I grew up with a grandma who quilted, but she’d never been interested in passing along the hobby, so when she finally kicked it I was the grandkid who got all her materials, ‘cause I was the only one who knew how to use a sewing machine. Then, in 2015, a friend had a baby and I figured I’d make her a quilt, ‘cause how hard could it be?

Luckily I am the stubbornest human alive, ‘cause I never woulda finished otherwise. I didn’t know what I was doing, didn’t know the terms to look up how to do anything, I musta reinvented the wheel like eight times and it took ten months, BUT I DID IT.

Figured I’d suffered enough and would never do it again and now I’m on quilt #9 smdh

Help needed for newborn kittens!

Hey guys! So as your may or may not know, my partner @cassasart and i had a VERY pregnant, VERY skinny cat hanging around our new apartment after we moved in. She had a filthy collar on that was falling apart and kept trying really hard to come inside, meowing at the door. She was obviously not feral, but probably abandoned. We set up bedding and kept feeding her while we discussed how we could help. Eventually, we reached the decision to adopt her, and lovingly named her Beau!

We set up a (free) vet appointment and brought her inside the night before. Because of how malnourished she was, we were uncertain if she or the babies would make it if/when she gave birth. While at the vet, we found that she didn’t have a microchip, and when they took her for a ultrasound…

Boom! Labor! And a few hours later, we had seven whole healthy kittens, pictured here at 2 weeks old!

The babies were born on August 24th. It is September 8th, 2019 at the time of my writing this post, and after much fretting over the mom’s and the babies’ medical treatment, and radio silence from the adoption groups in the SA area, we decided to ask for help. 

We need money for vet care and food for Beau and her babies! 

Mom went into labor at the vet before she could be tested for any significant diseases, and we need vet support to make sure the kittens grow up healthy and make it to adoption age!

We have calculated that for the next 6 weeks, we will need up to $500 to ensure that all necessary medical care can be given and so we can provide all necessary supplies for these babies! 

I have attempted to reach out to shelters and foster groups for support, but have yet to hear back due to the high volume of stray pets in my city. Anything helps, even just reblogs! We want to make sure that these kittens stay healthy and make it to good homes!!

TL;DR: We need money for the vet care of 7 kittens and their mother! Every reblog and every little bit donated would be a huge help!

nah. i get your point op, and i think that survivors and otherwise should be able to write about the hard things.

the problem is that a lot of these hard things aren’t written, to be frank, well. like. they’re just bad. rape, pedophilia, abuse, etc are often written into smuts or otherwise sexual fiction.

even as a survivor, you have to be aware of what you put into the world. i don’t care if it’s for coping. even if you experienced the horrible, terrible things you write, you HAVE to be aware of how they will be perceived.

as a survivor myself, i don’t care if you’re a survivor. writing things like rape, brutality, pedophilia, etc in a romanticized light is bad. that’s it. it’s producing media that can and has been used to justify atrocities.

sure. write what you want. no one can stop you. it’s important for people to be educated on sensitive topics.

but sensitive topics require sensitive writing. rape isn’t hot. pedophilia isn’t hot. abuse isn’t hot. it’s not fun. stop writing steamy “noncon” fanfictions. stop writing all abuse survivors to be sexually submissive, subservient weaklings. stop writing ”healthy” pedophilic relationships.

write with more care. more awareness. write like you actually fucking care about survivors. write about these horrible things like they’re actually fucking horrible. thanks.

The constant attempted shaming and silencing of survivors on this hellsite? that makes me deeply uncomfortable.

Every time someone writes “you can’t write about that even if you’re a survivor and if you do you have to keep it to yourself”, what I read is the implied “you can’t write about your own trauma with the comforting distance of putting it on fictional characters, and if you do you’re not allowed to look for validation from other people.”

I read “you can’t share your story because it makes me uncomfortable to see it”.

I read “you should just be ashamed of the bad things that happened to you”.

I read “you should just suffer in silence”.

People act like not talking about abuse can… somehow stop it? And that’s not how it works. Shaming survivors only makes it easier for abusers to manipulate their victims. Silence protects abusers from discovery. It harms survivors by not letting them have the catharsis of understanding, and keeping them from support.

And I don’t feel like it’s anyone’s place to tell a survivor they have to out themselves to share, either.

So yeah. It’s not the only reason I’m anti-censorship, by a long shot, but there’s one reason I’m very much not on the side of “bad things can’t ever be written”- or on the side of shaming people who do write “bad things”, no matter what apparent reasons they have.
