New Year, New Opportunities
Whether you are thinking about finding a new job or contemplating a career shift to another field, the start of a new year is actually a good time to embark upon your search. Changing career path can help you grow not only professionally but also personally. When it comes to finding the right job opportunity, timing isn’t everything, but it certainly helps to have on your side.
But, why now?
As the job market winds down towards the end of the year, people tend to leave their current positions to look for better opportunity which in turn creates turnover and an enormous number of openings. Once the impact of these resignations is felt, many companies will be exploring for new talent to fill these vacant slots and it is expected to create a very robust job market in a wide range of industries. Ultimately, it’s the candidate’s game to win during a strong hiring period. When demand for talent outweighs the supply of candidates, job seekers have a better chance to grow their status with more responsibility and/or higher pay.
However, making a big career change isn’t entirely straightforward. You should start by thinking about your interests, what you’re really good at and what really motivates you. There are, in fact, several other things you can do to advance your career. First of all, where do you want to end up? Develop a plan to determine how you’ll get to the desired place you want to be. Taking the time to look at your own expectations for a new career and to outline a plan for yourself could pay off in the long run. “To choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life – Confucius”.
Next, expanding your network is crucial to connect with the right group of people. You learn about the skills they value, the corporate culture, and where you could potentially fit. Old fashioned as it may sound networking is still best done face to face. If you send out dozens of CVs or apply for hundreds of jobs online you’ll probably be rejected. But if people meet you face-to-face they’ll realize that you’re really enthusiastic about working in their industry and that you could be an asset. Spend some time to build relationships with a small number of professionals – speak to recruiters, your contacts and ask your friends if they know people in the industry you want to work in. Remember that your job goals are the foundation for your job-search strategy. Finally, if you’re hoping for career advancement, be sure to check out what positions MCSB has open here http://www.mcsb.com/join-our-team/ . A new year often means a new start. This may be the perfect time to amend your approach to obtain new career opportunities.
