Animation has gone through many different improvements in the past years. Just looking at the details that improved in the characters since Toy Story 1 really shows the improvement of computer software and hardware. Toy Story 1 utilized a 1.85:1 aspect ratio while Toy Story 4 expanded to 2.39:1 (Desiderio, K. & Phillips, I., 2020). The details back in 1995 shown by the computer animated characters were already groundbreaking since the movie was of its first of being Pixar's and the world's first computer animated feature film. Comparing the details from the first movie to the fourth movie shows the massive improvement of detail just like the addition of fur on one character then leading it to be added to a hundred more. According to Mark Pickavance from Den of Geek, it is inapplicable to acknowledge the importance of Toy Story in the history of CGI. Toy Story has changed the animation world forever. The improvement of the character of Woody was amazing with the added details to the character, for example, the scratches on the Woody, the attention to detail on the character. 

It shows how much computer animating has improved through the years. The animators in Toy Story 4 used pictures in real life situations as a reference for future animating purposes, while in Toy Story, they use the toys that they already have to design the characters in their computers. Seeing these changes amazes many people due to the many improvements to each and everyone of the characters. Seeing the way, the animators control the joints of the characters makes it so much easier for them to work around animating the Toy Story 4 characters compared to the Toy Story 1 characters. Lastly, both designs of the characters in both movies are beautiful and amazing in their own way, it’s just that the Toy Story 4 characters have more life and detail added to them.
