Aang: "I have a serious condition. It might be fatal."

Zuko: "Oh no! What is it?"

Aang: "I'm in Love!"

Zuko: "What?! Thats not fatal!"

Aang: "With Azula."

Zuko: "..."

"I stand corrected."

You know, in all fics that have Aang and Azula travel together, even fight together, yet have Azula hiding her identity nobody ever recognises her by her blue flames. They are very distinct after all.

And imagine zuko, sitting in his thrown room when a complettly terrefied courier comes barging in:

Zuko: "Why are you interupting my meeting?"

Courier: "Forgive me Firelord, but the avatar..."

Z: "Aang? What is the matter with Aang? I just received notice of his engagement."

C: "Yes Firelord, but the woman whos traveling with him, shes from the firenation and..."

Z: "Oh, is that it? Has there been another uproar about her? I mean, even i dont know much, but Aang assured me she was a lovely woman."

C: "No Firelord, they have been traveling in the Earthkingdom and..."

Z: "Oh, is Kuei throwing another hissy fit over the nationality of Aangs partner? Another selfrightous speech about..."

C: "FIRELORD, she was seen fighting with blue flames!"

Z: "..."

"Come again?!"

Katara: "Explain yourself, Aang! How could you fall for her?"

Aang: "I dont know. Maybe i like dangerous women? There is something attractive about a girl that could kick my ass."

Katara: "Seriously? Thats the dumbest reason i've ever..."

Sokka: "No, no, he's got a point."

Considering what we know about Aangs flirting from the show, azulaang would just be some fun and games for him.

That is until Azula feels comfortable enough to flirt back.

Now Aangs brain is shortcutting and he wont know left from right anymore.

I think azulaang would actually be more beneficial for Aang as the Avatar.

The duty of the Avatar is a lot of travel and a lot of peacekeeping between the nations. Katara still has her nation, which she feels strongly connected to for various reasons. She also wouldn’t be happy to see her home so rarely, now that the war is over and joy has returned and the rebuilding starts. Plus, If there was a Dispute between the Watertribe people and Firenation people, and the Watertribe people were absolutely in the wrong, Katara would have a hard time with choosing sides and probably still be on the side of her people.

I don’t think Azula still feels any connection to her Nation after everything, she could travel anywhere (well, maybe except Ba Sing Se for personal safety reasons) to enjoy the freedom she never had under Ozai. And most importantly, she would absolutely stand against some Firenation people trying to keep the war going, if not because she loves putting incompetent fools in their place, then to really rub it in Firelord Zuzus face that she does his job better than he does and the Avatar is on her side.

Aang: „Azula, wait!“

Azula: „Leave Avatar, I am busy. Go converse with your water tribe friend.“

Aang: „just a moment, please! What you did was…“

Azula: „exactly what was expected of a master as myself. No need for pleasantries, leave avatar.“

Aang: „but i dont understand what you…“

Azula: „what is there not to understand? Lightning can stop a heart, as proven by myself on numerous occasions. With a smaller charge on my hands it was only logical that i restarted your heart again. On that note, you water tribe friend might want to check if there is any of that poison left in your body. Now leave Avatar!“

Aang: „yes i know, but why did you even restart my heart? From the beginning of our journey you talked about bringing me down and getting your glory back! So why save me?“

Azula: „maybe i have grown fond of you aang. Maybe i dont want to fall back into bad habits and keep the companionship you so relentlessly pursue with me.“

Aang: „…did you just call me aang?!“

Azula [blushing]: „LEAVE AVATAR!“

Ok, so i had this idea:

Azula improving her firebending by training with aang.

Like iroh, she learns new firebending techniques from airbending, specifically improving her controlled-shockwave-bursts with which she can propel herself.

Secretly she perfects this technique to surprise aang when she joins him on a flight, him with his airglider, she with firebending.

There is one reason why Azulaang wouldn’t work out:

At one point, Aang will think it would be funny and cute to call Azula by „ZuZu“ as a nickname.

And Azula will IMMEDIATELY get divorce papers.

Sokka: „Aang, you really do have a type.“

Aang: „What are you talking about?“

Sokka: „Super strong Bender, considered a Master.“

Aang: „what are you doing?”

Sokka: „Mastered dangerous and rare sub-bending forms.“

Aang: „That is really pushing it.“

Sokka: „Considered strong, upfront and direct in private, dangerous in combat.“

Aang: „I don’t think you can apply…“

Toph: „Sister of best friend with severe mommy issues.“

Sokka: „wait, what?“

Aang: „Oh shit, I have a type!“

Sokka: „THATS WHAT CONVINCES YOU?!“

It’s interesting to think about what difference a canon azulaang would make in legend of korra.

1. Korra gaining Azula as a firebending teacher is the equivalent of typing /killall everytime somebody acts up

2. Book 3 wouldn’t be much of an issue. Since the red lotus tried to oppose azulas boyfriend, i dont think there is much red lotus left anymore.

3. Katara might have had enough understanding of the importance of bringing the air nomads back that she let aang have free reign, but azula would slap the shit out of him for an ounce of favoritism. Bumi, Ursa (formerly kya) and tenzin would be the ultimate trio.

Azula: „Why are you so mistrusting of my intentions regarding the Avatar?“

Katara: „You shot him with lightning and now you want to date him!?“

Azula: „The Avatar needed to know i was interested. You might say I was merely marking my territory.“

Katara: „There are less destructive ways, you could have just ask him out!“

Azula: „To subtle. I needed it to be in plain sight, something he can not ignore. If not, he would never have paid any attention to what i had to say.“

Katara: „That… is actually true. He can be rather dense.“

Azula: „Wait, you’re agreeing with me? Explain!“

*A short while later*

Katara: „And then he said "I rAtheR KisS yOu tHan diE, THaTs a cOmpLiMEnt!"“

Azula: [Facepalms] „I’m in love with a dumbass.“

The thing about arguments against azulaang that enoys me the most is when people say „They tried to kill each other!“

Thats were you’re wrong! Azula didn’t try.

Aang: „Please stop, you dont know what your doing!“

Zaheer: „This is the end for you Avatar! You are a disgrace to the world and we will free it from your incompetent ass!“

Aang: „Please listen to me, I’m trying to safe you!“

Zaheer: „You ugly ass egghead will die by our combined power, we will free the world!“

Aang: *sigh* „Just know that i tried to save you.“

*Aang steps aside, reveals Azula entering the room, clenched fist glowing with dark blue flames*

Azula: „WHICH OF YOU FUCKS IS TALKING SHIT ABOUT MY BOYFRIEND?!“
