ladies and gents and non-binaries, I present: the Jaeger Pilot and the Scientist aka Giraffe-with-a-sixpack and Shorties-hips-don’t-lie.

[ HEADCANON. ] this just in, if you ever spot a picture or gif of Puck completely relaxed and in control on an airplane, that is a lie. he does get on planes and he does it without much of a fuss but a flight will always involve a chill pill and a couple of beers before and during the flight. pair that up with an overall complete passion for travelling and you’ve got yourself a 5′7″ disaster, cussing quietly in two different languages, while downing the third pint at 6AM because we all know airports are lawless zones.

when some random ass federal judge calls you an “ eco-terrorist ” instead of a “ genuinely good person with a slightly wonky understanding of laws and regulations when it comes to saving the planet, you’re welcome by the way ”

[ HEADCANON. ] Puck is humble about it but he can prepare incredibly delicious meals and make it look easy. while he’s not a baker at all ( ask him to make you cookies, I dare you ) he somehow seems to find his zen whenever he bustles around in the kitchen, dishing up something coming close to restaurant quality. and I’m talking good restaurants, not the kind that Gordon Ramsay almost shuts down on a regular basis. having travelled the world and considering that he’s a major foodie, Puck can do a little something from most cuisines, but favorites definitely include almost anything Asian, Italian, and ofc good ole homecooked Cuban dishes. with a big meal, don’t be surprised to always find papas rellenas ( without the ground beef ), yuca con mojo, and of course fried plantains.

fair warning: Puck loves everything spicy and flavorful, so when a recipe says ‘add three cloves of garlic’, know he’ll add six. he is also the kind of entirely insane person that will order the hottest curry at an Indian restaurant and then ask for a little extra chili. he’s made waiters cry over that in the past.

second fair warning: anything he cooks is completely 100% free of animal products and he will change up recipes accordingly, knowing how to substitute whatever needs substituting. considering that he’s been doing that over ten years now, you surely won’t be able to tell the difference.

·thankfully , chuck hansen for a start wasn’t quite trapped under the wires like many doctors here . ·he couldn’t ever imagine a life behind a desk , · or one that mingled with numbers and letters . · he’s useless without an unhealthy doze of adrenaline in his veins , · he’s just a scared boy then with big arms ·. no names are written on anything the man owns , ·but he guesses it by the time the man is done talking ; ·puck was it ? ·what a stupid name , ·he’s thought when stacker called him , · who names their kid puck ? · what does it even MEAN ?

·what they did was obvious , · killing and hitting and destroying . · like a blind bull , · or at least on the younger hansen’s case . ·the boy who was angry at monsters , ·and who wanted to kill them with bare hands instead of being strapped into striker ; ·he’s lived his whole life like this . ·like he was always inside striker , ·fighting , · and breathing into clean glass of kaiju pilot helmet .

·it seems someone had found a certain way to keep this blind bull at bay , ·by cleverly stroking his ego . ·chuck’s shoulders slowly relaxed as he raised a brow to accompany his crooked smirk · ── · je ne sai quoi . ·he liked the sound of that . ·❛ . . . some of us still lack it you know . ❜ · younger becket brother’s name is in his head but he does voice it . ·❛ though if ya’ say you’re afraid of HEIGHTS , well . ❜ · knuckles knock on the wooden table twice , · the smile is less hostile now . ·civil , he’s not in the mood to be angry this very moment . ·❛ we go quite high . but once you’re up there , nothing can top that feelin’ . nothing . especially not numbers and computers . ❜

     “ AND STILL ALL OF YOU GET INTO YOUR JAEGERS AND GO OUT THERE. gonna have at least a little of it, don’t you think ? ” all of you            all the nine that are left; two handfuls of pilots ready to defend an entire world. safe to say that Puck wouldn’t want to switch places with any of them, even if he didn’t clench up the moment he moved past fifteen feet up. he sports a distinct lack of a killer instinct; and on top of it, is actually a pacifist at heart. shame that nobody can reason with giant monsters crawling out of a massive rift at the bottom of the ocean. oh well              

       the tablet now forgotten for good does he spend a moment to try and imagine what it must be like to be up there in that cockpit, staring down a Kaiju .   .    . and finds that he can’t. DOESN’T REALLY WANT TO, EITHER; his entire concept of reason and self-care bristles at the thought. then again, some folks wouldn’t find the idea of getting into a one-man submarine and venturing down into the blackness of the Mariana Trench a particularly sane idea either. and Puck would love to do that again at some point.

