Géraud Duroc:
a. “He was a ray of sunshine and a sweet angel. He was a lifelong companion of Napoleon and they were besties. He died in battle in 1813 and Napoleon bought the farm he died in to put a monument up in his memory.” b. “He’s so hot he lit Moscow on fire, he also totally banged Napoleon fr fr He deserves to win because he lost to a traffic cone in that other poll”
Carl von Clausewitz:
a. „what could possibly be sexier than a prussian uniform and a lasting impact on military theory?”
#I'm not autistic enough about Clausewitz to write a propaganda to appeal to the masses of Tumblr but#It's the big daddy of Western military theory!#The European Sun Tzu himself#He's basically the guy military bros go to for some more nuance in their craft#Highlighting its political and psychological aspects that wouldn't even be taken into account until the late 19th century?#Part of the Big Deal Prussian Military Reformation(tm)?#Huge impact even later on into the 20th-21st century? Very sexy yes?#To this day historians are still trying to interpret his book even with its huge influence on German military pre-nuclear#(Mostly because Vom Kriege was written throughout the course of his military career)#(But still! Very interesting read to see how his mindset grows and change in accordance to the timeline of the Napoleonic war)#(Especially during/after the Russian campaign)#Also he looks like a huge dork.#Also he was Scharnhorst's bestie/son. And you can't hate Scharnhorst now can you#Sorry. I spent way too long reading On War I cannot put it into words how much it tickled my warfare-psychology fancy I'm very biased#Shoutout to his wife Marie von Brühl for completing and publishing his magnum opus by the way.#And also with forming his entire career (politically) they were quite the power couple!#But then again. Won't be surprised if he loses.#The community of this period is quite French-centric and people here aren't as obsessed with warfare as some people I know lolol#There's a distinct lack of wehraboos/kaiserboos population on this specific side of the platform (or in general on Tumblr)#And I'll never not be grateful for it

Ahh...I see this post is gracing my feed again...
To add to this conga line of amusing nicknames, I'd like to note Davout's not-so-amusing one: "Beast of Hamburg" (some sources also use "Robespierre of Hamburg").
It's not because he was wicked cool or anything, but for his long list of harsh treatment on Hamburg and its citizens during its occupation in 1813-1814. (Notably when he expelled 25,000 Hamburgians into the dead of winter due to supply concerns, which while kind of make sense with the circumstances considered...still. Jesus Christ.)
The Nicknames of the Marshals
Davout : “The Iron Marshal” Massena : “The Darling Child of Victory” Lannes : “The French Achilles”; “Roland” Ney : “The Red Lion”; “The Bravest of the Braves” Soult : “The Duke of Damnation”, “King Nicholas” Murat : “King Franconi” Suchet : “El Hombre Justo” St-Cyr : “The Man of Ice", “The Owl” Marmont : “Marshal Judas”; “Proud-Ass” Bernadotte : “Fair-Legs” Augereau : “The Proud Bandit” MacDonald : “Alceste” (a Moliere character known for his blunt honesty) Victor : “The Drummer”; “Pretty-Sun” Mortier : “The Ram” Oudinot : “Thirty-five Wounds Marshal”;“The Colander” Moncey : “Phebus”; “The Model of All Virtues” Poniatowski : “The Polish Bayard”
-Credit to a Youtube comment I found
#napoleon's marshals#louis nicholas davout#I have a firm grimace on my face at all times whenever I read about Hamburg in this specific era.#Literal shell of itself. War is hell

{ Nemophilist's Hunt—»
A dove fled its gilded cage.
The land of Savigny has been consumed in the snow. The same trees repeat and stretch for as far as the eye can see. The château, too, disappeared among these trees. The mysterious letters ― fleeting salvations ― scatter across the land. Time is aimless, and so are these lands.
The dark branches breathed.
A carbine in hand and a will, its only occupant realises that he was never alone.
Be vigilant, for you are no longer the master of this realm.

Surprise! Tumblr just got turned into an epic fantasy RPG, just like [your favorite appropriate media franchise]. And the Tumblr RPG's plot needs to have all of its characters covered, in roles both large and small.
That means that you are assigned to a stereotypical RPG role inside our new fantasy world. Spin this wheel to find out what you are now doing for a living.
