The Connection Between Violence and Globalization
With technology and society advancing at a rapid pace, our world is forever changing. At the center of this ever-changing world is globalization, which has significantly impacted our daily lives and has connected people all across the world. However with these innovative improvements, globalization has contributed to threatening issues. Due to globalization which has produced accessible communication channels, terrorist groups such as ISIS and Al-Qaeda have become more dangerous and as a result, creates the expression: “The Fear of Terrorism”. The fear of terrorism has produced many racist conspiracy theories and has created controversy about the topics of immigration and race. An example would be the El Paso Shooting that occurred on August 3, 2019 where a man opened fire on and killed 22 people after a manifesto was published on the internet. The manifesto and the reason behind the shooting, was based on a racist conspiracy theory, where Caucasian individuals were being replaced by people of colour through mass immigration. This conspiracy theory originated from white supremacist groups in 2011, inspiring other to follow in their footsteps. As a result, more terrorist attacks occurred because of the spreading news in the media which instilled trembling fear in civilians. Another example would be the after effects of 9/11, as the horrific attack resulted in discrimination and prejudice against many Muslim families globally. The expression “The Fear of Terrorism” from in-class readings struck and divided the modern world, and can still be seen today. Therefore the “Fear of Terrorism establishes a connection between violence and globalization, as negativity is spreading worldwide because of media impact.

Globalization and the Olympics
The Olympics; one of the greatest national sporting events to ever broadcast, with millions of people watching around the world, the Olympics are entertainment for audiences worldwide. This makes hosting the Olympics an honor because of the massive fan base and international attention, however it can be a major risk with the host city's reputation on the line. From a political standpoint, it is a risk for cities because it displays their political and economic flaws while conversely showcasing talent on the world's biggest stage. With the upcoming 2020 Tokyo summer Olympics coming closer, controversy has begun to unfold between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Tokyo. Extreme weather conditions in Tokyo has forced the IOC to make a sudden decision to move an event location from Tokyo to Northern Japan. As a result, Tokyo's government is very upset with the decision, because it creates relocation costs and location complaints(McCurry, Par 12) that negatively impact Tokyo. Purchased tickets may have to be re-purchased due to the location change, which can frustrate Olympic audiences, creating a negative impact on the host nation. Overall the decision to move the event may see negative backlash when the summer Olympics began. Nevertheless, there is also a huge benefit to hosting the Olympics, such as economic growth and attraction towards the city (TheMedium, Par 1). With civilians watching from all around the world, it is very important for host cities to put their best foot forward. There are nine months until the 2020 summer Olympics begin, which means there is plenty of time for mistakes to be made in the process of preparing and planning the Olympics however Tokyo is sure to put economics and politics into consideration. Host cities want to focus on displaying their best attributes in order to increase economic growth and display a strong political standpoint internationally.

Thinking Globally
With the current trend of globalization, the term “thinking globally’ is an important mindset for the economic growth of any brand. To further describe this term, we can use a real world example. The NBA, also known as the National Basketball Association, is an international sporting league that has allowed the global expansion of many athletic companies. Nike, Under Armour and Adidas are prime examples of this globalization. With the rapid growth of basketball in China and Europe, North American brands are reaping the benefits of being partnered with the NBA. However, there are also great risks involved when teams and players are representing American companies in international territory. Brands can influence and shatter business relationships with their actions, words and their behaviour. Brand Influence was recently on display in a major controversy between the NBA and China because of the remarks of Houston's Rocket head coach. The controversy has disrupted revenue and promotional gain from the NBA as well as their partnered companies such as Nike. Nike is the sole provider for NBA uniforms and is being hindered by the controversy because it is creating a difficult setting for Nike to expand their global image. With revenues increasing in China, Nike was looking to target more on their global brand, instead of their local brand which would be North America. However, China has refused to broadcast some NBA games which has decreased their popularity and is hurting Nikes ability to sell clothes and apparel. As a result it has been more difficult and stressful to promote and sell items in other countries based on the scuffle between the National Basketball Association and China. Therefore, it is always important for a brand to think globally, and ensure that they have prepared and planned for the worst outcomes.

Globalization; a powerful word that is growing on a larger scale and has birthed many innovative ideas such as the internet, which has flourished into a platform for connectivity. As the internet continues to become more of a human necessity and a useful service in our everyday lives, we must consider the effects and impacts it has on globalization and nevertheless, we must define the term globalization. Globalization can be described as many things, but it is more than anything else about connections between people and communities worldwide. By using the definition of globalization we can apply it to the internet and the many factors that impact globalization but more specifically online shopping. Online shopping has taken the world by storm becoming a more efficient and effective alternative to bricks and mortar shopping and with global markets such as Amazon and Ali-Baba the online market has grown exponentially in sales. In the textbook, researchers have found that within one minute, Amazon had $119,760 in sales selling products that are manufactured all across the world and just a single week ago, I had purchased a product from Amazon. It was a screen protector that was manufactured in China and the delivery process only took one day. This astonished me and after receiving my package I realized that without globalization, the process of sending a product to a consumer from anywhere around the world would be nothing but a fantasy. This dream has now become a reality with innovative technology that has drastically impacted our ever-globalizing world and as a result, I realized how online shopping has increased globalization, intertwining the world. With developments in globalization, a vast online market for consumers to purchase products from all over the globe now links businesses to consumers, countries to countries, and ultimately people to people. Therefore, the internet and its ability to connect consumers to producers worldwide, has shown us the impacts of globalization and how as a society we have evolved.
