5e introducing lore like 'most of Talona's clergy come from survivors of villages wiped out by plague' (SCAG) and 'Umberlee's temple is mostly staffed by widows and daughters who lost their family to the sea' (Murder in Baldur's Gate) really does fuel my 'Bhaal's clergy mostly comes from the orphaned children of murder victims raised by the priests' headcanon.

One part, 'you broke it, you bought it: orphans that need somebody to feed and house them and the state isn't doing it edition'; one part, 'you have been touched by this dark god and for some reason spared, therefore they must like you or want you alive for some reason and we assume you are now an offering to/chosen by that god. Pack your bags.'

I'd been sitting on the idea and visual for this scene for so long and I think it ended up being one of the most difficult to draw and write but I'm so pleased with it. Huge thanks to @satanicspinosaurus for helping to get Astarion's end rant suitably ranty.

This scene is a callback/progression to the end of Stealing Hearts, Astarion's just not been reacting well to overhearing Aldiirn's nighttime tooting. Maybe we'll find out why. 👀

what ending do all the companions get in Naadja's campaign?

hihihi sorry for the late response 😭 i finally got around to answering tho!!

Karlach:

Death. Naadja wasn't trying to get Karlach killed, she wasn't trying to save her either. they had a strained relationship to begin with but Karlach kept insisting she'd rather die than go to the hells which… yeah Naadja wasn't going to get in the way of that. She made her choice and Naadja, as sadistic as she can be, did care about Karlach and didn't want her to suffer for her already short life. So while they didn't get along much in life, Naadja recognized Karlach was making a choice for her death and was at least going to be there with her while it happened.

Wyll:

Ranger. Wylls father was indeed rescued and he broke his pact with Mizora so Wyll became a ranger. Naadja had toyed with the idea of him being the Duke of Baldur’s Gate after dethroning Gortash but decided against it seeing how hesitant Wyll was (something she could very easily manipulate but didn't care to do as she wasn't planning on sticking around)

Shadowheart:

Selunite. Shadowheart becomes a follower of Selune and a wanderer of the land. a bit aimless but free and unshackled by Shar. her parents unfortunately do pass as Naadja convinced her that her freedom was worth more than her family. Naadja stays with her for a short period of time in the epilogue and they keep in contact as close friends.

Lae'zel:

Orpheus. Lae'zel goes off to the astral plane to save her people. She carries the newly hatched Xan with her and is a competent diplomat- something she attributes to Naadja (bonkers considering Naadja's diplomacy skills are commanding enemies to commit)

Gale:

Professor. Naadja managed to convince Gale to give up on the crown *and* Mystra. Naadja is probably the worst person to give dating advice and worse still to give religious advice but somehow she of all people got his shit together

Astarion:

Spawn. okay this ones a bit trickier because there's a lot i left open ended but for brevity's sake I'll just say initially, he and all the spawn return to the underdark. more occurs past that point but he doesn't ascend for a number of reasons, the biggest being that Naadja is insecure and doesn't like the idea of Astarion holding that much of an advantage over her. the other being she is genuinely scared for his safety if he ascends. he also doesn't want her to be powerless post-game and return to the state she was in during act 2. so they come to a compromise where she offers him the power of her house once she obtains it (something he regrets immediately after killing Cazador btw but thats maybe a later discussion)

so all that to say he goes to the underdark with Naadja.

Minthara:

Menzoberranzan. also kinda complicated. i explained the ending here while keeping things a bit open bc im not completely set on the ending either but i like it so far! but anyway they go back to Naadja’s house first, not house Baenre! and end up killing Prae'anelle and Arazai. this ends up being a huge mistake and Naadja is no better for having gotten her revenge. if anything its worse because she has Lolth's attention and Menzoberranzan turns against her so the spawn are completely wiped out and Naadja, Astarion, and Minthara escape while Zafyna unfortunately stays and dies :/

so eventually they end up in Baldur’s Gate together they just take the long way there
