Absolutely obsessed with the fact that they just reader-inserted Glen Powell into Top Gun: Maverick.
Like it's a great story abt how he auditioned and they made a part for him and Tom Cruise talked him into it.
But also, I swear everything I see about them talking about the characterization is just like, "Yeah that was just Glen throwing darts. Everyone was impressed and they kept it in." or "Glen insisted on the toothpick.", or "Glen got to pick his call sign.", The directors didn't even notice the Easter egg he threw in until after the movie came out."
Like this man full on y/n-ed a multi-million dollar production. 😂😂😂

*hitting you with a stick* no benoit blanc movies should not interact. they should not lead up to something. you need to detox from the marvel/sherlock bbc poisoning. they should be completely independent movies (maybe w some cameos/little references for fun) and go on for as long as there are stories rian johnson wants to tell in this universe. i do not want an overarching plot i do not want a team up i dont want a benoit-focused prequel i want some good old fashioned episodic murder mysteries that have nothing to do with each other!!!!!!!!!!! also rian johnson has literally said he's not gonna do a prequel and he wants the movies to all stand on their own
addendum 1: by "marvel/sherlock bbc poisoning" i dont mean that those caused this over-serialization, but i think they are partially responsible for why audiences are expecting it. learn to engage w murder mysteries on the genre's own terms
addendum 2: idc what headcanons you have. i actively encourage you to write fanfic about marta and helen solving crime if you wanna. that is literally what fanfiction is for my guy! if you want to know how phillip and benoit met THAT IS WHY FANFIC EXISTS

an underrated detail in pride and prejudice is that elizabeth bennett was home alone on the day darcy proposed because she had a headache. can you imagine. this was in the pre-painkillers era. you're at home with a headache and then this asshole walks into the room and tells you he loves you and wants to marry you even though he hates your whole family and you're beneath him. imagine having to deal with that while also having a headache. she doesn't even have ibuprofen

No because pride and prejudice isn't "I changed myself for you so you would love me back." It's "your blatant rejection and disdain for me made me realize things about myself no one had ever been bold enough to tell me so I sat down and evaluated all my behavior patterns and why they came about and came to the realization myself that I had to work on myself. Also I don't expect you to love me now that I'm a work in progress, so I'm just going to do nice things for you because I don't like seeing you hurt." No wonder P&P fans refuse to settle.

YES I LOVE THIS. This is the type of introspective response to the characters I am looking for.
What happened between Will and Mike in that year?
I know a lot of people were wondering why Mike was being a complete idiot at the airport. What happened that they drifted apart in a year if they were okay before Will leave? Why did everything become so uncomfortable?
I know many had the theory that maybe Mike in that year had realized his feelings for Will and others thought that maybe he was jealous of the subject of the painting, but I think that same doubt solves it for us in the chapter 8.
At the van scene during his indirect confession to Mike, Will tells him that he was trying to pushing him away for fear of losing him. And when they fight on the roller rink on Vol. 1 Mike tells Will something like "Maybe you should have come closer. Why am I the bad guy?" Then in Will's room when he apologizes, Mike tells Will that he felt he had lost him.
Connecting the 3 points leads me to think that probably Will was the first to step away, maybe not stop writing or anything so drastic but maybe in the few times they spoke it was a little further away for fear of proving their feelings. Then Mike took it the wrong way, maybe he got angry to believe that Will no longer wanted to talk to him like before and cut the communication completely, which led to a series of misunderstandings between the two that only magnified the problem.
Will tries to be more distant and "push away" Mike for fear of losing him → Mike misinterprets and gets angry, cuts communication and doesn't hug him at the airport → Will feels bad about this and has been proving it all day → Mike misinterprets the situation again because he doesn't know Will's feelings and believes his behavior duringand the day is because he doesn't even want to be near him anymore.
Mike doesn't know about Will's feelings and at in a time like the 80's when the topic was not talked about + growing up in a conservative family the most feasible thing for him was that Will would no longer want to be his friend, while Will was just trying to hide his feelings for fear. I'm not really Mike defender, especially because he has a lot of behaviors that bother me but I think in this particular conflict neither of they has the guilt.
Basically, the two are silly people with a lack of communication who fear losing each other by expressing themselves openly. It's not that Mike was suddenly rude bc he was jealous or out of nowhere, they're just two teenagers who care too much about each other and try to get over that with how little they know.
"It's just that this year was hard, hawkins it's no the same without you... and I don't know maybe I feel like I lost you or something."
"If I was rude to you or it seemed like I was pushing you away it's because I'm scared of losing you, just like you're scared of losing me"

