Do you think there's a chance a streaming service will pick ncis:h? I've signed the petition but do we dare to hope? I'm tired of this happening all the time. I just dont understand. It was doing fine in ratings and it's a part of a franchise that keeps getting more spin offs? How that makes sense? Do you know the ratings compared with the others ncis shows? Sorry im asking you but im not from usa and i have no idea how american netwoks work. So sad rn.
okay SO i am also not from the us but have done this dance before sooooo:
1) from what i’ve heard, they were planning to move either another ncis show (i think sydney?) or another cbs show to paramount plus - which they now are no longer doing. in theory yes, this opens up the possibility for ncishi to move over there; in practice, i’m not holding my breath, as typically that negotiation would happen before a cancellation announcement
2) how does it make sense? the honest answer is that it doesn’t. like, it really doesn’t. it’s been holding steady at sixth of 14 cbs shows in the ratings (which is a brilliant number, ensures it’s profitable, and is also impressive for a procedural that’s still relatively new). it’s been beating a LOT of other crime procedurals in viewership and viewer retention, and reviewers have been singing its praises. i think this is why it feels so much as if it’s because they just view this show as less valuable (socially and economically) than their usual white guy cop shows; it’s very difficult to argue that your profitable, successful show is too expensive when you’re flying filming crews to sydney, australia, to continue a less-highly-rated show with no issue.
3) as far as ratings go - ncis hawai’i episodes were pulling in as many as 10 million viewers last year (s2 e10 came in with 10.5 mil, as per variety telecast viewership reports) which has it going toe to toe with the core ncis (seems to pull approx. 8-10mil per episode, via hollywood reporter). for the 18-49 demographic across us series, ncis hawaii is ranking at #13 of #21 as per tvseriesfinale.com - this is significantly above ncis sydney (renewed, #15), and elsbeth (#19, renewed), two other cbs shows, one of which in particular is incredibly expensive. crucially, ncishi has actually increased its viewership, which is VERY difficult to do on a year to year basis. its up by 4.18% among 18 to 49 year olds - for comparison the core NCIS is down 0.83% and fbi international - a competing show - is down by 3.73%. bear in mind that even a single percentage point represents hundreds of thousands of viewers.
i also want to point out that ranking at #13 isn’t strictly representative of viewer numbers, it’s about percentage of viewers that are within that core age bracket. the neighbourhood is ranking at #6, but only pulling in 4.8 million viewers - ncishi is at #13, and pulling in 5.2 million. ncishi pulls in over half a million more viewers than four shows ranked above it in that chart.
so essentially - it doesn’t make sense. from any perspective. it doesn’t make sense from a business perspective (ncis sydney is more expensive to produce and brings in approx. 200k less viewers than ncishi, and ncishi crew had already agreed to a shortened, budget-restrained final season), it doesn’t make sense for a ratings perspective (it continues to outperform many of cbs’ own shows, including ones that have been renewed), it doesn’t make sense from a social perspective (people are loving it, even outside of our fandom spaces).
objectively, it’s a really, really bad move by cbs. i also thought being part of a franchise would be a kind of safety net - fool me once, i guess. all the evidence suggests that they just don’t care enough about ncishi, especially when they’ve got their bullshit white guy ncis origins show, a young sheldon spinoff (?? who asked?) and a plethora of other cookie-cutter shows they can just keep going with. and we can make a pretty educated guess as to why, when the main things that set ncishi apart from the other ncis shows are its diversity and character dynamics

[Maya] didn’t know what love was until she met Carina. Now she knows what love is, and she’s willing to put aside her competitive nature and her flaws to really make sure that love is the focal point and is what really matters in life. - Danielle Savre

I really hate the term "baby of her/their own" when referring to pregnany. It feels so old fashioned to me. As if an adopted kid isnt your own. It is in the actual important ways.
I don't like it either and cringed when I saw that in the article. Blood/genetics doesn't make a family and you'd think we'd be past things like that being said at this point. And especially when they are saying it after saying they have a newborn son implying that he isn't a baby of their own? Just not the way to go about it.

