I resent the accusations that Lucius would EVER be abusive towards Narcissa. Hes a WIFE GUY, he ADORES her, she is his LIFE, his BEST FRIEND AND CONFIDANT. Lucius abraxis malfoy is many things but cruel to his wife he is not. Even more I'm annoyed I have to defend Lucius honor on this matter BC he is a dick but not like that.

Post-war, Haymitch has called Effie princess in public enough times in district 12 that the people now jokingly/fondly refer to her as “Abernathy’s princess” to one another.

Things I really need/want right now (because apparently I like emotional pain)…
angsty/desperate/helpless/emotionally raw fanfiction about Haymitch and Effie watching the games (both, 74th and 75th OR if you want any other games)
Haymitch’s POV during the time in MJ when they thought Katniss (and her team) were dead
and for good measure a couple of fluffy and/or angsty sickfics or physical hurt/comfort fanfics (Hayffie or Hayffie and the kids); —> preferably not related to alcohol but classic stuff like the flu or other unpleasantnesses, accidents and broken bones/cuts etc etc, not fatal, could be caring dad!haymitch as well
Don’t ask me why. It’s grey, cold and rainy outside, and I am in a mood. Make it Haymitch centric and make him suffer physically. 😅 Fanfic recommendations are appreciated!

Back in 2022 when ST4 came out I had one or two ideas for Jopper drabbles (mostly pure fluff because they really need that) and I kinda wanna write them now.
Problem is apparently I deleted the note with the ideas…🤣

my weirdly specific head canon that is very important to me is that Joanna Mason and Annie Cresta are straight up besties. They have this like shy, kind, introvert, and introvert’s mean bodyguard vibe and I like that. I think also Annie likes that in Joanna doesn’t treat her differently because of her mental health she treats Annie the same way she treats everyone else, meaning she’s an absolute jerk to her and insults her at every return. True friendship.

drabble.
“What is your fondest memory of us?”
She asks all of sudden. We are sitting in the living room. She’s taking notes, rearranging schedules, checking our budget and I’m drinking whiskey – like always. I look at her but don’t answer. Not because I couldn’t but because I don’t want to give her false hopes. I can’t tell her my fondest memories. Those words are never to be uttered. It would be too dangerous for her…For me. It would make both of us vulnerable.
I can’t tell her that the most precious was when I first heard her laughing wholeheartedly. I don’t remember where we were - probably in one of us’ bed -, why she was laughing but I do remember that she wasn’t dressed up as a clown, her face wasn’t caked, there wasn’t any ridiculous wig on her head. She wasn’t the escort, she was the young, beautiful woman she should be every day. And she was laughing. She threw her head back, her blonde locks were everywhere. And she just laughed, and laughed as if she couldn’t stop. Her laughter was sweet and joyful. It sounded like millions of little bells. She hid her face in her palms; as if she was ashamed of being so careless and happy when children were dying in the arena at the very same time. She took them away only when she stopped laughing. Her eyes were full with tears and she said her side was hurting from all the laughter. That was the moment I knew I was a lost man. That was the moment I fell in love with her.

Pre-production animation of ANASTASIA that had been drawn to a previous MEG RYAN performance. The footage was produced to convince Ryan into voicing the animated heroine.
DON BLUTH: “I remember what we did to find Anastasia is, everyone liked Meg Ryan, because she represents a really courageous female figure. So we said, ‘Let’s take an old piece of dialogue out of one of her movies and we’ll animate what we think it should look like, and fit it with that piece of dialogue.’ It was from Sleepless in Seattle.”
MEG RYAN: “And then I went into this room at Fox, and all the animators were there. And they had animated a piece of, like, I think it was Sleepless in Seattle? I’m not sure, but they animated it, so that it was unbelievable to see you as a cartoon. It was amazing. Then, they were just so enthusiastic about everything.”
DON BLUTH: “And it worked very well. She saw herself as an animated figure, and I think it helped bring her in to the mix so that she was part of building this movie.”

No no no no you don't get it Suzanne did not close the door on Hayffie in SotR, she threw the door wide open for the movie.
Haymitch and Effie having some kind of romantic relationship is not canon in the books. It just isn't. It's subtext at best. Even the fact that they could be friends is pretty subtext. But Haymitch and Effie having some kind of romantic-friendship-situationship-relationship in the movies is like 97% canon. It's right in front of our eyeballs. Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks were 10 toes down for that ship and we all knew it. (Bless them)
SotR provides ample material to support the beginnings of this relationship in the film, even alongside Haymitch and Lenore Dove. The makeup box scene? Are you kidding me? The woman could not have written a better meet cute for the two of them to play out on screen. Her flying in to his launch room at the last minute to fix his clothes and the locking eyes moment before he goes up into the arena? Movie magic if I ever saw it. I can already picture how they would shoot it to emphasize their connection (whether either of them likes it or not at this point).
Post games theyre suddenly the only relationship of any kind left standing once everyone else Haymitch cares about dies or he pushes them away. She's literally the only one left that means anything, that shows him any kindness, even as short-lived as their relationship is at this point. That makes them the emotional anchor for the end of the film. It’s unlikely but they could even show us moments from the 24 years they worked together since that’s canon now and still insane to me. (Suzanne gave them so much history!!! How is anyone not seeing this is a goldmine?)
Finally for the epilogue, it's written in such a way that you could easily tweak it to show Haymitch and his geese, and Effie somehow enters the scene. In my head, she’s visiting him since I don’t think they would ever have the kind of relationship where they’d live together all the time. At first I thought maybe they talk about the geese and how they mate for life oh wait no they don’t, but then I thought maybe Effie just says something along the lines of I heard you told them your story. Haymitch- yeah. Effie- Was I in it? Haymitch- of course you were. Etc etc. I don’t have it all figured out but the point being there’s a real opportunity here to make this both of their origin stories because of how their roles in the films play out.
There’s almost an equal opportunity here to shine the light on Effie’s background and motivations, and how she was basically put in her role as escort by accident (I’m still not over this) almost just as much as Haymitch was chosen against his will for the games.
But anyway, back to my original point. Do I think Suzanne wrote the book with the movie in mind? Maybe not, but she knows how this works by now. And she knows the differences between her Haymitch and Effie and the films’ Haymitch and Effie. Her version of the story does not include Hayffie in a straightforward way, but that doesn’t mean the films have to follow that to the letter. In fact, they’ve already deviated far from it in the original trilogy by keeping Effie in District 13 for Mockingjay, the KISS, etc.
As I’ve said a million times before, this is how adaptation should work at its finest. Giving the opportunity to tell a slightly different story based on the context and opportunities given by the adaptation medium. In this case, that involves 3 previous films that set up these characters and the actors’ choosing to make subtext text. All the ingredients are there. I’m so intrigued to see how they get put together.