      “ hah. not much of a difficulty when the only thing that’s even less appealing than numbers and computers is a slice of wet, cold pizza. ” coming from a man working with numbers and computers 24/7 at the moment. he hates it, truth be told. and being holed up behind inches and inches of steel all day is reason enough to develop cabin fever. “ I get the crave for a good hit of adrenaline, believe me, but that ? ” he briefly gestures towards the bays. “ that’s not adrenaline for me, that’s a straight trip into cardiac arrest. ” and he chuckles at that, with the ease and nonchalance of a man who apparently knows himself inside and out.

✹ — GUEST SPEAKERS WERE ALWAYS A WELCOME SIGHT. they were a break from the monotonous nature of the same professors seen weekly, the same routine followed strictly, and subject of new and interesting conversations. while rhaenys was technically a good student in that she was well-mannered and her finished her work in a timely manner, she was terrible in the sense of how completely and utterly BORED she became in the face of routine. ( hence the abundance of notebooks she kept in her messenger bag, so she might doodle discreetly during lectures or during study breaks. ) all that being said, rhaenys had been genuinely interested about the upcoming speaker. dr. rafael velásquez was a marine biologist and environmental conversationalist  -  and not the fake kind, either.

       rhaenys did her research on him weeks in advance when his presence was announced. she listened to videos of him on youtube as background noise while she painted, read articles and interviews with him, and even found his own material to read. rhaenys had no patience for fake environmentalists, nor did she have the willpower to sit through a whole lecture made by insincere dolts. according to her research, he was none of these things. and when the day of the lecture hall came, she was pleased by his sincerity -

       -  but that being said … she wants to prod his brain. so when the lecture ends, rhaenys waits until other students have filed out before approaching him herself. although her words are cheeky, he takes them lightheartedly, which is a little surprising. “ rhaenys targaryen. my dad is valyrian, ” she says, quick to add the minute detail, because her name always got raised brows. “ and your lecture conveyed a lot, actually. i took notes. ” to convey proof, she pulls a notebook from under her arm and opens it to an array of four full pages detailing her thoughts and opinions. “ i was hoping that i could talk to you over coffee, actually. i’m leading a debate on shark finning and how it effects our ecosystem next week, and i’d love an expert’s opinion. i’ll buy. ”

      APPARENTLY HE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE TO QUICKLY GROW BORED WITH ROUTINE; seeking challenges, growth, opportunities to learn wherever he could get his hands on them. look at the lecture theater filled with students, look at him, spot the difference. you probably can’t. crippling financial debt aside, which Puck by now, fortunately, has grown out of. the little addendum to her name definitely has him raise his brows         but rather due to plain old surprise to ever meet someone from that little spot on the map. “ valyria. the one european country that is even less acknowledged than luxembourg        ” HUH. the brows arch a little more even at the sight of her diligent work. “ and you have more notes on this lecture than I have, apparently. ”

      not a shock, really. he’s given these kinds of talks so many times by now, he knows most of them by heart.

      the laptop and notes disappear, and Puck checks his watch only to receive an invitation he hasn’t anticipated. students occasionally hung around for a brief chat ( most of them including the question what it’s like to see a shark up close ) but few, regrettably few, ever ask him for a coffee. it’s the last lecture for the next few months. two weeks from now he’s heading to capetown and from there on to gansbaai; meeting old friends, so to speak.

      “ shark finning ? well, congratulations on picking one of the most frustrating topics of environmentalism. ” the smile turns into a bit of a grin. “ might as well lead a debate on heroin. everyone in the room agrees it’s godawful and shouldn’t happen while simultaneously knowing that it’ll never go away. ” he shoulders his bag. “ but I would never refuse coffee. ” a gesture for her to go ahead, considering that he knows jackshit about this campus and has already gotten lost once on the way in.

     “ why shark finning ? ”

      HOW COULD ANYONE RESIST THE TEMPTATION? real question; wish he were kidding a little more about that very sudden and very urgent power a simple plate of fries can hold over a man. Puck usually isn’t the kind of guy who will just because someone has told him he shouldn’t            but there is a bit of a rebel in everyone at the end of the day, right ? RIGHT ? his gaze wanders from Newt to the plate and back again; faux contemplation playing on his face while he pretends to keep on fiddling with his own paper cup of coke          regular; anything diet is sacrilege or so he likes to have others believe.

       it takes a second       SNAP        one fry gone; a look of complete, infuriating doe-eyed-innocence on Puck’s face that conveys one message and one message only: what’cha gonna do about it ? ( not bite him, hopefully. his rabies shots are up-to-date but one never knows what Newt might have licked in the name of science )

[ HEADCANON. ] this just in, Puck is a very physical person; random little touches, hugs, leaning on him etc is all highly encouraged and will be reciprocated. he also lives up to the average Cuban informal etiquette so if he’s somewhat familiar with you, double cheek kisses for greetings are a go. yes, even with other guys            that’s the American bleeding in.
