I feel like Marcus is just like an improved Jess. Besides Marcus >>>>> Jess

I disagree not cos of the behaviour itself I honestly don’t remember enough Marcus and ginnys like early plots but in my general opinion i prefer Jess

But the reason I disagree is cos I think the reason Marcus would seem better or like an improved Jess is cos there is in canon like reasoning for his behaviour

Like with Jess when he had shitty communication or like just generally acted badly he was more so written off as like a damaged bad kid

so while the audience know his past and upbringing and can extrapolate the fact that it’s probably actual psychological issues that lead to his behaviour and his relationship issues, this is never actually acknowledged for Jess

Whereas with Marcus it’s acknowledged that he’s depressed and has mental health struggles

Like not in the sense that mental illness excuses behaviour but more so when something is acknowledged in canon it makes actions make more sense and therefore garners sympathy from the audience as a whole rather than just the subset of the audience who will make the connection of upbringing, does that make sense?

Cos 1. The writers basically said it right from the get go of the show it’s Gilmore girls but darker and with murder right?

2. youll notice a lot of direct parallels to not only certain lines and conversations but how they build love interests of both ginny and Georgia and you can see where the inspo comes in:

Marcus is Jess incarnate (with direct parallels but Jess superiority tbh I’m just biased)

Paul seemingly a mix of max medina (resident nice guy, engaged during a weird proposal argument, very much from the rich life) and Jason and a dash of Chris

Zion is like almost directly Christopher (more so this season cos this season he annoyed me🙄🤚)

Which brings me to Joe- the Luke of the bunch and no not just cos of the blue farm of it all but it’s the slow burn it’s the dude that watched her go into those relationships and silently wanted her the whole time, it’s her being jealous of Cynthia like lorelai was jealous of everyone luke got involved with while refusing to acknowledge her feelings it’s direct lines and dynamic that parallel Luke and lorelai so OF COURSE ITS JOE??
