It’s the 19th Anniversary of BLT launching, how did Iikubo-san feel when you were 19?

“It was a delicate year where I was not a child or an adult, so at the time I wanted to quickly become 20 years old. Now, I occasionally think that I want to go back to the time of being a student, but I wonder if returning to my teens would be good. I want to fully enjoy my 20s.”

Do you have an memories of BLT?

“We were having our photos taken by Shinoyama Kishin-san, I have a lasting memory of when everyone was jumping. But when I look back at that photo it’s embarrassing. Because it was before I had started having a sense of beauty aesthetic, my facial features were complete~y different (laughs).”

The group also, is constantly changing.

“The other day on “Music Station” we were called on for “amazing JPOP choreography”, we showed off “Ai no Gundan”; being called on for that sort of thing makes me very happy, in order to get called on again for that kind of theme, I’d like to head towards a higher degree of perfection.”

With the fall tours title “MY VISION”, does Iikubo-san have a vision for the future of the group?

“I am thankful for this desire to want to become the world’s best known idols. Now, Japan’s idol culture is being spread throughout the world, and wouldn’t it be good if Morning Musume was standing at the forefront of this? Also, I’d like to go to countries that don’t know of Japan’s idol culture yet. Without words, I think we can deliver a performance of song and dance.”

TV I’m Into: “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure” Part 4 is being broadcast, and I watch it every week.

Finally your fall tour has begun.

“I love concerts of course, when I stand on the stage I’ve come to realize “This is fun, I’m alive”. Recently, the fans have increasingly told me “You really look like you’re laughing and having fun”, it makes me very happy for my feelings to be communicated, so for this tour I want those who come to see me to enjoy watching us.”

Is it more enjoyable now because you overcame something?

“I have experienced many sad things such as members graduating, so I’ve come to feel “I have to enjoy this with all of my might,”. At concerts on the day of a graduation announcement, a lonely atmosphere flows through for a moment, and I see the member’s fans looking down; we also all feel the pain. But, I think that it’s an idol’s role to cheer up people like that, isn’t it important to think about ‘how can I make that person smile?’”

When you became ‘16, were there changes in the group?

“Suzuki (Kanon)-san graduated just a few months in but, it felt like the group really changed. There wasn’t anyone saying “do it” but we collectively, naturally checked everyone’s singing and dancing. All of the members feelings became the same, it made me happy as it felt we had become one. We had become connected through team work, I think that it will be nice as we go through with this time’s tour.

MASAKI’S VOICE

The fall tour has already began, are you enjoying the tour?

“Out of my work I especially like concerts, so I enjoy it with all of my heart! Each song is precious; I hope it reaches a lot of people. I want to gradually transmit them, I want our group to become known to Madonna and Justin Bieber. I’d like it if people came to say things like “Morning Musume is amazing!” and “That group has fun songs,”. In order for that to happen. I’ll be doing my best!”

Sato-san, are you enjoying the music yourself?

“Even if I’m going through something bad music will keep me alive. I think that people are able to be happy with music, therefore, I want everyone to get a taste of Morning Musume’s music and be in a happy mood.”

To go that far with a big presence, if there’s music you’ll be happy!

“That is what I really think. I also can’t say it very well but, if you’re listening to music, it will raise your mood.”

With the fall tours title “MY VISION”, does Sato-san have a vision for the future of the group?

“Honestly, right now is still a blank page. But, in front of my eyes it’s taking the form of striking peanuts*, it has the feeling of pursuing a course. Therefore, we can’t lose our way. I think that we are believing and walking towards a brighter future. I want everyone to move forward while singing happily. Please definitely come and enjoy this tour!”

*I don’t know if this is like…an idiom or something, but that is what she said. Translating what Maa-chan says is always a bit of a struggle ^^;;

“Morning Musume is in an uneasy situation! But I want to you to continue to enjoy watching us”

“Justin Bieber to recognize Morning Musume…I want that now!”

We’ve interview the 5 leads for the women’s theater “They were 11! Horizon of the East, Eternity of the West”. Of course, on the same stage as them, C-ute’s disbandment announcement; Angerme, Juice=Juice’s hurried rise to forefront, the current Morning Musume facing a variety of opinions and values, everyone shared their feelings all at once. Finally, the unexpected development……in order to spin their 20 years of history like their seniors, at any time that Morning Musume is not just putting on airs.

There is No One Thinking “Why Do We Exist?” in Morning Musume!

Today we only have aggressive members here, so I thought that you’d perhaps be able to intensely speak your normal thoughts and feelings, what you five’s mode and mental state towards activities? Would you first answer this question one by one?

Oda Sakura: For me, I think I have the image of really liking Morning Musume. I’m aiming to ideally compare ‘What was good about the Morning Musume I watched?’ and ‘What is good about us as Morning Musume now?’. Not to manage our image, but being conscious of our sparkling feelings and with the shape of performance, even if it’s completely different I want people to think “Morning Musume is Morning Musume no matter the era,”.

When was the era of Morning Musume “The Morning Musume I like”?

