Been watching my roommate play Mass Effect. Great game, but my one critique is that EDI needs a shirt

mass effect 2's cold opening of having to float your way through the destroyed normandy after being attacked by a giant hyperintelligence squid with the coldness of outer space, minimal lighting, and your breathing as the only sounds. i think the kids call that popping off

Mass Effect Andromeda is, of course, an imperfect game, but I remain absolutely enchanted with a couple things they did with the Angara still to this day:
1. They’re not a monoculture. Most often in sci-fi when we encounter aliens they’re all one culture. Not so, the Angara. One species, sure, but they’ve got different national identities for want of a better word.
2. Their history of having been space farers, losing that technological capability, losing the historical record of such capability, rediscovering it, and then voyaging out into the stars only to find that the people on other planets in their galactic cluster were also… them is such a meaty concept I want so much more of that

Okay not sure if anyone else has pointed this out but the end scene of Priority: Rannoch where Tali stands up to look at view and remarks that it is beautiful, Shepard doesn't turn to look to agree. Shepard is looking at Rannoch through the reflection on Tali's helmet. Seeing her home planet's beauty through her eyes almost. That scene always gets me because of that little detail.

I am getting irrationally angry at the game constantly insisting that loving Tali means wanting for her to remove the helmet. Like yes kisses are great and all following me here are well aware of my stance on alienkissing and if Tali insists and wants it it is fine and well but.
Can't I fall in love with her spirit? With the woman who traversed half the galaxy and meddled with mafia guys to bring back home information that could help her community? Can I not fall in love with her confidence? With her bright and curious outlook on life? With her knowledge of tech? With her quirky humor? With the way she wiggles when she stims? With the fact that she goes on, facing the future head-on, despite having so many reasons to despair? Have the writers never fallen in love with a person through sheer words without ever having seen their face? Because I have. And I say it is love and I say it is enough.
