Fake news is everywhere, and it's uncontrollable; You should always fact-check information before sharing it with others. It will help a lot!

Issue 3: The continued observance of the minimum health protocols is NOT only to mitigate the risks of contracting CoVid, but also adopting it as a "way of life".

1. Be a responsible citizen and always follow the health protocols.

2. Get the vaccine that is best for you.

3. Go with the flow and never neglect to switch to the new normal.

Change is scary, but it is normal. Following the health protocols would help us transition quickly to the new and better normal.

My Broadcasting Guide

Taking this course in college was a tough decision because, first, I didn't have any background in journalism or broadcasting. Still, I always admire all broadcasters/journalists that I see on tv because I like how confident they are. At the end of the day, I still decided to pursue this course because I know I can learn how they learned.

This activity helped me realize that I still have a long way to go. I still have a lot to learn—first, my confidence in speaking in front of the camera. Second, the way I pronounce the words. I pronounce it correctly, but it's not that good if I'm going to be a broadcaster. Third, the facial expressions, I need to work on the facial expression that I make when speaking. These are just some of the things that I should work on. But all in all, I had fun doing this activity. It made me practice and learn all sorts of things when it comes to broadcasting.

Who is Jacque Manabat On & Off Cam?

ABS CBN is one of the most popular media companies in the Philippines, and we can't deny that the news they present is reliable and the truth. Every news report that we watch is a team composed of beautiful members, and one of them is Ma'am Jacque Manabat.

Ma'am Jacque Manabat is a graduate of Saint Louis University with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication last 2006. She was a news reporter at ABS - CBN RNG from 2006 -2007 and an ABS- CBN executive producer from 2008 - 2010. She is now a Senior Multiplatform Journalist, wherein she tackles Transportation, Travels Consumer, and soon the elections.

The Journey To Comm

Ever since Ma'am Jacque was young, she was already interested in how news works, and she knew already that she would be a committed media practitioner.

She was part of the white and blue in college while her husband was the editor in chief. Ma'am Jacque was inspired to be a journalist because of a martial law documentary, which showed how journalists fought for the freedom of speech.

When she graduated college, her priority was working in ABS - CBN because of their values and being the people's voice.

Facing The Hardest Decision in Life

When the pandemic struck, life gave her a challenge, and it was whether she would leave ABS - CBN or not. She answered with, “Pero sabi nga nila kapag nasusunog yung bahay mo? Will you walk out and run away from it? Or will you go there and help them, you know... Put out the fire?” And in the end, she still chose to stay because of loyalty, and ABS - CBN made her dreams come true.

The Media Life

After graduating, her first job was at ABS - CBN Baguio, and she eventually got transferred to ABS - CBN Dagupan. Then to the ABS - CBN main office in Manila. She tried producing current affairs programs like Matang Lawin, Failon Ngayon, etc., and then went back to reporting.

Every time she sees herself on television, she cringes because she doesn't like delivering and producing the news. She says she still has a lot to fix.

Ma'am Jacque was sued when she released facts about an anomaly in the financial report of MRT 3 in 2015. She wrote a news report on how they're not buying spare parts in Germany where they should be purchased, but instead, it was purchased from their family member, which was illegal. Her career was on the line, and it challenged her credibility, but she was able to back it up with research and knowledge. She was scared for her career but brave enough to feature the story.

As a reporter, she always promotes responsibility and ethical journalism because she believes people should be responsible for their actions.

The Legacy of Ma'am Jacque Manabat

Ma'am Jacque is not different from others because she is still starting and learning. Her ultimate goal is to effect change in the world. The goal is to change the world for the better through one story at a time.

She is not just Jacque Manabat; she is Jacque Manabat of ABS - CBN News. She is persistent; she questions everything and challenges everything she learns about.

She is Jacque Manabat.

Screen Test

Having make-up on makes a person more confident with themselves. Honestly, This will be my first time applying make-up on myself. I don't do make-up on my own; mostly, I ask my cousin to put it on me because I don't know how to. Learning how to apply to make-up is challenging, especially for me, a first-timer. But it was worth a try; it was fun learning and blending with all of that stuff. I couldn't say I got the hang of it, but I am learning.

