Things i have gathered from watching both:

Maverick having a blacksheep Dad being the reason he doesn't get in is more believable when you realize that most of the boys in Taps come from military families and their standing would affect who gets into what college or branch of military.

Homophobia, should be much more present in Top Gun if Taps is anything to go by... and yet it is not... intresting.

Maverick Mitchell and David Shawn are very different charcters. Tom plays very different people in these movies.

People really need to do a Taps 1981 and Top Gun 1986 double feature to get some things...
