Hey Neil.

I'm a YA author from Hungary. We have new anti-lgbt laws in my country, and they affect books as well. I spoke up against these laws a couple of months ago, and some people threatened to spit on me at my book signings. I've always turned to your works and words of encouragement in hard times, but lately I feel I need a real pick-me-up as an author. And sadly, I feel like some of my childhood favorites, whom I always looked up to, have taken the wrong turn somewhere, and that breakes my heart. I wish I could turn to them for comfort as well. Can you give us authors some advice how to tune out the noise of those who try and bring us down, when we stand up for and write about queer people, women's and minority rights? I always try to look within, to reevaluate my moral compass, to check if I'm still doing or writing the good thing, and fighting the good fight. It's getting harder. Sometimes I'm even afraid to write.

Write your books. Write the stories you need to write. Be brave.

AO3 IS IN TROUBLE IF CALIFORNIAN AGE VERIFICATION LAW PASSES

An upcoming Age verification bill centered in California will be voted on Monday-- And as always,instead of actually protecting kids, it will lead to more online censorship and privacy risks, as it will force websites hosting to verify their users age by sending their ID, your browser history would be linked to it. if you live California, call your reps and tell them to oppose the bill AB3080 as it highly unconstitutional.

They also deem LGBT content harmful to minors, as well as mentions of weapons and tobacco, putting them on the same level as NSFW content.

Since AO3 headquarters reside in California, much like Reddit, Twitter,Discord and Youtube (and others) who knows how bad the effects would be. Instead of just effecting Californians (even then its concerning.) the effects would be US or even worldwide. VPNs wont help.

Really wish words like “crossdresser” and “transvestite” didn’t get pushed out of people’s vocabulary cause now we’ve got 20yr olds who genuinely believe the two modes of expression are True Transgender and Valor Thief. Seeing takes like “men dressing as women is making a mockery of the transfeminine experience” (predominantly regarding F1nn5ter or celebs in skirts). Like ohhhh you are so right! We need to protect the divine feminine from any measure of mockery. You know what? We should gather weapons and storm our nearest Drag Story Hour and teach those degenerates a lesson.
