I sometimes get asked what will be my next major audio drama project after executive producing and creating The Strange Case of Starship Iris and Keep It Steady. Well, now that Iris is very safely in the post-production phase, I can reveal the next show I hope to create: Everyone Leaves Alive, a rock musical about a world in which playing music can be magical. Like, literally.
Everyone Leaves Alive follows a struggling indie rock band as they tour the American midwest together, secretly resolving monster-related problems through music. It's funny, it's heartfelt, it's very queer, and Chiron Star (who did the instrumentation and music production for the Starship Iris theme and Keep it Steady) is onboard, so I can safely say it's gonna rock.
However, I'm committed to paying people a reasonable wage, and that means I need your help to fund this baby. Check out the video (above) to learn a little more about the show and hear a demo of the first song of the pilot. (I can sometimes be self-deprecating, so let me be clear: the demo rules.) Check out the Kickstarter link (below) to see the rewards, and help back the project. There are some fun perks, including a one-page TTRPG set in the world, and a special EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT tier that is only available for a very limited time.
If the project sounds fun to you and you want it to exist, here are some ways you can help:

Merch store moving to Dashery!
hey folks, just a quick heads' up to say that Procyon's merch store has moved, to procyonpodcastnetwork.dashery.com. the shopping experience (and products) should be the same, but the shows you support through merch sales will get a larger share of the profits than we did before.
and as we approach the ides of march and the weather in the northern hemisphere starts to show some sign of sun, this feels like a great time to invest in a Hot Frog Summer tank top. just sayin'.

Having podcasts be your main source of entertainment is crazy. What do you mean I'm crying about the blorbos in my headphones and there's like 12 other people who even know who they are.

16 is @meandaupod!
Romcom. Kate and Ella are huge fans of the TV show Selkirk, and when they first meet online, the show’s fandom is very small. They bond over the fanfic they write and send each other, theories about the show, and live reactions to episodes.
Completed series of one season. 16 episodes (including one mini episode).

@greaterblogston's first episode is pretty much just three great monologues back-to-back. I feel like Nica's would be particularly fun.
(Transcript is in the second little tab thing next to show notes.)
hey you there - got any favourite monologues from audio dramas?

I promised some folks in the tags that if we hit 40% on the kickstarter I'd post the silliest spoiler I could think of from a No Normal Life ep. So

Sometimes fighting evil means that, actually, you would rather explain lesbianism to a preteen than confirm that monsters are real.

🚨🚨 NEW SHOW ALERT! 🚨🚨
Phoebe and I have packed so many stupid gay shenannagins into this show and I'm really excited to get to share our first ep soon. It's got everything: mixtapes, corn-based conspiracy theories, a literal demon, coming out by namechecking famous hot women of the 90s.
If you liked Me and AU, give us a follow so you don't miss our episode drop!
Ever wanted to know what would happen if Supernatural starred a Jackie from Yellowjackets type and a hot butch whose name she only learned while getting patched up in a Circle K parking lot?
May we introduce you to...
Tumblr media
Hey, we're Andrea (from @meandaupod) and Phoebe (of @underpressurepodcast), and we're working with the folks @thecritshow to bring you the early '90s lesbian Monster of the Week-flavored audio drama road trip you've been waiting for.
It’s 1991 and Anastacia has a mission from the gods: protect Lana King, The Chosen One, as she crisscrosses the country fighting the forces of evil. But Lana’s not so sure she’s the one who needs protecting. And the enormous crush Anastacia’s developing isn’t helping matters either.  If these two would-be monster hunters want to save the world they’re going to have to get their shit together. Or the results could be deadly…
If you love actual play podcasts featuring non-D&D systems, you might recognize Anastacia and Lana from @thecritshow, where they are beloved NPCs, best known for doing things like... uh. Shooting one of our heroes in the chest. But for mentorship reasons, we swear!
In No Normal life we're charting their early days, and their budding romance, in 10 brand-new, full-cast episodes.
Our demo episode, "Cast Out Evil" drops September 2024. To be the first to hear it, head over to Kickstarter and give us a follow. We'll be sharing it there first!

[This is a repost from here because I accidentally buried it underneath the fairly lengthy original post. It’s was in response to a post about sapphic characters/couples in podcasts. What I wrote was meaningful to me and it might be to someone else. Happy Pride, everyone!]
In honour of my pre-teen self, who grew up under Section 28, I would like to mention Joan and Cecily from The Two Princes. It was the first audio fiction podcast I listened to. Although Joan and Cecily’s story isn’t technically at the centre of the podcast, I’d argue that the princes wouldn’t have a hope in hell without them. I am, after all, a life-long fan of non-main-characters.*
One evening, when I was in late primary school, my mum and I went to the library. The same one where I’d later have my first job. We’d gone because my mum needed to look something up (these were the pre-internet days, folks). She was busy with the librarian, while I sat at one of the big desks in the reference room. And that was when I found it.
Strange to see a novel in that part of the library. Balanced on top of some maps or encyclopaedias. Almost as if someone had left it there on purpose.
Tamora Pierce’s Alanna: The First Adventure. A girl who poses as a boy to train to be a knight. My entire heart!
The only other Alanna I’d ever heard of was a girl who attended ballet classes at the same dance studio as me. She was a year or two older and she could do the splits. Funny the things you remember.
During Section 28, queer books were scarce – especially in public libraries. I found one anyway.
Seeing queer YA books openly being published today is wonderful, and it makes me feel a bit wistful too. What might it have been like if I’d realised I was bisexual at 9, rather than 29? What if chronic illness hadn’t got in the way?
Let’s just say that when I listened to The Two Princes for the first time in my early thirties, Joan and Cecily were making up for a lot of lost time. Also they are two of my favourite character types: girl/woman knight + exuberant bisexual.
All this to say: podcast makers, please keep creating the romances you need to hear. Because I need to hear them too! <3
* This applies to all forms of media. You’ve got to find your people where you can find them, if you know what I mean. There are of course exceptions to this, like Kate and Ella from Me & AU. I *do* recognise when the protagonists are brilliant and give me all the feels. But WHITNEY?! That penultimate episode destroys me every single time.