On The Road To Happiness & Contentment w/ Ms. Rhea Asuncion

Every television show that we watch has another side of the story to tell. Behind the tv shows are researchers who break their backs for us. They work 24/7, making sure that the show's flow is organized, planned, and entertaining for the viewers. Ms. Rhea Asuncion - one of the researchers from the GMA network, is a graduate of Saint Louis University with a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Communication.

She graduated last 2019, and in the same year, she became a part of the GMA network, starting with the TV show "The Unang Hirit."

The Journey to Comm

Before stepping into the media life, she was undecided about what she will be pursuing in college. At first, she thought of taking pre-law or Political Science but followed her parent's advice to take pharmacy, and she did, took an exam in SLU but unfortunately, she didn't pass because there was a quota.

Remembering that she had a background in radio broadcasting in high school and was active in conferences in elementary, she decided to take Mass Communication and instantly fell in love with it.

Ms. Rhea had a memorable college life where she was active in every contest of the Mass Communication Society, but what she considered the most notable was joining DokyuBata, wherein their documentary won.

Facing The Hardest Decision in Life

Before facing the media industry, she first made one of the most complex decisions she made in her life: being away from her parents and going to the real world at the age of 19. It wasn't easy, and she realized she still had a lot to learn. She even wondered if she should continue pursuing the field, but eventually, she dared to pursue it and got used to that kind of setup.

The Media Life

When her first project with KMJS (Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho) appeared on Television, she would burst into tears because of happiness and seeing that all their hard work had paid off.

When it comes to being a journalist, she can't say that she's already a pro in what she's doing because she hasn't been in the media industry for that long. But, she admires that a journalist has excellent interpersonal skills; no matter how hard the work is, they still manage to make a way to reach out to those people who are hard to talk to.

As a researcher, she makes sure never to forget the word "respect." because, in her opinion, respect is always a must no matter how high a person's position is.

Related to that, when considering a topic for the show, they would always think about its impact on the people and their case studies who they feature. No matter how good the subject is, they would make sure that everyone is comfortable showing it or not. It is more on the impact.

Sometimes, she finds it hard to find motivation and excitement in her line of work, but she always chooses to look at the impact and how they could help others even in the smallest act possible. That motivates her to continue.

The Legacy of Ms. Rhea Asuncion

Ms. Rhea Asuncion is not just a researcher but also a friend, especially in her case studies. She makes sure to stand by her goal, which is to reach her own definition of success: to be stable in life and happy with everything she does and the decisions she makes. Other than that, she doesn't just want to be a researcher alone in the future, but she aims to produce a segment of her own. She goes by that mantra, " if you can dream it, you can do it."

A Message From Her To Us

Her advice to students or people who are struggling in this pandemic is that we are not alone. Everyone is affected by the pandemic, and they, too, are struggling. They just have to choose what works best for their struggles. When times get rough, they have to choose the people they can rely on and be their support system.

My Favorite News Personalities

When I was in elementary, every time I would wake up to go and prepare for school, my aunt would always turn on the tv and watch the news or any morning show. The shows that my aunt would watch are exciting, and that was one of the reasons I would go to school late.

One of my favorite news presenters in the Philippines is Maria Jessica Aspiras Soho, simply known as Jessica Soho. Growing up, the television show Kapuso mo, Jessica Soho, kept me all night every Sunday night. Because of her exciting stories, it will be tough to sleep early for the night.

One of the reasons why I admire her so much is that she loves her job. And also her bravery and her honesty. Every time that I would watch her, it gives me the feeling of excitement because of how she tells her story. She tells her story confidently; that's why people say that she is fair and not bias. Also, I love how she always takes the risk. Even though she knows that something is dangerous, she still does it anyway. By doing those things, it seems like I am also with her in the field. She tries her best to be in the area, no matter what happens, giving the audience an incredible experience.

An International news presenter that I look up to is Anderson Hays Cooper. He is best known as the anchor of the Cable News Network (CNN). I love how he started as a self-taught journalist; that gives me more reason to thrive, especially in this pandemic where we can only rely on ourselves in learning our future profession. Also, I admire him for being open and honest. Though a person doesn't need to reveal their private life events, he admitted it anyway. I love how he's proud of who he is. He didn't deny nor rejected his characteristic. I think that people should be like him, open and honest.

