Here's a series of sketches I've done several Octobers back.

The sketches are dedicated to my favorite Russian urban fantasy series "Labyrinths of Echo". I was using Inktober prompts at the time, with a twist where each prompt has something to do with "Labyrinths"'s world and/or characters. Here's the list in order:

Mindless. The main character of the book series, sir Max, had an uncanny ability to bend the wills of other people using his "Deathly Orbs", which in normal mage's hands are meant to kill, but sir Max's non-violent nature distorted the effect to subjugate, rather than kill. Those hit by the Orbs are absolutely obedient, which is demonstrated when sir Max begged an affected person to be okay after what amounts to a car crash, and the person immediately recovered to full health.

Ring. The golden target-like ring pattern on sir Max's draped dress (called loohi [loh-OH-hee] in universe) is actually a mark bestowed upon him by the king, and means that he is a "Death in the Royal Service", which is supposed to intimidate the citizens of Echo more than anything else.

Freeze. One of sir Max's colleagues and closest friend, sir Shurf Lonli-Lokli, is using in his day to day work two enchanted gloves. The right one inflicts paralysis, while the left one disintegrates. Both are so powerful that Shurf is forced to wear magical containment mitts when not in combat.

Frail. Sir Nuflin Moni-Mah, the Arch-magister of the Order of Seven-Leaf Clover, was a pretty old and powerful mage, but his physique left much to be desired.

Enchated. As at the time of the events of early "Labyrinths" novellas the high-level magic was strictly prohibited in Echo, the fabled old-school cuisine was all but forgotten. However, through sir Max's participation, a new legislation was released that allowed the chefs and cooks to use a slightly higher than allowed level of kitchen magic. The Okholla Earrings were introduced to make sure their conjuring does not affect the gentle magical equilibrium.

Husky. Echo's venerable General of the Police, sir Booboota Boh, is just that, with booming voice and a potty mouth to match.

Swing. Booboota is a veteran soldier and knows little of more delicate police work. However, he's always the first to unsheathe his saber.

че-то подумал недавно, в первых книгах у макса из под ног выдернули привычную (хоть и нелюбимую) реальность его мира, потом затянули через портал в какое-то странное сновидение, дали привыкнуть к новой реальности, а потом научили открывать порталы в другие сновидения самому.

типо, эпизодически получается - явь, сон, явь, сон. забавно

есть кто из фанатов на этом сайте кто мне может объяснить тему со вторыми и тенями. смысл добавлять по сюжету людям вторых, если тени по сути выполняют ту же роль

I found an oldie and I love these characters, so deal with me posting them when literally noone asked for it. Ser Shurf and Ser Max from Max Frei’s book series. I’d fanart the sh*t out of her (and other) books, but I fell like there’s no audience for that.

8/31. Сначала тень, потом деньги

Этим вечером положу на прилавок себя и смерть, буду ластиться тихой кошкой, шептать: «Но сэр! Вам ведь камру лекарством не назначали». Ты засмотришься, незабвенный, ведь ты в печали, а печальные все немного, но дураки. Я не знала, что будет, если хоть на полпальца нацедить волшебное в твой бокал, и представляла, мечтая (да, ты не агнец), как звёзды расползаются по телам. Вот только местные легенды-то правдивы, что ужасают и пугают детективом своих детей, воров и беглецов. От сыска мне хотелось лишь покоя, но кто же знал, что ты из тех героев, что столь очаровательно бесстыдны и защищают городские ритмы, за сердце мира головой стоя. Один бокал, один глоток. Я правда не хотела. Любовь и магия положены для дела, однако нынче дело — это рок. Моей слезой положено начало наших дорог: за смерть твою я отвечала, и был отчётливо усвоен тот урок... Будем считать, за камру ты заплатил, а Тень без сердца вполне обойтись способна. Шальная ночь прошла, сгорел фитиль, и скоро стихнет пульс, что стучит дробно.

Максфраевщина. Голимая. Внезапно...
