I also thought she was inspirational! I agree! I loved how she kept it humble though. I am sure that just like me, many girls in the room could identify themselves with her, as immigrants who came to this country in hopes of becoming successful one day. Wendy Cai-Lee demonstrated that anything could be accomplished with hard work and dedication. Also, I loved how she continues to hold onto values, even though she has accomplished so much.
Plenary #2
Wendy Cai-Lee was so inspirational. Her story sounded like someone you would read about. I couldn’t believe how fast she was able to move up in her career. It sounded as if she just happened to be in the right place at the right time with companies who needed exactly what she had to offer.
I also loved how even though she was a financial professional, she still had a unique personality. I loved how she shared that she hadn’t even put on earrings that day, and some days she would walk out of the house with only one eyebrow done, but life keeps going and you go with it! I felt like she demonstrated how sometimes we worry and stress to the point where we feel like it will be the end of the world if you are not perfect, but it is exactly the opposite. I think that you learn the most from your mistakes and as for forgetting the little things like earrings, who cares! In the very least it can be a conversation starter or a great tidbit to a speech.

Thursday 10/03 Class--> Topic: Women used as a weapon of war.
I have never heard of women being used as a weapon of war. It makes me feel disgusted that some people take advantage of others’ unfortunate situations to commit such crimes. I was never aware of how women could be a target in a war. That actually made me cringe and reflect.

Syria
Yesterday, in class we had a discussion about Syria's war. What captivated me the most was when we were debating whether we should or not accept Syrian refugees into the United States. I personally do not know where do I stand in what would be the correct decision. I just feel saddened for the children and families being killed.

Me too! Though at the beginning I was uncertain to what her point was going to be, as she incorporated spirituality into her discussion. I liked the message she was trying to convey, to know, accept, and love yourself before expressing the same to others.
Yesterday’s plenary was so refreshing. It has been so long since I’ve had a chance to ponder spirituality. It is so amazing to see someone who has been able to find a common ground between patriarchal religions and feminist spirituality. I feel so empowered by  Professor Jackson-Brewer’s messages, and so blessed to be a part of that audience yesterday.

YES! I totally agree with you. I found interesting that we are not aware of the items we use or buy on the daily. I also found interesting the book bag design. I had never thought of society’s assumptions that go along with it. Small bookbag= for women to carry their makeup around, or that we do not need big book bags because we should not get educated.
Class 11/10
In my class on Tuesday, we discussed about different ways to recreate different inventions. It was very valuable because it really displayed to me that things that we take for granted can change to make lives easier for us easier and more accepting. The most interesting project, besides mine, was about how you can recreate yourself on a website so you physically SEE yourself wearing something that you like. This can help you buy what you want and so you can actually see what you like. Confidence is a huge thing for women and we need to continue to push towards equality so women can be confident

I agree, I also felt that she focused a little too much on her luck and how successful she has become. Instead, if she would of spoken in detail about how her determination and motivation helped her to overcome the struggles she faced as a young woman from a low income background. That would of been more inspiring to me.
Plenary Reflection: Pam Fessler
Pam Fessler’s Plenary was disappointing. For someone who is a professional storyteller, I felt like what should have had strong rhetoric and a clear narrative was muddled in a clutter of ideas — definitely good ideas, but cluttered and out of place non the less. Nothing Fessler said was wrong or not interesting, but instead of hearing a cohesive story where each component of her speak connected, it was like picking up separate books and reading a chapter from each. I wish her presentation could have been more focused on one of the many ideas she talked about or at least been connected in a better way. However, I don’t want to discount the very important (although, maybe under-developed) ideas she shared with us at the plenary, that I will continue to think about as I look toward a professional career in journalism.

One would not think that such prestigious universities would ignore these victims, just to not harm their reputation. How can reputation overcome the needs of its students? It’s impressive that Lady Gaga released this song to raise awareness.
