London calling DAY 14-17
This is where I bid goodbye to most of my family. Walt had already left for London on Day 12, Roo flew home on Day 13 and Evi and I took off for London, Angelo went back to Brig and everyone else went on from there. We caught up with Walter to see Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club - fantastic, if only I could stay awake. He then started his Contiki the next day. Evi and I wandered around from Monday to Thursday, Evi left early and I flew home that night. We did not go near a single monument or see a river, London back streets, shops and bars 😜 and lots of tube rides.

BRIG to MILANO day 12-14
Again the ease of train travel, walk 300metres to the station in Brig then off to Italy in a couple of hours. Once in Milano bought our day ticket for any transport and off we went to our hostel. Left our bags then off to find Italian grub. As every place we went it could be hit and miss. Milan on the weekend was a little busier than we had been experiencing in other cities as only Italy can be. Did the tourist spots and split for dinner we a few trying to get tickets for a soccer game with no luck…a sports bar instead.

Day 10 -12 Brig
Trained between cities, I freaked Reuben out by buying tickets for the wrong day (for he and I)and only realising 30 minutes before the train was leaving - only a $200 mistake 🙄 we made it. Very pretty train trip through the Rhone valley following the river and the lake/s (forgive any geographical errors please) up to Brig. Chocolate box scenery all the way. Arrived in Brig and met at the station by Evi.
More photos walking around the town and dinner of Raclette - cheese, cheese and potatoes - very tasty.

Day 6-9 Lyon-France
Lyon was a city of many layers, old and new, good food, ordinary food, great transport, free zoos and a wonderful old section that we toured with Christian. We again stayed in a hostel, Nic and Lara joined the group again, we went to the movies, visited Lumière Museum, contemporary museum (spectacular building on the river) sat by the river Rhone and Saone and drank wine (prerequisite in France) and walked and walked

DAY 5 Barcelona
Started the sunny day with a walking tour of the gothic quarter and neighbouring suburbs and an afternoon look at inside the Sagrada Familia with the boys. After the lads have done a little laundry at their hostel - separate accommodation for the past three days…I needed an apartment with a laundry - we are off for Churros and Cava locally.

DAY 4
And then the rain came down. First stop was the Mercado de la Boqueria markets, up there with Adelaide but smaller. Full of delicious produce, which of course we bought, sampled etc.
Next of to the modern contemporary art gallery. Dinner, shopping and more

Day 3 Dublin to Barcelona
was an early start, up at 4 to get our plane to Barcelona and a little later for Nic and Lara for Iceland (delayed a few times arriving late afternoon).
Pleasant to leave cold behind, even though it was only for 12 hours…balmy 18-20degrees.
Took the opportunity to walk around the outside of Sagrada Família, take photos, then focus on the real reason we were in Spain - Olives and Cava ✔️we then wandered around the lively streets for a few more hours, bought bakery items and stopped off for more beverages inc. real hot chocolate 😵‍💫🎶

Dublin Day 2
this was a day dedicated to Irelands biggest export (outside its population) alcohol- the Guinness factory and Jameson Irish Whisky and again a fair bit of walking in the icy, chilled wind. Ireland was never on the food experience list 🙄 and it lived up to that. Overall an enjoyable friendly city. Pretty easy to get around and not huge (approx 800000 population).

16-1-2024
We all made it to Dublin over a 30 hour period.
Our first full day was planned by Jacob and Walter starting with breakfast at a little cafe onto no.1 tour in Dublin that gave Dublin’s history (in 30 mins) from around 9th century and Vikings (busy marauder’s) on the edge of St Stephen’s Green Park where the ducks walk on water. Next, stopped to buy me a coat that works for ‘real’ cold weather as opposed to the pretend cold we call Adelaide winters. Then to a pub to sample their Guinness, again. Then to Trinity College, a beautiful collection of buildings and architectural periods, lovely example of brutalist period of 50 years ago that sits right next to the original older buildings of 1700. Then off to wander a little more, eat again, wander some more then back for the jet lagged among us before an evening of dinner, some gave up and the rest to another pub to sample more Guinness and find some live music the Irish are famous for before calling it a night.
