My First Digital Art...

Hi :)

It's been over 1 year since I decided to post my artwork here and so far I haven't had the courage to make the first post. Even though Tumblr is no longer in its glory days, I still want to make this digital diary here, as this is where I took my inspirations to be able to practice and perfect this hobby that I love and frees me so much.

After all this time I started thinking about what would be my first post and nothing fairer than being my first digital art (even though it's so small) because her creation story marked me in a special way.

Since I was a child I love to draw, paint, embroider and do anything related to art, I never took it all that seriously but it was always a relief to be able to express myself in these ways. When I was 12 years old I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in computing, at that time I had no idea what I was getting into, I just knew that I always liked games and wanted to work somehow with them and in the area. I could work with anything and settle down financially while looking for a way to fulfill the desire to work with games.

When I finished high school, I entered university and started studying Computer Science where I made the most unimaginable and eclectic group of friends. Among them there was one who had a dream to make his stories into games and it reminded me of that girl from years ago who had a similar desire.

One day this friend started studying and developing a 2D platform adventure game on his own and started learning pixel art. I had never done pixel art for real, but I had already studied a few things about it and I already had a little more advanced knowledge about drawing and painting fundamentals, so I helped him answering his questions and giving tips on how to improve his drawings.

After a few months of work and shortly after I decided to buy a pen tablet, he asked me to make an element of senario for the game.

He gave me this backdrop and asked me to create a beautiful two-story red plain 2D house with a small balcony. At the time I remember thinking I didn't want to do that because I wanted to study other types of art and pixel art was just too easy for me and wouldn't take me out of my comfort zone.

Well, I was completely wrong.

It was a lot more work than I thought.

Getting each pixel into place seemed to take forever and even using all the fill tools and the like. But at the same time, it was therapeutic to see the layers of the house coming out and every detail fitting perfectly where I wanted to put it.

And that was the process:

In the beginning, I came with the foundation...

Then I created a frame for the roof by adding a chimney that matched the foundation, positioned the balcony and windows, and thought of a design for the front door.

By this time I had got the hang of it and was doing it naturally and so I added the walls, window frames, flowers stands, and the balcony fence (I don't know if that's the right name).

After the last record I got so excited that I started working without realizing what I was doing and when I realized I had detailed every piece of that house. I had already placed flowers, vines, lights, shadows, everything was exactly as I had imagined and I could not be more satisfied.

After showing what I had done, my friend asked me to include a tree (which believe it or not was harder to make than the whole house) and a doghouse to make more sense in the story as it was the main character's house.

After thinking a little more about it, we decided that this composition of the elements would be better.

Well, even though the house (and the doghouse) didn't follow the style of 2 and 1/2 D of the scenario, I really liked the final result, and the whole process gave me the gas I needed for my real first digital art that was standing there waiting for me to be finished, but that's a story for another day.

In the end, my friend didn't finish the game. A lot happens and he didn't have the time to dedicate himself to the project. But he still studying all the processes of Game Design and who knows one day he will come back and finish this story?

Well, until then, I will improve my art skills and maybe he can give me a call and ask for loading screens or scenarios, I will be cheerful to participate.