I feel like I’m the only one who really appreciated Will’s monologue explaining the painting to Mike. It’s actually really disheartening to see everyone saying that they are upset by it and how it was used to further Mike and Eleven’s relationship. If you think that, you’re missing the point that this was a really great scene showing the experience of a gay boy who is still processing his own sexuality in the 1980s completely on his own.
Let me break this down: at this point we know that Will is gay and has feelings for Mike. Will is complex and his character from the first episode has been highlighted as being emotionally intelligent beyond his years. That being said, they haven’t actually told us that. To me this suggests that Will is still figuring this out himself and the painting monologue was a huge part of him processing and accepting it. Additionally, you cannot expect Mike, the hard headed dude who can’t process simple emotions, to be able to pick up on anything that Will subtly hints towards. That’s just not the character that makes up Mike.
In my personal experience, I developed feelings for a friend before I knew what sexuality even was. I grew up extremely sheltered from gay relationships and was extremely confused and frustrated that I couldn’t figure out what was going on. I grew slightly possessive and jealous of my friend when she would spend more time with other people. She started to question why and I immediately threw up walls and pretended like I never felt that way. I can only imagine that this situation isn’t as common as it once was. I know it still happens but let flashback to Robin worrying about asking the wrong girl out and being outed and ostracized. Contextually, it makes sense that Will does not fully come out to Mike or tell him how he feels. One, he feels hated by the world and two, he doesn’t want Mike to look at him differently. It wouldn’t make sense for this to be moving slowly. I mean for fucks sake, they are only freshmen in high school. I didn’t even accept my sexuality until I was 25!
The scene with Jonathan at Surfer Boy just highlights the fact that Will has been very much forgotten and left behind, even by his family. El’s lack of friends is highlighted but if you look close, it kind of seems like Will hasn’t really made any either. And his best friend who was always the one who checked in on him is pulling away even more. Will and Mike’s friendship was always Mike chasing after Will and in season three we see Will’s distraught over Mike pulling away. And even though they reconciled at the end of that season, season four told us that Mike has pulled away even further. (Now is that because he is somewhat aware of Will’s feelings and maybe unsure of how to handle that with a potential for somewhat requited feelings? I believe so.)
I personally think it would be a disservice to a portrayal of a queer experience to undermine Will’s painting monologue as simple plot device for a straight relationship. Will love El and Mike. More than anything, he wants to comfort Mike and for him to be happy. So he used the painting to do that. But I’m the midst of it he got caught up in processing his own experience and emotions. That’s the whole reason that he started getting teary eyed. He was upset that Mike is with Eleven. He was upset because this is probably the first he ever been able to put into words what he is going through. It was a cathartic release and a moment I really resonated with and felt because I have been there! That was a big first step on my journey to self acceptance in my sexuality.
OKAY what I would like to see happen in the future but also just don’t know if we will have time for it in Will’s journey to self acceptance: Will and Mike do have a chat and Will comes out to Mike and admits his feelings but knows, accepts, and communicates that 1) even if Mike in some way reciprocates the feelings, that he is not at a place of self acceptance where any type of healthy romantic relationship is viable and 2) Will doesn’t actually want a relationship with Mike because he has recognized that it would never be what he wants it to be because of romanticizing the whole thing.
In the end, Will is able to use this as a development situation where he fully comes to terms with his sexuality. Simultaneously, Mike begins this process. Together, they remain very good friends that have come to terms with their differences in situation but look beyond that because their bond goes beyond that of any thing romantic or friendship. Maybe down the line we see them in a relationship later in life ala Harry Potter epilogue style.
I think the prioritizing self acceptance and portraying the differences in that process of coming out to yourself versus the ones around you could be so freaking impactful to the community as a whole. It also would just be so great to see gays who have feelings for each other accept this but recognize that they aren’t ready for an actual relationship and may never be but use it to develop themselves.
If complex queers and their relationships is what you want, this is a great example of movement towards that. That it’s not just about the relationships themselves anymore. We’ve achieved that. Now it’s about the complexities of those individuals and relationships that make them different and harder to navigate than straight ones.
In conclusion, Will Byers in season four is the perfect example of the representation that we need.

i’ve seen some posts recently about robin being a different character this season but i think it’s super important to note that she’s only a different character when she’s around nancy.
in the car, robin and steve have the same sarcastic banter that they had in season three. with eddie, she’s abrasive and snarky like always. she’s the same mean lesbian we’ve come to love.
but then she’s around nancy. and she’s awkward. and she overthinks. and she apologizes for her behavior and talks a lot and keeps telling her that she and steve are NOT a thing. she acts the way she does around her crush.
because nancy “pretty girl” wheeler is smart and brave and so determined and robin doesn’t know how she’s supposed to act around her.
tldr: robin isn’t ooc in the new season she’s just around a pretty girl and unable to function.

“what are your thoughts on season four?”
eddie hot. eddie very very hot. i sure do be running up hills for eddie cause he hot. the in depth showing of max’s ptsd of losing her brother really identified how you mourn someone, who you don’t necessarily like, know or got along with, to the point of wishing to take their place out of the guilt of surviving is really realistic and so is the fall out of the loss of their lives/being felt by everyone. eddie beautiful, my sweet lil man.
