SAHARA LINCOLN

Hazel hues examined the wound before her. A gash that created a wound deep enough to see the white  starting of the bone. Sahara’s brows knitted together as she slipped on a few gloves and softly moved her fingers around the area of the wound. “Hey…you there. Can you grab me the closest needle and thread? Also, can you bring a cloth for my patient to bite down on?” Her voice was soft, yet held a seriousness as the words rolled off of her tongue. Turning her attention to her patient she sighed pursing her lips slightly. “This is going to hurt.”

“Uh, yeah, right away,” he said a bit flabbergasted It wasn’t that he hadn’t seen anyone needing medical attention, but it always caught him off guard. He wasn’t used to such images. He, however, pushed through the slight shock and did as he was instructed to do. He grabbed a few supplies from the counter and brought them to her. He’d stopped by to see if he could get some first aid supplies before he, yet again, disappeared to try and rustle up some supplies from the surrounding area. He handed her patient a handkerchief from his zip lock bag of supplies. Despite the bag’s dirty exterior, the handkerchief was good as new. He made sure to carry it in case he needed a sterile cloth, or as sterile as it could be considering their situation.

“Hey Atty, can you bring me some goods? I have a nice pizza and a new episode of Ghost adventures with your name on it.” he typed into his phone. Of course, he was going to pay her for the goods, but because it was late he wanted to sweeten the deal to ensure she’d say yes. Atty had reminded Matt of his daughter, and despite their difference in age found her company enjoyable. His relationship with his own children was strained due to his personal choices, but Athena didn’t seem to judge him. He waited for her to respond as he put his feet on his coffee table. The pizza would be there in a few minutes, so even if she said no at the very least he would have dinner. His attention turned to the television. An old episode of Ghost Adventures was playing. He took a sip of his beer and said, “Awe Zak, I do not envy you. Should be a bit nicer to Aaron, but I’ll admit it’s entertaining.”

“What do you want?” she asked, dropping the gun to her side, but her finger still on the trigger just in case the stranger tries anything. Since the outbreak she’s been extremely cautious, you couldn’t trust people anymore. 

Matt swallowed hard nervously rubbing the back of his neck. “I wanted to know if heard about any...uh...places to raid...I’m looking for some stuff to bring back to the community,” he said. He honestly didn’t have anything specific to tell the stranger, but he tried his best to cover that fact up.

RIVKA SHAFIR

“Five miles back was a grocery store, but it was cleaned out,” Rivka told him, glancing back over her shoulder. He seemed like a good guy, but this was the apocalypse and no one was good anymore. Once people are put under pressure and are in a life or death situation, people change. There were no exceptions. “People don’t apologize these days.” Rivka lowered her weapon and smiled halfway. “Perhaps we can look together and then go our separate ways, assuming you won’t try to kill me afterwards and take my own supplies.”

Matt smiled back nodding at her words. It was true, most of the time he tried to stay away from people, he knew that anyone, regardless of how they looked, was a threat. They’d either try and kill him or get him killed. However, he also felt the need to remain human; to keep a positive outlook on things. Though at the moment, it was hard for him to do so. “I suppose you are right. I’ve never been one to go with the crowd, so I guess I’ll just have to be that stranger who apologizes,” he said. Matt didn’t want to be alone, when he was alone he couldn’t help but think about Melissa and how he’d failed her as a father. “I reckon that would be a fine arrangement,” he said holding out his hand. “I promise not to try and kill you if you don’t try and kill me. Deal?”

“What do you want?” she asked, dropping the gun to her side, but her finger still on the trigger just in case the stranger tries anything. Since the outbreak she’s been extremely cautious, you couldn’t trust people anymore. 

“Something to help keepin’ on I guess,” he replied. “Not that I’m looking to steal anything...You just reminded me of someone.” He cleared his throat feeling as if he was just making the situation a little awkward. “I’m Matt,” he said. He wasn’t sure if folks still introduced themselves to people, but old habits were hard to break.

RIVKA SHAFIR

“If there is food that you want, I don’t have any for you,” Rivka said, ready to shoot the person in front of her. It was a half lie. She didn’t have anything substantial. Only some crackers and peanut butter. It was enough to hold her over if she was ever without food so she wouldn’t starve to death. On her list of things to do, raiding a grocery store was one of them. “I am out of water as well, but this gun is fully loaded, so I suggest you leave me alone.”

Matt wasn’t sure if he trusted the woman’s word but was friendly none the less. He looked around. “Well, I don’t aim to steal or take your food. Just lookin’ to see if I can find anything for my group.” He said with a smile. Matt tried to hide behind a smile. That’s all he could do considering the amount of pain he was in. “Sorry if I disturbed your area,” Matthew continued. “I promise it won’t happen again.”

LORI L’ADANOVIC

Lori was looking for something- she wasn’t quite sure what but she hoped she’ll see something useful for the group. She wandered around the woods for a while, seeing nothing but leaves. In the middle of her search she heard a noise behind her and when she saw no one she took out her gun, pointing it to the direction of the noise. “Show yourself.” She commanded, her eyes alert.

Matthew had left once he got word that his daughter didn’t make it. He had just found her, and like that, she was taken from him. Doing what he does best, he ran from his emotions. He’d told Ethan and Sam that he’d be scavenging for a while; which was a lie. He just wanted to get out. He had caught a glimpse of a woman, someone who he thought was his daughter. He was about to call out to Melissa when he realized that it wasn’t her. He was about to turn around, but he had been heard. “Oh, pardon me,” he said making himself visible. “I didn’t mean to frighten you,” he said in a soft voice