Roque: A Friend Or A Foe?

We all know who Harry Roque is. He's all over the news almost every day. Who wouldn't forget such a face? Harry Roque is a Filipino lawyer, politician and now serving as a spokesperson for the President. I admit that Harry Roque is a smart man because if he isn't, he won't stand where he is right now. Roque wouldn't have a place in the government. But what alarms me is, despite being a smart man, he chooses to turn a blind eye towards one of the most alarming issues in the Philippines, which is about the West Philippine Sea and China.

"We will agree to disagree on the arbitral award, and we will proceed with our friendly relations. 'yong mga bagay bagay na pwedeng isulong, isusulong. 'Yong mga hindi pwedeng iresolba ngayon, isasantabi."

Those were his exact words in an article by CNN Philippines about the topic of the Sea and China. In every article that I have read about Harry Roque, I notice that he always wants to get on the good side of China. He prioritizes befriending the country instead of looking for ways for the Philippines not to lose its territory.

He is all about words, but not with actions. He's good with words but not good enough to make a change or not good enough to fool the Filipinos. He is the President's spokesperson, and he is required to be honest with all the things he's going to say or do.

But with all of the issues and events that are happening, he isn't entirely honest at all. But that is just my point of view. Because I think, in every statement that he releases, it is just an act to get the trust of the Filipinos.

If you ask me if he could be one of the country's subsequent presidents, My answer would be a no. Why? If his words today are unreliable and his actions are questionable, what more when he becomes the President? The country had suffered enough at the hands of the past Presidents. Our country needs people who care for the Philippines and its people.

In my humble and honest opinion, Harry Roque can still improve; he just needs to learn how to stand up independently without depending on anyone. He needs to learn to love his own country and improve his actions.

The Filipinos need someone who has the guts to fight for the country, the one who wouldn't back down without a fight, the one who isn't just good with words but also with their actions.

2022 Presidential Election: An end or continuance of hunger?

A year of seclusion and a year of misery. These are the biggest tests the Philippines is going through today due to the widespread impact of Coronavirus in the world. Due to successive lockdowns and quarantines in the country, the government and its officials are where people rely for financial assistance. But most of them failed and their only grievance was "if now is the election, campaigners would have lined up to help." But now that the election is upcoming, are Filipinos ready for a change in history?

The Presidential Election 2022 is fast approaching and the names that want to run for national office are coming out. However, according to a statement by former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, next year's election could be "the dirtiest and most vicious" yet in the history of the country, because President Rodrigo Duterte will allegedly fight and protect for the policies made in his administration. Indeed, in spite of the fact that under the current constitution, President Duterte isn’t qualified for re-election and with the election just year away, Dutertismo shows up to be prepared for a second term. Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, the President’s daughter; Representative Bong Go, his previous long-time aide; and PDP-LABAN Manny Pacquiao are topping the surveys in pre-election presidential overviews. Even though Sara Duterte insist she won’t run for presidency, posters and banners have popped up across country despite restriction. If in matter Sara runs presidency or not, she is the only one who can shield her father from the court cases that will surely hound him after his term ends. Even previous Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr, who’s Duterte’s second in command in 2016, is in second place in the survey polls. The fact that a Duterte and a Marcos are in the lead of presidency survey, suggests that Filipinos never learn from history and destined to repeat it again.

Be that as it may, opposition groups within the Philippines have joined strengths in a bid to defeat the party or anointed successor of Duterte, named 1Sambayan (One Nation/One People) which highlights the call for solidarity to overcome Duterte. Driving the opposition is retired Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio and emphasized the require for Anti-Duterte forces to join together ahead of the 2022 surveys. The opposition is working to cement their ground and they have most of the goods on their side since the present government has only bungled from one crisis to another. Will the opposition, as everybody craves, be the new administration that will save the country?

The election results will define Philippine history’s heroes and reprobates. To the people who are eligible to vote, choose someone who go beyond general statements and offers a clear policy on dealing with the country’s problems. And remember that those who have inkling on the economic growth of the Philippines are the best candidates for presidency. Hopefully Philippines will be able to have a celebration for the 2022 election. Intervene, render your judgment through votes and be part of the change.
