“What am I holding, Fletcher?”
As a resident thief, he’s not about to answer that question. Doesn’t want to sound like a hypocrite, instead he just settles for a frown, and a— “The fuck is a Niall?”

mj waited a moment for brooke to say a ‘just kidding’ that never came. “nemo it is.”
“okay, how about…” brooke thought, realizing that she truly had nothing. “um, nemo?”

“Technically. But people win fish almost as rarely as bears.”
Kyung-Mi pointed at herself in response to MJ’s question. Then again, most of the people who came to the game booths were small children who were impulsive and had little common sense. “Good thing we have you to guard them then. I’m sure Niall is really appreciative to still be with -” she glanced at the other fish, “his bandmates. Though technically, we should be looking to get rid of Zayn soon, right?”

“sure,” mj said, eyes flitting over the bowls until she found the one she was looking for, pointing at it. “we got that guy last month, but i haven’t been able to think of anything.”
“that’s a relief. can i name one?”

“mmhmm,” mj nodded, flicking zayn’s bowl. “the only one anyone’s won is liam, but he was my least favorite, so it’s fine.”
“oh yeah, zayn,” brooke chuckled. “hey, we all have our stuff. is one of these guys zayn?” brooke nodded to the fish. “or did someone win it and take it away from the other guys?”

“Yes, they actually did. Who wouldn’t? Fish are the 2nd best prize we have.”
“Did someone actually try to sneak off with him in a soda cup?” Kyung-Mi asked between bits of laughter, finding the entire situation hilarious. “Who would even want to steal a fish?” Working at this booth was always her least favorite, as she couldn’t stand all the splashing and the squeals, not to mention actually putting the fish in a bag for the customers - ew.

“They’ve all been here like, five years, except for Liam. Someone actually won him. Not that anyone cares about Liam, anyway,” MJ explained, getting behind the counter and picking up the microphone. “Step right up.”
Cecily gritted her teeth, glancing away for a split second. Certainly the other couldn’t have known the implications of her statement, so she took in a small breath before offering the other a smile. “Didn’t realize you all were so close,” She chuckled, peering down at the fish for a few moments. “Think I can take a chance at winning one real quick?”

“Zayn,” MJ answered, maybe a little too quickly. “I had a phase, OK?”
“oh. well, he’s not that cute. i mean, he’s not bad, but he’s no…the one that left. i really need to brush up on my pop culture. wait, did you name the fish after him?”

“Zayn the fish does,” MJ informed her, tapping on the glass of the respective fish. “I don’t know, Cecily, how do you keep track of your family’s names? You just do.”
“Kids these days,” She shrugged, not quite grasping the situation. “If anyone, I’d steal Zayn– does he still count?” She wondered aloud, before her eyes traveled to the fish. “Wait– is Niall the fish’s name? How do you even keep track?”

“Someone tried to steal Niall -- again,” MJ said, pouring a goldfish out of a soda-turned-water cup and into its bowl. “What’s so hard to understand about no free stuff?”