Oda Sakura: The Morning Musume I really like is from 1997 to when they debuted in ‘98 to 2003. I was only 3 or 4 at that time so I don’t really have memory of it but, when I watch it now I think “I like that era the most,”. They would go on TV a lot and continuously show their big hits “LOVE Machine” and “Renai Revolution 21”; when the 5th generation members were becoming active (Takahashi Ai, Niigaki Risa, Ogawa Makoto, Konno Asami)……I like the sparkling feeling from that era. We compare ourselves to that era like “From that time and now was different here, but there is good that can only happen now,”; it’s fun to seek out the good things in the current Morning Musume. Every era is good but, there are certain things that are only good in certain eras.

What does Kudou-san think?

Kudou Haruka:  Individually, we’ve come to often think ‘what is it that only I can do?’. My boyish character is something like that; I could surely only put out this self with the current members, so isn’t it nice that I can put confidence in that? Therefore when I have opportunities with magazines and on TV, to the best of my ability, I do things to push out my boyish appeal. Also, idols sing and dance……I’ve thought ‘what are other things I can do?”; this time I got to be in Engeki Joshibu’s “They Were Eleven! Horizon of the East Eternity of the West”, because I like plays, I thought that I must do my best to make the current Morning Musume known; those are the kinds of things I think about in my day to day activities.

Before you were doing your boyish character with shyness, but now you’ve been going full face with they boyishness without hesitation, huh? Kudou Haruka: The shyness has been blown away  (laughs). “It’s more fun to do it” is what I’ve realized by filling out the character.

With that, you were the center of “Mr. Moonlight ~Ai no Big Band~” right?

Kudou Haruka: It was really a blessing! I would always lose my way with myself and my impersonation of being boyish, when I was chosen to be the center I thought “I’m glad I get to do my best,”. 

Oda Sakura: You were lost? (laughs)

Kudou Haruka: I was lost. Even things like characters can be lost.

Like, Am I boy? Am I a girl?

Kudou Haruka: I undertook wondering why I felt lost (laughs).

170624　"Morning Musume '17 Morning Jogakuin Meeting" #272 (from the bonus 5 minute version of Morning Jogakuin) Ikuta Erina (day duty), Satou Masaki, Oda Sakura (Topic: When Maachan stood on the stage of Saitama Super Arena for the first time in her life for ℃-ute's final concert, she got dizzy because there were so many people in the audience and said she could never put on a concert in one of the domes which are even bigger...) Satou: Ah, Masa, here, here, here, here! Oda: Yes? Satou: Can I say something? I might end up changing the subject though. Oda: Sure. What is it? Satou: Umm... As soon as the ℃-ute concert was over, a gentle rain started falling. Oda: Yeah. Satou: I felt a bit like crying after that. Oda: After it rained... Satou: Yeah, because it didn't rain at all during the concert. Oda: Yeah. Satou: When I looked out the windows, it wasn't raining. Oda: Yeah. Satou: But after the concert, after ℃-ute had disbanded, it started to rain. Oda: Yeah. Satou: And Masa thought "Ahh, Yajima-san must be feeling relieved now.". Oda: Yeah. Satou: That's when I felt like crying for some reason. All of a sudden. Oda: That's so nice. Satou: Yeah, I suddenly felt like crying. Oda: It's ironic... Ikuta: The thought of Yajima-san feeling relieved because it started to rain is kinda funny though. (lol) Oda: It's ironic that it didn't rain during her final concert if you think about it. Ikuta: True. It's kinda sad. Oda: It's amazing. Satou: Ah, really? Oda: It's like, the one time when everyone expects her to make it rain, she doesn't. (lol) Ikuta: Yeah, everyone was actually hoping she'd make it rain. (lol) Oda: Lots of people were standing outside waiting for rain. Satou: Hehehe Yajima has always claimed to be a rain woman, i.e. a woman that always brings rain with her wherever she goes, so some fans expected her to cause a thunderstorm during the final concert. That's why Maachan is saying Yajima felt relieved when it did rain eventually after the concert.

Maachan: I'm finally starting to get the hang of how to use Japanese. Like when you say "Arigatou", where to put the "o" sound. Or the dashes and circles in Hiragana characters. I'm finally starting to understand all the lyrics in our songs.

Fukunura: No way.

Maachan: I'm serious! I'm not lying!

Ayumin: How old are you now, Maachan?

Maachan: Huh? I'm in third year of high school.

Ayumin: Whoa...

Fukunura: 18.

Maachan: But it's okay. Even people like me can still live their lives.

Ayumin: Yeah, you can. Let's keep living.

Maachan: And everyone tells me how much I've improved.

SATOYAMA & SATOUMI Club” #171 Navigator: Miyazaki Yuka (About the H!P concert rehearsals…) Miyazaki＜ Ah, there’s one more thing I want to tell you about that doesn’t have anything to do with Juice=Juice. During the H!P concert Generalprobe, umm, that’s what we call the rehearsals where we rehearse in an actual studio wearing our costumes, Morning Musume ‘17 member Satou Masaki-san came to Juice=Juice’s table and went on a rampage before she left. Hehehehe. I don’t know if you rampage is the right word, but she was like laughing like crazy the whole time. (lol) She’s such a cheerful and funny girl. It seems she was using my iPhone to take pics without my permission. (lol) But thanks to that, I have lots of pics I can post on my blog now. My impression of Satou-san is that she’s always laughing. I feel like there are so many interesting girls among H!P members. I’m sure I would have never realized it if it wasn’t for this H!P rehearsal. From now on, I’m going to try to talk to all kinds of other H!P members.
