” and “persuasion is better than force”.
At this point, Optimus is exhausted. He just wants the quarrels to be over and he wants peace within his race. While his methods are still somewhat lenient to the morals he upholds, if he has to, the Prime is willing to do what it takes to end the war. However, Optimus knows for a fact that wiping out the Decepticons will just lead their race to damnation; while they outnumber the Autobots and they are the ones following Megatron’s command, it isn’t right to extinguish every single one. They need to have a steady population to restart on Cybertron. His hopeful theory is that if they take down the main commanding Decepticons, perhaps he can lead them to a time of peace and prosperity…
While Optimus prefers no casualties at all, he knows that there will always be casualties in war. As much as he wants to protect every single life and ensure the survival of not only his own race but the humans, the Prime is painfully aware that sacrifices have to be made. After all, he has sacrificed himself on a number of occasions, only dying once due to that sacrifice. It’s a moral dilemma when he’s faced with a choice like this, but in the end, he has to put the needs of the many above the needs of the few. If you were to ask the Prime that question, “would you sacrifice 10,000 to save 10,000,000”, he would very hesitantly say yes. It isn’t a part of his nature to want to sacrifice lives, but he knows that either way the humans would disregard his efforts.
TFP V;
Similar to his Tyran counterpart, Optimus has the Lawful Good alignment. He has rarely overstepped his bounds in the show to be considered Neutral Good, since he is so very willing to do what Fowler tells him he must, but the alignment stands for he bends his own rules occasionally (after all, he was only going to have the children around for a short amount of time, to ensure that the Decepticons weren’t aware of their involvement). Unlike his counterpart, however, Optimus has never changed between the two alignments, not even when he lost his memories and was Orion Pax.
Optimus was a lot more careful in crossing his morals during the war. He never tortured, always planned ahead, and he always tried to balance out groups so everyone was supported by others around them. However, being so new to such horrors of war, he was bound to accidentally cross one of his own morals. Upon the loss of a few bots that he considered very close, his motives to exact vengeance upon the one who extinguished their spark left him trapped and with nowhere to go for a while. He was just lucky that he wasn’t brutally murdered there and then and a small party managed to get him out of there safely. It was that event that he realized that vengeance is not worth it if you’re going to pay just as dearly from it as the one you tried to get vengeance for.
During the timeline, Prime was very careful yet persistent about his methods to win the war. Yes, there were the energon shortages and to keep them up he needed to scout for energon. Yes, there was then the major conflict with the dark energon that Megatron retrieved and tried to use for an undead army. Yet, through everything that they went through, from the energon race to the artifact race, Optimus refused to stoop as low as Megatron would. Dark energon was something he would never tamper with. He refused to offline a Decepticon if they were vulnerable. The Prime knew the repercussions to his rightful actions in the long run, but if he wasn’t crossing a line that he knew Megatron would, then he was the better one of the two. To win the war, persuasion was the key; at multiple attempts, Prime has tried to convince Decepticons to follow his path instead - while there was little success, it did come with small benefits that would help him win the war.
Once again, Optimus hesitantly believes that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. HOWEVER, unlike his Tyran counterpart, he tends to switch between the two. Optimus has demonstrated that he would put his team’s life on the line to keep the kids safe, yet he has also proven that he would put his own life down to ensure that the rest of his team is safe. While it isn’t the most ideal system, he knows that no matter what his decision is, the team needs to know his reasoning. This is why he willingly gave up the Star Saber and all of the other artifacts to save the kids, yet when the base was about to be destroyed, he stayed behind to destroy any evidence of where the team went - and almost with a great cost.

