I'm teaching English in Spain for the 2013-2014 school year, laughing, traveling, and figuring out what to do next.

Meagan en Madrid turned 1 today!  I normally don't post the silly things that tumblr emails me (first 25, 50, 100, 200 posts), but this seemed appropriate to post since I'm not in Madrid at the moment, but in the USA.  I kept it a secret from the internet in order to surprise one of my friends.  I'm job searching here, but I'm considering going back to Madrid for another year if nothing comes up.  There are still quite a few photos I never posted from Spain, so I'll see if I can get to those eventually.  I won't be posting job search updates here, so if you want them, just ask me directly.  In the meantime, happy summer!

Meagan! You are...how do I say this in your language? A Spice Girl.
My lifeguard neighbor from Argentina.  I laughed really hard at this one.  Since I had no idea what he meant, I made him try to explain.  He says it means I have secret attitude.  Spice Girls have secret attitude?  Whatever, I'm taking it as a compliment.

Homeboy can claim to love my country more than I do (and it could be true), but when I saw my flag in a bar during San Fermín, I was SO PUMPED.  I wrapped myself in it/tried to wear it.  But they were all like "No, let's take a photo."  So now I have photo evidence that I was with my flag in Spain (which is not a common occurrence).  There are lots of Spanish things that I like more than American things (and therefore wouldn't care as much if I unexpectedly ran into the American version), but I think the American flag is prettier than the Spanish flag.  Plus I had recently missed out on being in the USA for its Independence Day and so I got a bit nostalgic.  I had a similar reaction last week when my friend said she had a quarter in her wallet.  I didn't try to wear it, but I asked to hold it.  She let me, and I was happy.
Anyway, ends up these guys got the flag from a bar owner in Madrid who gave it to them after the US was eliminated from the world cup.  They're firefighters from LA who ran with the bulls.  When I asked if it was scary they were all like "YEAH."  Other people I asked said the same.  Funny how when you feel like your life was in danger you don't even pretend you weren't scared.

My students are very good learning and I teach a lot with they but I don't like when they use Spanglish.  Redacciones are writings.  They don't like when I have them write.  Although here are two letters they wrote me after they didn't do the homework I said they could do if they wanted to (which was to write letters).  Hence the numbers in letter #1; she was counting how many words she had so far.  I'm pretty sure we had agreed upon 250 words but the letter was so nice I didn't care.  I didn't even correct it.  Also the homework wasn't mandatory so I was just happy they wrote something in English in their free time.
Tomorrow is our last class and luckily for them, they aren't going to have to do redactions.  We're going to make banana bread :)