I'm pretty sure they don't read fanfiction or anything but they do know what it is as they get drawings of them with kids, they see fans talking about it so it's just a way to say "it's gonna a lot of what you have been wanting/dreaming" so I don't get the drama or even the assumptions
let's be honest, all the things that could come close to be similar to a fanfiction are pretty common troops...
I mean fanfiction is a pretty specific term to use as opposed to saying fan theories that they would see on Twitter or when Danielle asks for guesses on Instagram so I would think they'd know the difference? But yeah obviously we aren't going to know for sure what they mean. I'm not a fic writer so I'm not going to speak on how they should feel about the idea of them possibly reading their fic.

Wonder how fans would feel if CBS drops Hawaii and picks up Station 19. Pulling a ABC move. That would put you in an awkward place?
I don't see it happening at all honestly. CBS already has a full slate so I don't think it's anything to even consider. It's clear these main networks have their own agenda and which shows are the first to be at their disposal.

if cbs can change their minds and renew swat for s7 and 8 then they should have no problem doing the same for ncis hawaii it's also on cbs and the ncis is a beloved cash cow franchise for cbs and paramount. That said, the fact that the latter is more female centric with a woc as the main lead and has a wlw couple might make that a little challenging
It's a different situation because CBS decided to uncancel SWAT twice (for whatever reason) but NCIS Hawaii is part of a franchise that now has multiple spinoffs and they said part of the reason NCIS Hawaii would be in danger of cancellation was due to budget and so first they were going to shorten it and now they just decided to not even give them that season to wrap it up so I can't see them changing their mind especially with all those other spinoffs in place and the CBS fall lineup full now.

The last 2 part episodes are probably Sam focus too. They could at the very very very minimum give them a short season to wrap thing up. This feels brutal! I’m not motivated to get into any new show in the future not watching any new spinoff and I’m so bitter right now I hope they do horrible
Like the whole season has been? He's taken up way too much screentime and has messed up all of the dynamics, especially the ones with Jane since she's had most of her scenes with him. I really can't believe this is how the show is going to end, with a shortened season that barely had any Kacy and had way too much focus on a boring new character that they never should have made a regular to begin with. It's all so messed up.

we went from having a sea of wlw representation to now mere crumbs of wlw representation in television. It's infuriating and gross and the networks don't care
It's awful. We have taken so many steps back when it comes to representation and it's sad. They have no problem using our stories for clicks and money when it suits them but then when they find something else they're ready to throw it in the garbage like it means nothing. Absolutely disgusting behavior and can only hope karma gets them for it.

Here we go again having to try and save another show with wlw representation. Whether you watch the show or not, if you could take a second to sign the petition it would be greatly appreciated. Our voices needed to be heard and they need to know our representation matters and we aren't going anywhere ❤️

We’re really losing Marina and Kacy in the same year. They aren’t even giving NCIS Hawai’i a shortened season to wrap things up. There will only be one wlw ship on cable tv after this year. Both Station 19 and NCIS Hawai’i are two incredibly successful shows with more than respectable ratings. How did we get here? Truly at a loss for words. It’s always our representation that is first to go.

Wait ali didnt even find out about her divorce in person? She found out through a TEAMMATE?? While TRAINING??
Yes that’s correct. Ashlyn didn’t tell her she was filing. She found out through a teammate who saw a People Magazine article online. Which was released three days before what could have been the last game of her soccer career. Which was in October, several months after the summer Sophia keeps mentioning that Ashlyn was supposedly already ‘newly separated’ and they had their four and a half hour meal discussing this at Cannes (in June) while Ali was home with their children waiting for Ashlyn to join them again.
Here is Ali talking about it a little bit:

How many siblings does Stef have? I hadn’t realized she had a big family.
I think she has a brother and then her sister who passed. Her brother is pretty private though so I don’t really know much about him.

didn’t carina say i love to to maya in 6x05 when she did that surprise or did i make that up lmao?
No you’re right! Totally forgot about that for some reason. I remember them both saying they missed each other in that episode/scene but then Carina did slip in a I love you when she gave Maya her little speech. But the point still stands that I want a mutual one lol