Happy @podcastgirlsweek to all who celebrate! While I haven't had the time to properly work on fics (and probably won't this week because oops, hurt my hands yesterday) I still wanted to take the time to highlight some favorite podcast girlies along with everyone else!
The prompt for Monday is highlighting podcasts with women in the leading roles, so here's a few of mine (and hopefully, some new ones of yours if you don't know them yet):
Back Again, Back Again: Ilyaas, you absolutely fantastic disaster of a fantasy ace, never stop trying.
Breathing Space: While the show is anthology with a rotating cast, some of my favorites from across its run include:
Evie Yuriskin
Amity Archer
Any characters who were introduced one episode and then started referring to each other as "my wife" by the end or by their next appearance
Camlann: Some apocalypse survivors interpret dangerous dreams about dark magic to cope. Some knit sweaters. Both are valid and should kiss.
City of Ghosts: Featuring the grungy, disgruntled, tormented-by-visions LADY detective of your dreams.
Desperado: Take note - give your ladies knives. And god powers. And witchcraft. And a sniper rifle, for good measure.
Do You Copy?: I think [REDACTED] deserves three weeks of paid vacation
Fawx & Stallion: Madge Stallion is THE moment. She's six feet tall. She can't stop making innuendos. She's not your fucking Mrs. Hudson (although, she is - no, I shan't say).
Hi Nay: Mari & Laura are my everything - the loving and self-sacrificing hero and the newfound friend who chooses to stand by her side (fire axe and all).
Inn Between: Oh, my Inn Between girlies, where do I start? Fina and Betty, the OGs and life partners that even death couldn't stall? Rosie and Zara, the new best pals who chose to stay together? Phoebe, just one step at a time learning what she deserves and what she doesn't? All impeccable, A+.
It Makes A Sound: Any show focused on music is going to be a slam dunk for me, but Deirdre's quest to reclaim her memories as well as those that tied her to her mother is so damn real and compelling.
The Kingmaker Histories: No female character in this show has ever done anything wrong. Colette gets a migraine pass. Ariadne can turn people inside out. Daphne is owed this for working in a theme park.
Life With LEO(h): Janiiiiiine, so messy and smart and dedicated and she cares so much, I love yoooooou.
Me and AU: Kate's worries and desires and doubts are some of the realest out of any audio drama so when do I find an Ella too
Palimpsest: My faaaaavorite gothic horror anthology, each one fresh with a different brand of haunted, tormented, secret-keeping (and quite frequently gay) gothic protagonist
The Pasithea Powder: Jane and Sophie. Sophie and Jane. What more could you need? <3
The Silt Verses: Women who start cults/leave cults/seek an end to the endless cycle of meaningless sacrifice as so valid. For all your wet cat(fish) woman needs.
Second Star to the Left: Because I always love a good Ishani performance. Hi Gwen, please tell Boots I love them.
Small Victories: You want sad wet cat women? How about one that literally can't stop self-sabotaging (but at least manages to draw the line at sabotaging others...occasionally). She even gets stabbed!
Starfall: I mean, kind of a given, but anyway, Leona definitely exists because she's the kind of action protagonist woman I always wanted - one that could be unapologetically powerful, but still full of flaws and desires (especially ones that weren't about falling in love and minimizing her own strengths). She's even autistic!
Stories From Ylelmore: Keryth! Keryth, Keryth, Keryth! She reminds me so much of the kinds of characters I would make up when I was younger - I love her and her small magic so dearly.
The Strange Case of Starship Iris: Hi queer space pirates <3
Unseen: Another anthology show, but Harry Winters and Never-Ending Circles remains one of the most perfect premiere episodes I've ever heard in audio drama.
The Way We Haunt Now: Get your podcast ladies here, dead or alive!
We Fix Space Junk: My favorite type of repairman is a woman who could kick my ass.
Wolf 359: I don't think I need say much more here - y'all know and love 'em just as much as I do.

Next week!
Tumblr media
We've got one week to go, and I'm so excited! Podcast Girls Week is a week long prompt-based event where fans are encouraged to create works celebrating their favorite podcast women. The event will take place on July 8-14.
Ready to post? We'll be using the #podcastgirlsweek tag here on tumblr, and you can already start adding works to the currently unrevealed 2024 Podcast Girls Week collection  on Ao3.
Monday: What about sad wet cat women? Highlight a podcast starring women in the leading role(s).
Tuesday: This too is yuri... Spotlight a F/F ship (or platonic or familial relationship between women if that’s your preference).
Wednesday: WIP Wednesday! We all have art/fic/meta we’ve been meaning to get to. This is your day to finally commit (as long as your WIP is about podcast women, of course.)
Thursday: Nobody understands her like I do… Recognize a woman from a podcast you think is niche and/or underappreciated.
Friday: God forbid women do anything. Celebrate a female villain. Defend your #problematic fave.
Saturday: Self-indulgence Saturday! Make something you’ve really wanted to make but haven’t because you thought it was too self-indulgent, niche, or silly.
Sunday: Free space!
Have questions? Check out the FAQ. Join the Discord while you wait!
Finally, you are always welcome to tag or @ this blog if you’re posting content about podcast ladies, and I will happily reblog it!