。what is / would be Optimus' go to relax routine? how much free time does he get? how often does he get it? does he use his free time to relax or do work? are there any activities he's picked up on Earth that he enjoys, & does in his spare time?
I hopefully put in enough thought to this. I’ll try and make it so it’s the two different continuities I currently do for Optimus, since each would differentiate in small but meaningful ways. It also gets super long because I love in-depth headcanon stuff.
TYRAN V;
It’s a miracle that Optimus Prime relaxes at all, with the amount of chaos and mayhem that ensues in the films. If he had a good routine to take off some of that stress and to just relax, it would consist of a drive out to the closest hill/mountain to watch the sun set behind the horizon and a good stretch out of his alt form. It’s a therapeutic form of relaxation, but it would give him the perspective he needs to push forward and do what he believes is right. He’d come back with relaxed shoulders and a calm attitude and, if you crack a joke after this, you might be able to catch him smiling.
Free time is hard to come by for Optimus. With something always sparking a new motive for the Decepticons and with the Prime being the leader, there’s little time for him to catch a break. When NEST was formed, however, there was always an amount of time before he had to roll out again, or before he had to settle disputes with the humans. The time varied from a few minutes to an hour or two, but it was usually consistent. With NEST gone in AoE and with Cemetery Wind hunting him down, the only break he got was when he ended up in Texas. After Cade helped him out of his damaged state, he was back to being on the run and without a break.
When he had the free time, Optimus was always finding something that needed to be done. Whether it be observing the web to find Decepticons or just observing the team and giving advice, the Prime never really used his time for a break. If it got to the point that he was pushing himself too far, it was up to Ratchet to remind him to take a proper break. Unfortunately, it isn’t that way during the events of AoE.
Optimus finds the culture of Earth to be fascinating. The fact that there are museums dedicated to the arts, and buildings filled with history dating back to the most earliest stages of their existence, reminds him of a time where Cybertron was just as culturally rich and balanced. While he hasn’t adopted many activities from Earth, he does enjoy watching others partake in such things. The Prime can be seen subtly observing what Cade invents, or what street artists create when he passes through a city peacefully in his alt form. The things he does in his spare time (if he is well and truly alone) is learn how to create… Art. He finds that it’s a lot more difficult for someone his size, but he’s adapted to a more Abstract Expressionist style. Optimus has also found himself wanting to paint a vivid memory of his home on Cybertron.
TFP V;
Unlike his Tyran counterpart, Optimus in TFP is better at developing a good routine to relax. When there’s peace and quiet at the base, the Prime just has a civil conversation with his friends family. If there’s nobody to talk to (which is near impossible since Ratchet is almost always at base), he occupies himself with work or checking supplies. While it’s not the best way to relax, at least he knows that he is safe and sound in a base where the Decepticons can’t track them. When the base falls, Optimus has a hard time doing anything to put his mind at ease, but chatting with the other bots and exchanging stories definitely helps.
Free time varies during this. With energon supplies running low and Ratchet especially on edge, Optimus tends to help scout for energon deposits and helps ease everyone’s troubles. When he does get free time, it’s quite plentiful. He sometimes prefers it to be as quiet as it can get regarding Decepticon activity, but at the same time it throws him off big time. After the destruction of the base and his revival, he was more or less all work and no play when the kids weren’t around. Even with free time, he was doing something that would help the team, especially with encrypted files that he knew he could crack. Optimus is still aware that he owes Raf a snowball, but he has too much going on to make a trip to the Arctic to get a snowball.
As before mentioned, Optimus switches between actually working through his free time and relaxing while the team does their own thing. It almost wholly depends on the situation. Celebration? Optimus is working, making sure the team doesn’t fall behind. A break in Decepticon activity? Optimus is being very careful to switch between working and relaxing. In the three or so years of no Decepticon activity? He’s probably bored out of his mind scouting for energon, but at least the driving is relaxing. The only time it’s pure free time is when Ratchet shoos him off from work, or when someone starts a conversation with him.
Similar to his Tyran counterpart, he finds Earth culture fascinating. Optimus has made the habit of analyzing written Earth history and filling in the gaps where Cybertronian history might collide, and he’s also taken the time to learn as much as he can about the most famous and influential people in history. While he might not be the artistic type and finds art to be less appealing compared to his Tyran counterpart, he’s painted a picture or two of the Iacon Hall of Records from what he could remember. These are stored away so nobody is able to see them, but they are definitely there. It’s almost accurate - or, as accurate as a mech can get it.

Tagged by: nobody i stole it Tagging: whoever wants to do this idk i’m lame at tagging ppl
THE MENTOR.
A more experienced advisor or confidante to a young, inexperienced character, particularly to a hero. You are seen as an old soul by your peers and you have a natural quirk of wanting to take care of others. You seem to be the most mature of your friends and you love giving them advice. You seem to have a lot of experience with trouble and the woes of the world, but you know how to handle what life throws at you.

starsmithed.
kinda just carried in prime’s arms, he’s like… VERY TALL. But really hot rod crosses his arms like a big baby
“le commandant, it is just everyone has a tendency to call me CUTE. How I suppose to be a feared warrior if bots think I’m cute.”
( @martyrcdsoul )
          “ You  should  not  let  it  get  to  you  ---              as  much  as  being  considered  cute  may  be  degrading,              a  strong  and  true  warrior  will  not  be  phased  by              such.  In  fact,  consider  it  a  compliment.
                                        You  will  grow  to  adapt  to  such  things. ”
Prime  is  not  bothered  about  Hot  Rod  looking  like  a  big  baby  in  his  arms.  In  fact,  he  finds  it  mildly  amusing.  Not  to  worry,  it  is  his  secret.
