I'm absolutely devastated by the Kyoto Animation studio fire that's burned so many and has even taken lives. Regardless of them being my favorite anime studio, making my favorite works in animation history, these are people who lost their lives to a psychotic monster today. May the victims rest in peace and those alive find peace one day :(

hey did you hear that one of KyoAni's studios got attacked by an arsonist :(
I actually hadn’t. I went to read the article and holy shit, this was super serious. According to the news, this is what happened:
There was an explosion-like fire in the studio and took up a big part of it. When the article was posted, the firefighters and police were working on it, but the fire had not yet been extinguished.
The police found a guy pouring a gasoline-like thing nearby and arrested him. They’re questioning him about what happened.
It hasn’t yet been confirmed whether or not the fire spread to the neighboring houses and buildings.
The facility that got attacked is called “the first studio”. It’s KyoAni’s main studio, which was founded in the 50′s. It’s the very core of the company as a whole.
Apparently, the arsonist was purposefully targeting the employees. A woman came running out of the studio covered in flames asking for help and saying that the man had poured gasoline directly on her.
The arsonist sent a death threat to KyoAni before the attack. The president of the company told the news that, although they don’t get protests on a daily basis, they do deal with it often. This was far from the first time that they had received a death threat. They normally resolve it with lawyers and protocol, but it takes a while and it seems that the attacker was much too fast.
NHK has confirmed multiple deaths. The number of fatalities is 33 so far, which is about half of the 70 people who were in the studio at the time of the attack.
I’m baffled. Honestly never saw that shit coming. I’m just praying that the guy behind this will be punished.
Also, Sentai Films has created a donation page for KyoAni. They’re already past half of their goal and I think that’s amazing. Let’s keep this going, guys.
Help KyoAni Heal!

Today, the world lost a number of talented people at Kyoto Animation, an anime studio responsible for a number of great and well-known works of Japanese animation, such as Full Metal Panic!, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Clannad, and many, many others. Keep the survivors and the studio in your thoughts and prayers, and also take this time to appreciate the hard work they did for all of their fans, hard work they were in the middle of doing when tragedy struck…because at this point, I don’t know if we’ll see more of it in the foreseeable future.

This is truly a loss…
EDIT #1: And to think this atrocity happened to THE studio famous for treating its employees right and therefore producing more higher-quality content, an antithesis to the notorious standards of the overall anime industry… I’m not saying any anime studio deserved this, but…why?
EDIT #2: Please don’t believe the headline of the above news article. I’m sorry to say this but that headline’s outdated. The incident is now a whole lot worse than you’d think.

This is so powerful and courageous. Police all over the country are pulling this despicable shit. They’re supposed to be protecting and serving. Monsters.

in honor of trans day of remembrance, id like to take the time to talk about my fav trans actress that not a lot of people know about: maddie blaustein!!

she was a voice actress for various anime and video games, but she was mostly known for her work as meowth from pokemon!!

she voiced him for eight seasons until the VAs were replaced, and she considered him her favorite role!! she wrote some episodes of the show and said that the episode that revealed meowths backstory (how he learned to talk and was rejected by his kind until eventually finding a home in team rocket) inspired her to come out as trans!!
she also wrote and edited several comics!! she worked for both marvel and dc for a while and created a trans woman protagonist named marissa rahm for a mini series called deathwish!!

she was also known for being a very active player of the game “second life” back when it was popular and became a respected member of the community. her character was named kendra bancroft

unfortunately she died in december 2008 of a stomach virus, but she will always be remembered as a passionate activist for lgbt rights!! after coming out as trans, it was very difficult for her to find more voice acting roles due to the transphobic industry, but she was supported by her friends on the pokemon staff and online. she was a very sociable person who wasnt afraid to speak her mind and stand up for what she believed in

rip maddie, and happy trans day of remembrance!!

Things that should surprise absolutely no one: The police expressing empathy with self proclaimed Nazis and white supremacists. Police supporting white nationalists and collaborating with them to prosecute the victims of Nazi violence. The fact that this has been going on long before Trump was ever a presidential candidate, and won’t suddenly disappear after he is out of office. This is the history of policing and anti-Blackness in America. It’s American history.
