New Ms. Marvel!
Did this for fun in between issues.  I’m an unabashed fan of Adrian Alphona’s (duh) and really enjoyed G. Willow Wilson’s Air—so checking out this new title from them is a no-brainer for me!

The truth is, I’m really very pleased to see them continuing to work toward doing better with diversity. Marvel editorial could’ve looked back to the pernicious racist reaction to their introduction of Miles Morales and quit. But despite the backlash, and all the missteps and the errors they’ve made so far, they’re still trying, and that is vitally important in this age where people are still asking, “why isn’t there a White History Month?” freaking out over a Mexican-American singing the National Anthem, and spewing hate when an Indian-American woman wins a beauty pageant. DC editorial tried. They introduced a number of ethnic characters, only to kill the majority of them, and give the legacy title right back to the white guy who was starring in it before, in response to fanboy outcry. Marvel editorial have taken the bold and laudable step of giving a Woman of Color her own title, and while I intend to buy it and support it, I’m being realistic about what has come before. I’m going in with genuine “Make Mine Marvel!” enthusiasm, but with my eyes wide open.

New Ms. Marvel Revealed
In case you guys didn’t already know, Marvel Comics released some information early this month on the new upcoming superhero. Ms. Marvel is supposed to be released February 2014, if you’re interested. Okay, so why am I bringing this up?
The only official information we were given from Marvel about the character is the following: name (Kamala Khan), age (16), religion (Islam), location (New Jersey), and power (body-morphing). The feedback this character got is mostly negative, with people openly hating her. Why? There has barely been any information released about her.
It’s probably obvious why. There are female and teen-aged characters in the comic world already, and there was nowhere near as much negativity towards them. I’m sure the location and power aren’t a problem, either. So the only thing left is her religion. So my reaction to the Ms. Marvel haters: FUCK YOU.

A really, really rough sketch I did this morning as a warm-up.
I can’t see anything wrong with the new Ms Marvel, and I think it’s pretty cool that they took inspiration from Supergirl when designing the cover of issue 1. Can we have another DC vs. Marvel event but instead of fighting each other, they just hang out and kick ass and be BFFs? Please and thank you.
