Klätterberget / Climbers mountain / Varberga, Örebro / October 2024
Sculpture and placemaking project with MASU. A mountain of wood. A mountain to climb. A sculpture that is also a climbing place. In the continuation of the work with the site around Gröna villan in Varberga, Örebro, we worked with a climbing mountain similar to what we did in Bua 2020. The place and the process in Varberga have been very different with a two-year development project where we have had an artistically discussing role within the framework of Gestaltat livsmiljö. The first year focused on location and how a construction process could be allowed to meander and move in the meeting between the client (Örebrobostäder), landscape architects (DCL-13), artists (MASU) and various actors on site. In year two, we were commissioned to build a climbing mountain, a sculpture that is both its own work and part of Varberga Adventure Park. During the spring of 2024, we were on site with carpenters Lars Isestig, Kalle Ekroth and Joe Clark for two weeks and Klätterberget grew while the surrounding landscape was sculpted in place. During those weeks, the entire team lived in Varberga and we met both residents and those who work with maintenance, we worked in parallel with those who dug and laid stone, and on two Sundays we arranged barbecue meetings for those who were interested in talking about the development of the place. The sculpture is site-built with a load-bearing inner construction in wood and an exterior of larch. The highest point is 240 cm and all around there are wood chips for damping. Klätterberget is a place for slightly older children and youth and it is both a landmark on the site and part of the play environment.

Ett levande / A living / Residency ARNA / September 2024
Sculpture project with MASU. The meandering flow of water from the small stream that finally reaches the lake. The water is cold where it flows, but when it meets the big water, it mixes up and eventually becomes warmer than the air. Right at the point where the two waters meet, we started building with materials from the ongoing movement in the projects (Material) Site Recordings: 36 whole laths and 3 large plastic bags with broken ones. Normally we fasten with cable ties, but now we wanted to use textile to approach the site at a new pace. The fabric was pre-treated with soy milk to make the color stick better and during the work week we dyed in different colors, a new color every day, with plants that could be seen from our structure. The first day we built with undyed fabric and on the second day the fabric was in a bath with sedge and elderberry which gave the fabric a pink color, while the paper changed shade to blue when it dried. For the next bath we used nettles which dyed a faint green and finally a bath of green leaves which only gave a faint beige tone. When the fabric ran out during construction, we dyed a new one. Slowly, a stilt-like creature began to emerge from the water's edge, joined together by broken laths carried by whole sticks. The mergers took time. We had to be helped to hold to tie the knot. We didn't manage to come up with any system to merge all week. The small stream brings with it nourishment to the lake, nourishment that gives it its rich life. We wanted to work in both waters to visualize a union. First with uncolored bands, then red, the next day green and finally the beige ones. Gradually, the laths closest to land was taken down to be built up with a new color on the straps further out into the water. The work moved slowly out into the lake, like a hiker on his way to the deep. A quiet movement towards a living. The choice of location was obvious from the first moment, the flowing water, the constant change of its movements and the displacement of the meeting with the lake. The coloring became a way to take part in the place through a material. In addition to coloring our fabric, it became a material for documentation on paper. When the weather permitted, there were many visitors and conversations both about the art and Lake Vombsjön. We wanted to build in water, and we built with water. One saw the city, another saw oil rigs, someone saw only sticks but everyone saw something.

Torraka / Deadwood / Sjönevad / August 2024
Sculpture work with MASU. At the beginning of August 2024, we were part of Årstad's very temporary art gallery's summer exhibition "Art and Motor" with a performative sculpture project under Sjönevad's market, in Sjönevad. During the summer we had emptied our place in the forest in Skene for the project (Material) Location Recordings and in that movement we took the soundboard with us to Sjönevad. During four days of pouring rain, strong winds, funfair, helicopter flight and market, we built "Dry" on an open grassy area near the road. The work consists of 1400 battens and parts of them are painted in a gold ocher. The sculpture is both its own and part of (Material) Place Recordings and is clearly visible from all roads leading to the intersection in Sjönevad. In the strong wind on an elevated and open surface, the form has a distinctly low profile with dense movements that hold each other and anchor the structure to the site. The same material that we have worked with several times before, where the location clearly shapes the expression and the work. We worked during the market itself with helicopter flights overhead and fun in the fund. We had many visitors who were happy to talk about strength, engines, materials, the possible expression of art and the weather. The plan was to put the piece up for the four days the market was on and then tear it down the next day, but after talking with organizers of both the exhibition and the market we decided that it can stay for a while and stick to the ongoing story of a material that collects memories and echoes of places and situations in a slow movement across landscapes.

Salon de papier at Röhsska museet / 14 march 2024
A great evening at Röhsska with Tove Wahlin from legendary Rum för Papper. Tove walked the audience thru different paper, how it's made, what paper is good for what type of print and so on. Paper-school. Amazing.

Workshop at Malmöfestivalen August 2023 Work with MASU
We had 2500 wooden laths + cable-ties and black markers. The participants were asked to write about Their best place on the wood and then connect it to the sculpture forming on the site. We had over 1000 visitors per day on this 4-day sprint and the structure grew and got dense. After the workshop we gathered the laths and brought them in to the (Material) Site Recordings project.

Hyltan residency. 24 hour stay-over-residency at Hyltan, a small tea-house in the forest, organized by Camilla Johansson Bäcklund.
A posibility to stay in the forest to slow down, contemplate and perhaps draw. It was raining a lot. There was still time for both photography, drawing and cooking.
