The one crack theory hill I will die on until proven otherwise is that Yozora’s name is wordplay (which we know Nomura loves). Considering that Yozora is compared to both Sora and Riku…

I think it may be intended as a contraction of Yoake and Sora (Dawn and Sky).

夜明 + 空 = 夜空

Yoake (Dawn) + Sora (Sky) = Yozora (Night Sky)

Since Sora = Sky, it’s just a poetic kind of reference to his name in the lyrics, “kireina aozora”. Then in Sanctuary the lyrics are altered to “In you and I there’s a new land”, with Riku meaning Land. Since the songs are very overtly from Riku’s POV it can be read super romantic/pining. In the novels Riku gets all deep about the “sea” and “sky” when he’s being emo about Kairi and Sora lmao so it completely tracks with his character.
